Local Gas Crisis

I’ve had a great Saturday so far! After finishing my organic distillation prelab, I braved the yard and wheeled out the mower. The front yard went really well, but during my first path through the back yard the mower came to a halt. But thanks to Karl’s insightfulness in one of my favorite movies, Slingblade, I knew what to do:

I realized I was out of gas. Then the dilemma turned to figuring out where we keep the gas and how to put it in. But thankfully my brain was tuned up from Organic chem and I figured it out. I was kind of scared I would start a fire, but thankfully there were no flames.

After the lawn was mowed (took me just over an hour) I decided to continue working and clean the house. But first I jogged (about a mile) to Harris Teeter to get some cleaning supplies: OrangeGlo for the floors, Pledge for the furniture and some Mrs. Meyers concentrated lemon verbana cleaner. I’ve never used Pledge before, but wow does this stuff work well! The wood stuff definitely looks better, but the real golden shiner is our stainless steel stuff: trash can, toaster, coffee maker – they are all SO shiny!! After Pledging, I cleaned the floors. The Mrs. Meyers is awesome too. I HATE buying new countertop spray and wasting plastic each time, but I haven’t found a brand that has a refill and prefer to use a real cleaner instead of just vinegar and water. I’ve been using 7th Generation Kitchen Cleaner but when I saw this Mrs. Meyers and smelled it, I decided this was perfect. The solution is concentrated so you only have to use 2 tbsp per 32 oz spray bottle. This should last me a looong time. By the time I finished cleaning the kitchen I’d be working for almost 3 hours and decided it was time for a shower and lunch!

My Kinda Lunch

DSC04704

While at HT I picked up some kale, as I was having a craving for kale chips.

DSC04698

Plus a snack platter of a leftover pear, leftover banana half (with PB), HUGE grapes that we found at EarthFare, carrot (with PB!), and crackers.

DSC04703

And a peach Chobani. I hadn’t had the peach flavor before and it is my new favorite (besides plain). Just like oatmeal, the strawberries and blueberries seem to slightly water down the thick greek yogurt. But not the peaches! Topped with a little GoLean Crunch.

Delish!

Kath Eats Gadget

Those of you who use iGoogle as your homepage, I figured out how to get a Kath Eats RSS gadget! All you have to do is paste this link into your browser and it should add the gadget to your iGoogle page. Let me know if it works.

Jupiter

While I was working this morning listening to classical music this song came on:

Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity, The Planets Suite by Gustav Holst

If immediately recognized it and went to my station to find out the title. But after some Wikipedia etc. searching I can’t figure out what movie/event I know it from. Go to the 3:00 mark of the song and see if you recognize it too. I feel like it’s some movie I’ve seen recently? I LOVE the tune!

Karen just called and she’s bringing over some leftover wine from last night 😳 The husband is bringing home something to cook for dinner from EarthFare, so I better get cracking so I can enjoy the evening. Oh, and I rented Definitely , Maybe from the RedBox at HT, so that should be fun too!

Hooray for a clean house and yard!

It sounds like the song from Shrek or maybe just the music from the Dreamworks opening. Not sure, but my daughter immediately asked why I was watching Shrek on my pc when she overheard it.

I dropped my $12.00 almond butter jar on my tiled kitchen floor today. It hurt! :{ Glass went everwhere and I salvaged a little bit from the inside of the jar before tossing it. Just thought you of all people would feel my pain.

definitely maybe was a good flick! Even my husband liked it 🙂 Your lunch looks good, much better than my mojo bar i sneaked in, in between all my cleaning…
Yadi- i feel ya. The first time i bought AB ( i spent a ton) it fell out of the fridge after i had used maybe 2 spoonfulls, i cut my foot and the glass shattered so bad i couldn’t save any 🙁 It wouldn’t hurt so bad if that stuff wasn’t so darn expensive.

As for the song, it sounded familiar to me too so I googled it. Wikipedia lists it and all of the movies, tv, and commercials it has been used in. Maybe one looks familiar?

Also, I’ve noticed you keep referring to someone as “Karen”…who is she? Sibling? Friend? Just curious (and procrastinating with the studying, currently. I’m so jealous it soudns like you are done for the day!!).

Oh my gosh, I LOVE Holst’s Planets Suite!! So good!! You should check out works of Ralph Vaughn Williams — he and Holst attended school together and became good friends.

This goes back a ways, but if you’ve seen the film adaptation of The Right Stuff, they used part of the Planets Suite in the soundtrack.

Hey – Arm & Hammer has refill cleaning supplies now – I haven’t tried them yet, but they look cool. You buy the big plastic spray bottle once and it comes with a little vial of concentrate, then you fill the thing with water. When you run out you can just buy the small vials. And they are plant-based cleaners. I am definitely going to keep an eye out for them, and it sounds like what you are looking for!

    Re. Jupiter,
You guys are right that it’s VERY similar to Shrek, but it’s not quite the same. The husband pointed out it’s also very similar to Braveheart, but also, not quite the same. This is going to drive me nuts!!! I want to say it’s from Atonement, but know that has it’s own theme. The tune reminds me of a coronation or some big happy time in the character’s life.

    JE ,
    Welcome back!!

    Michelle ,
Welcome to KERF!! I’m not sure what area of dietetics specifically, but I really want to go into private practice. I’m not a blood person, so I don’t think I will be doing clinical.

    Karen is my mother-in-law!

    Kelly ,
I’m pretty sure it’s from Crate & Barrel.

    melissa ,
I LOVE the Basil but they don’t make that in the concentrated from what I’ve seen in the stores…

Kath – I’m not sure if this is what you’re thinking of, but the part of the song at 3 minutes is the tune to “I Vow to Thee, My Country”. If you’ve seen any British movies set in 1921 or after, that may be where you’ve heard it.

    Chris ,
THAT IS IT!!!!!!!!! I knew it had to do with a coronation or royalty, and I’m pretty sure my memory stems from the movie The Queen, which I watched earlier this year. Apparently Diana had it at both her wedding and her funeral and I think they played it in the movie during the funeral scenes? THANK YOU!!!

From a long-time reader, but lurker (my first time commenting) who loves your blog, I just wanted to pass along the Wikipedia link to the adaptations of the Planets in modern media. Hopefully you’ll be able to figure out where you know it from so it will stop driving you crazy. 🙂 I’m a classically trained violinist and Jupiter, in addition to the sources listed on the Wikipedia article, is just a really popular theme in smaller jingles and stuff. Apparently it was used for a Reeses commercial in 2007 and in quite a few films and TV shows. Hope this helps!

Like Lisa, I’m a long-time reader, but first time commenter. I actually joined Calorie King not long ago based solely on your experience and success with it. You’ve really inspired me to be a healthier me!

As for Jupiter, check out Holst’s page at IMDB: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0392304/

The song actually wasn’t in The Queen, but it was in a few relatively recent movies — maybe one of those will be the one!

    Courtney,
I think I figured out how I know it is through the song I Vow to Thee My Country which is almost identical to Jupiter. I’m pretty sure IVTTMC was in The Queen related to either Diana’s wedding, funeral or both. I feel like they did a montage of her death and played it. Apparently she loved the song.

Thanks for that cool link though!

Kath – I know you have figured it out but just wanted to confirm – that is 100% I vow to thee my country – my ultimate favourite hymn (Jerusalem being my 2nd!) – a total classic…. I know all the words! But then we do sing it a LOT in the UK!

That part of Jupiter, while bringing back horrid memories of high school band and the green polyester uniforms that went with it, always seems to remind me a bit of Braveheart.
