Liquid Therapy

I had a really rough day today – for personal reasons

this !

But my husband fixed that right up with some liquid therapy!

An email I received earlier today:

Spontaneous Date

I saw that you went running this morning so your afternoon is free…

And I also have a source saying that Pisgah Brewing’s dopplebock is on tap at Duckworth’s, and tonight is $2 pint night!

Therefore I propose I buy you a beer at 4:45 this evening.  What say you!?

I say YES!!!

IMG_5209 (640x427)

Matt took me out for a beer! A delicious Pisgah Organic beer! We just visited the brewery for our anniversary and LOVED their beers.

IMG_5210 (640x427)

We went to Duckworth’s, which Matt describes as “the best beer in Charlotte but the worst food.” It’s a Cheesesteakery – with unique craft beers!

IMG_5202 (640x427)

IMG_5203 (640x427) IMG_5201 (640x427) IMG_5200 (640x427) IMG_5212 (640x427)

I actually liked the Founders Curmudgeon Old Ale even more! It was almost a barley wine (which probably means high alcohol = not good for this lightweight!] and was SO thick and sweet and malty. Just how I like them!

IMG_5207 (640x427)

Why is it that I like the high alcohol beers the most!?!

IMG_5213 (640x427)

We debated dinner….

  • Flying Biscuit
  • Sushi
  • Pizza @ Duckworth’s
  • Jason’s Deli
  • Good Food On Montford
  • EarthFare salad bar

and decided on…

The Flying Biscuit!! A surprisingly healthy, local Southeat Southeast chain of a breakfast place that also has a really great [healthy] casual dinner menu.

IMG_5220 (640x427)

Next door = my name!!

IMG_5217 (640x427)

IMG_5218 (640x427)

Liquid for Him

[The Wacko wasn’t all that great – tasted like a canned lager with pink food coloring!]

IMG_5222 (640x427)

Liquid for Her

IMG_5224 (640x427)

For dinner I ordered an entree that came with a side salad, which was awesome! Tons of arugula!

IMG_5225 (640x427)

And it came with a famous flying biscuit! With apple butter for dipping. I ate it all. Half to start and half for dessert. So good!

IMG_5227 (640x427)

For my main course I got the Sweet Cakes = black bean cakes with tomatillo salsa and a feta-sour cream topping. I ate about one plus topping, gave one to Matt and brought the third home.

IMG_5232 (640x427)

IMG_5235 (640x427)

Matt shared his meatloaf with taters and beans!

IMG_5230 (640x427)

I forget how unbelievably fun and easy it is to go out to dinner on a school night!

Home now, blogging 3 meals (B+L for tomorrow with this D), about to do some clinical reading, then hit the hay.

Friiiiiiiiiiddddddaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyy come to me!!

Rough days suck, here’s looking to a better tomorrow 🙂
I lurve Magic Hat! I went to college upstate, NY across the lake from Burlington, VT where the brewery is. Before it was offered here we used to take the ferry over to buy it and bring it home (what college kids would do for good beer!) and eventually our local bars were one of the first to get it on tap! #9 and Fat Angel are my 2 favs. I actaully have some Wacko now. It’s a bit light for my liking but not bad. Hubby and I are going to take a day trip there soon!

I usually really enjoy your blog but today I was a bit perplexed (offended?) by the Catherine’s reference. I am a plus-sized woman. I am working my way towards better health and size but for now I am plus-sized. I got the feeling you are making fun of this, by your reference. I am surprised that a person working on entering your field of work would do such a thing. You probably did not mean to come across like this, I am sure.

NO, not making fun at all!! My name is Katherine with a K and I just thought it would be fun to show the “Cath” part. I’m not sure what was wrong with just showing the name of the whole store to explain the Cath part?

I know your intention was different than that, but I too thought you were poking fun at the restuarant being next to the plus-sized store. I guess if I don’t see Katherine with a K I don’t make that connection first.

Because sadly, some people in the world are mean, and make fun of those who wear plus sizes. Not the plus size thing specficially, but for their size.

I don’t think people who read you regularly think you would ever make a negative comment on your blog in this fashion, but for those of us who have to buy plus size clothes, it’s touchy—as the multiple commets on the post suggest.

        I wasn’t offended, btw.

First time commenting too, I’ve enjoyed this place for awhile. Unfortunately I have a number of digestive issues, the main one being IBS and for me, eating huge salads and lots of fresh veggies like Kath is completely out of the question. I have to cook all my veggies, limit my fiber, and even avoid legumes and whole wheat breads. It feels counter-intuitive to what we all know about general nutrition, ie: eat 5-10 servings of fruits/veggies a day, try to eat some raw foods, eat more fiber. In my case, these things all make my body quite sick. Just wondering if anyone else suffers from similar issues. It definetly makes it harder to be creative in the kitchen.

