Little Italy, Big Dogs

Good evening my blog friends!! So happy to be “home” 🙂

We had a fabulous afternoon spent at the mall. Gram took a rest while mom, Larbs and I went mall walking (and just a little spending!) Larbs got her jeans hemmed –

IMG_0284 (480x640)

And I got sunglasses at XX21!!

We came home and got a 20 minute rest before we got dressed for dinner. Aunt Mary Ellen and Uncle Chris took us to Baltimore’s Little Italy to Gia’s Cafe. I found out at dinner that they actually knew Julia Child and dined with her on several occasions! How cool 🙂

Here’s Larbs and me with our cousin Mary Jane a.k.a. Spud

 this !

IMG_0286 (480x640)

Does this look familiar!?! I think this bench is the same pattern as my patio table!!!

IMG_0285 (640x480)

We had a couple of bottles of wine for dinner enjoyment!

IMG_0288 (640x480)

The Molly Dooker was fab. u. lous. A blend from Australia

IMG_0290 (480x640)

Gia’s was cozy and authentic

IMG_0289 (480x640)

IMG_0291 (640x480)

We ordered calamari, which was super fresh, and bruschetta for the table.

IMG_0292 (640x480)

IMG_0293 (640x480)

My tastes

IMG_0294 (640x480)

Spud also shared her grilled Caesar salad 🙂

IMG_0295 (640x480)

For dinner I ordered the Penne Rapini with wild broccoli, garlic, olive oil and sausage. Yum!\

IMG_0298 (640x480)

IMG_0300 (480x640)

Larbs got the Seafood Ravioli, which she shared with me. Fabulous!

IMG_0297 (640x480)

Wine flowed. Don’t give me an open bottle to pour!

IMG_0301 (480x640) IMG_0302 (480x640)

Desserts also flowed, and we shared them at the table of 8. I had a bite or two of each. Tiramisu, which was dense and delish, a Canoli, which I loved, and a Lemon Ricotta Cake

IMG_0303 (640x480)

IMG_0305 (640x480)

IMG_0304 (640x480)

After dinner we stopped into our aunt and uncle’s to visit their mastiffs Winston and Isabelle. Winston is 210 pounds – he was adorable!!

IMG_0307 (480x640)

Isabel is bit timid, but such a sweetheart

IMG_0310 (480x640) IMG_0308 (480x640)

We’re hanging out with Gram and Pop now! I can’t guarantee a chocolate didn’t pass my lips. I also need to chug some water and get to bed early!

FYI, Mimsey got her feelings hurt after so many of you said she was creepy 🙁 She might never recover!

G’night!

Hi, I am a long time reader from Australia and I must say I love your blog, the way you present your food and the way you live life to the fullest!

I also wanted to say that we live only about an hours drive away from the d’Arenberg winery -in beautiful McLaren Vale.
We are actually heading to McLaren Vale next weekend for a winery tour with friends, and now that I have googled Molly Dooker and found they are in the same area – well we will have to go and have a try!
I will pass it on to them that you loved the wine!
Cant wait to try it myself.

I am so glad I looked at your blog. My husband I are stationed in Germany but I have a conference to attend back in the states. I plan to swing through my hometown of Columbia, MD. I am definitely going to go to Gia Cafe in Little Italy while I am there. Everything looks so good! Also your website rocks. I am so tired of heavy German food-snitzel and beer. Your meals are so wonderful. I made the banana ice cream last night. It was wonderful. I have about 20lbs to lose and your story is an inspiration. Eating healthy doesn’t have to be hard. I plan to pick up some barney butter when I get home.

I always love how you can go out to eat, sample a bit of everything, and just feel good about it. It is SO easy for me to just go all out-nuts, then figure i blew it and clean out the fridge when i get home (“might as well”).

Your restaurant habits (and Tina’s, and Caitlin’s, etc) have really helped give me perspective — doesn’t have to be all or nothing.
