Kat’s Pose

Morning all!

I woke up very stiff from  yesterday’s race. It’s amazing how I can run 5-6 miles all the time and never be sore and I run 3.1 as fast as I can and can’t move the next day! My soreness is mostly in my hips and my upper back. Guess I was pumping (just typed pumpkin!) my arms hard!

I was craving my yoga DVDs today – that’s a first!! I guess I’m slowly started to enjoy yoga more as I’ve been doing a little bit more lately. I did 40 minutes of the Stretching and Flexibility session from my YogaZone boxed set. I think I have come to a few conclusions:

  1. That I prefer to do yoga at home whenever and however I feel like doing it and should go with the flow of DVD yoga for now instead of pressuring myself to go to the gym.
  2. That I enjoy yoga most as a polar opposite to my regular lifting and cardio. I want it to be about stretching, flexibility, release and stress relief  – not about power or strength. (Although I still want to try Bikram someday)
  3. And that cat’s pose is my favorite posture!! (I love anything on all fours and hate anything done in a lunge).

After yoga we whipped up a great breakfast – literally!

We had some heavy cream leftover from Thanksgiving and I told the husband to put it in his coffee to conserve the skim milk. He decided to whip it up by hand and after seeing the huge bowl of fluffy whipped cream, I decided to add a few tablespoons to my oats 🙂

DSC06926

The mix:

  • 1/3 cup oats, milk, water, salt, vanilla, half medium banana
  • 2 tbsp wheatberries
  • 1/2 cup pumpkin, stirred in
  • Swirl of pumpkin butter
  • Crumbled Luna Tea Cake
  • 2-3 tbsp whipped cream
  • Small spoonful Barney Butter

Check out his bowl!!!

I had 1.5 mugs of coffee.

We watched the last 3 episodes of Arrested Development this AM. We’re moving on to season 2 soon! I didn’t like the show at first, but we are totally hooked now.

Today’s agenda:

  • Some cleaning.
  • A journey to Super Wal-Mart for (hopefully) some inexpensive goods, then probably to EarthFare for the rest of the produce.
  • Reading.
  • CardioFunk.
  • Cooking a fun dinner.

Have a good one!

I think Arrested Development is one of the funniest and smartest TV shows to be produced… too bad it’s off the air 🙁

    hi Kath!

Just home from church and jumped on the puter to see your pretty oats. 🙂

I love hearing your thoughts on yoga. Ya know, I find my more “sporty” friends (as in lovers of running, previous sports team members, weight lifters, more muscular mamas 😉 all seem to only want stretching from yoga. and that’s COOL! I was never on any sports teams, way too flakey and non competetive 😉 and now I love yoga and guess I get all the cardio, strength, and endurance I crave from that. I think I’m finding personality and even body type has a lot to do with it, don’t you think?

It’s funny because when I was a runner, I never really ran fast at races, I wanted to “feel good” and be happy afterwards, so I actually slowed down at the end. My hubby (sporty competetive guy) would be like “honey, what are you doing?” I would be like, it’s not fun if I hurt!” hehee

Anyway, Kath I’m glad you can do yoga you like! Love that! Happy day, friend. XOXO

I used to be like that about yoga – thinking I did rather spend 90 mins doing cardio and weights instead of poses. One session with Bikram yoga and I was hooked. It is rather expensive so I go about 2-3 times a month. The tree is my fav and the cat too. I can’t do the rabbit pose – get a major headache when I do that.

I tried hemp milk – really great in oatmeal – loved the nutty flavor but I almost gagged drinking a cup of it. I should stick to adding it to oats.

Kath, you are such an inspiration. I am planning a half marathon this summer and your posts always encourage me to do better.

It was a little hard for me to get into the show too. I feel like with shows like that you need to see a few episodes to get the humor and enjoy it (kind of like 30 rock!! keep watching, you’ll learn to like it!). I’m finishing up the 2nd dvd now. GOB is hysterical!

Congrats on your race; I hope to run one someday! Gotta get the hang of running outdoors, first! BTW, what does PR mean? (saw you wrote that about the race yesterday)

And yummy decadent oats! Enjoy your day.

Good Morning, Kath! I’ve never tried yoga before but am interested in learning. Have you ever done it at the gym or always at home with videos? Which videos would you recommend for a beginner like me? Thanks for you advice, have a great day!

I didn’t get into Arrested Development when it was on tv, but became addicted through the dvds. I heard that they might be making a movie.

Bikram is definitely my favorite form of yoga. I like the series of poses and felt like my balance and flexibility improved so much from going regularly. I want to find room in my budget to get back to practicing.

    Hi Kath –

That is so funny that you’re watching Arrested Development as well. I just rented all the seasons from Netflix, and my husband and I watch a few episodes every night.

I didn’t like it when it was on TV – but my brother kept telling me to give it another chance. Glad I did – because it’s pretty damn funny.

Love all those quirky characters. Tobias is a ridiculous mess!

    happy Sunday!

    Molly ,
I like them OK. They’re nothing spectacular (much like Z-bars) but they’re good and wholesome.

    polly ,
Lol 🙂 I think you’re right that certain body types gravitate to certain exercises. Guess we all need to work on our cross training some.

    sonia ,
Thanks 🙂 Make sure your help milk is well shaken before you drink it. I found Bikram here in CLT but it’s $16 per class so I haven’t reasoned the cost yet.

    Marisa ,
PR = personal record. I had to ask that same question a few years ago on another blog.

    Fancy ,
I started with DVDs in college and have been to probably 10 different classes in my lifetime. I prefer to do it in private because I am still kind of intimidated during the classes. I think the YogaZone ones are good (I really like the Sunrise + Sunset one I have) but I haven’t tried a lot of other DVDs to really compare. The good news is you get get used ones pretty cheap on Amazon.

    Justy2003 ,
    GOOOOOOOO JUSTY!!! You’re almost there!!!

    melissa ,
Thanks so much for that link!!! I was looking for more free online yoga videos.

    Re. Arrested Development,
I think a lot of people try to watch it thinking it’s going to be funny, and I really don’t find it that funny (like the office) but it’s the PLOT that I am hooked on. And the character development now that I know them all better.

Guess who my favorite is!? You’d probably be surprised.

    Stacey ,
I get them at EarthFare. Do you have a health foods store? Look for “hard red winter wheat.” Or you can get them online at Amazon and Bob’s Red Mill.