I have the same issue julie. I used to be a vegetarian and lived off lentils and beans – I had an amazingly healthy diet but I had to give it up because my body couldn’t handle all the fibre. Luckily I can still have brown bread, rice and pasta, but raw salads are a no-no. And I loooove cooked veggies but they give me bad gas so I have to go easy on them. It’s rubbish really, and does make it difficult to lose weight.

It was explained in her post at the beginning. Maybe try reading the whole post before getting upset or just don’t read it at all. Kath didn’t mean ANYTHING negative at all (if you read regularly then you would know). Plus, this world is full of harsh crticism so maybe it would be more beneficial to find a coping skill to deal with moments when you feel targeted for any insecurity rather than getting upset with someone else.

I’m glad you had such a great night Kath! I’ve known about the Flying Biscuit for years but have yet to try it. I must make a road trip to Atlanta to do so! 🙂

    Hi Kath,

Sorry to hear you had a bad day…hopefully tomorrow will be better….and Matt had a really nice date planned so I hope that made up for it!!:)

And to all the people who get up in arms about little things – like a store being called Catherine’s – and it so happened to be a plus-sized store ….(so what? It could have been any store for pete’s sake…a wine store, socks shop, sex shop …whatever….)…get a life people!!!! Why get so sensitive about piddly things? And why pick on Kath about it? I never usually comment on things like this but sometimes it just astounds me how picky and petty people can get.

Kath – I think you have a GREAT blog – so I hope you don’t take any negative comments to heart!

G’nite ya’ll – and may tomorrow be a better day – and display less negativity.

    Hey Kath!

I went to Flying Biscuit today, too! Down in Atlanta! I had the BLT Salad with a big ‘ol fluffy wheat biscuit. I swear, every time I go there I always have a serious heart-to-heart with myself over whether or not I should take home a dozen of those doughy delights. I decide to for-go it because 12 biscuits is a lot for one little girl!

Just got some Buddha bowls in the mail! I love them. My boyfriend said if you ever had a red color he would hop all over them!

I’m inserting a musical post here: she said yes, I said wow, she said when, I said how about right now… Brad Paisley “She Said Yes” this post just made me think of it

Im sorry you had a bad day! I always like to take pictures of things that have my name in it too! Even though I never really see stores called Amanda ! You are here to inspire people to be healthy and share your healthy journey and people should know that you weren’t making fun of them!

Wow, big time misinterpretation of your Catherine’s picture huh? I think most of us know what you are getting at 😉
Flying Biscuit is on my list of places I NEED to go to in Charlotte! Your meal looked really good! Have you had their breakfast? I’ve heard that’s really good too!
Looking forward to meeting you Sunday!

Wow, people are really over sensitive!!! If these readers read Kath’s blog frequently they should have noticed the reference. She even stated it right with the pictures. Stop trying to start drama, people!

Fun Date! Just have to chime in a say I was also disappointed by the Wacko beer. I usually love their beers but that one was a bit blah.

Ah, biscuits were my favorite food for a couple years when I was a kid! I remember whenever we went out to eat ANYWHERE I would always ask my mom “Can I have a biscuit??” lol, now I’m super picky about my biscuits–they have to be nice and buttery crisp on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside!

Ok, I have to comment. I felt really bad when I saw that you were having a bad day yesterday. And then as I’m reading the comments today and seeing the drama going on..I want to remind people to stop being a victim. It’s not about being overly sensitive, it’s about creating an environment that harbors negativity anywhere you go. Changing your attitude and the way you look at things about everything in your life can change your world. If you constantly create drama, with even the smallest things, it’s all you are going to get back. And anyone who has followed this blog for even a day would know that Kath would NEVER put someone down. She’s an inspiration and a positive light in this sometimes overwhelming world. Ok..I’m getting down off my soap box. Love ya Kath!

I know this is an older post but I just had to say something about the Founder’s brew!!! I actually got to experience Founder’s brewery first-hand when I took a road trip from my home state of AZ to Connecticut (it was a loooong journey). I have some friends in Grand Rapids, MI and so we stopped by to say hello and get some brews here. They have awesome stuff!!!

Poor Matt on the yuck beer! I tried the Wacko last night, and I didn’t care much for it either. I keep trying Magic Hat beers, but they’re all just a little off to me.

I hear ya on the high-alcohol beers, too, Kath! And unfortunately, where there’s (high) alcohol, there are also calories (lots!). But I say, if you’re going to have one, have one of what you love, and enjoy!

I agree, Duckworth’s food is pretty bad but love their beer selection and the outdoot area.

And they opened up a Flying Biscuit over there? I used to live over there then trekked down to Ballantyne and now moving up there in a couple of weeks. I had no clue about the Flying Biscuit up there though, that just made my day!
