IPA

Good mornnnnning!!!!

IPA = I’m pretty awake!

IMG_8544Blog

Sun is shining. It’s not warm, but I’ll take it! After I finish up blogging, I’m headed to the bakery for more work. Except for the pressure of meeting our opening deadline and also the omnipresent financial worries, I’m actually really enjoying turning the space into a bakery. I like unpacking, organizing and cleaning! Just no more snafus, please!

IMG_8552Blog

We are out of milk + yogurt – this was the last! Tomorrow it’s pancake or bust. Or I need to find my way to the grocery store!

IMG_8550Blog

Yogurt bowl topped with sliced banana, Hemp Plus granola (my FAV!!), strawberry jam, TJ’s Sunflower Butter and chia seeds. Yogurt always leaves me feeling full no matter what time of day I eat it!

IMG_8539Blog

Chai tea

Have a great day!!

Holy Yum. That bowl of yogurt is like the perfect combo of flavors! I mean, does it really get better than peanut butter and jelly? So much better (and more long lasting!) than a plain of PB&J sandwich 🙂

Enjoy your day! Fingers crossed for no more snafus!

About to dig into some yogurt myself! Lately I’ve been loving Noosa Yoghurt. It’s made in Colorado with culture from Australia, and it legit tastes like cheesecake. Love it! Have fun today!

    I finally bought chia seeds!

I was at one of our natural food stores, which recently went through a major renovation, including making their bulk bin section bigger. And I’ve been looking all over for chia seeds in bulk, just to try them out, and there they were.

I bought just a tiny bag to see if I would like them, and added them to my oatmeal today. They’re great – love how they make oatmeal more pudding-like. Thanks for teaching me about them. 🙂

good morning! i’ve been diligently reading your bakery updates and i feel your stress! i can’t imagine how difficult and taxing the whole process is–physically, emotionally, and financially–but i’ve just started working at a bakery that is probably a month ahead of you on the whole shebang. i’ve watched the owner and GM bust their butts to open at the time they wanted, and then train a whole slew of new employees, and i know they’re exhausted. i know you and matt both have tons of experience, but just a word of (hopefully good) advice: once you hire people, get them in there doing the time-consuming but easy tasks of putting together chairs and cleaning the back!!! i appreciated being part of the process of opening as a new employee, and felt a little more connected to the store as a whole when we did open. either way, i wish you both so, so, so much luck. you’re an awesome ambassador for the brand through your blog and i know yalls store will be a fantastic representation of your passions and great harvest as a whole. hope the next few months go great!!!

Thanks for the advice Emily! Unfortunately we can’t really afford to pay employees for this preliminary time. Our pre-opening budget is pretty slim at the moment! If they wanted to volunteer 😉

dear kath. i love your blog so so much! discovered it about 2 weeks ago and have been totally addicted. i absolutely love oatmeal and have tried some of your recipes. ususally i mix it with honey roasted quinoa, amaranth, flax seeds and chia seeds. and yesterday i bought peanut butter for the first time in my life and it’s awesome (i am a german living in colombia at the moment, so peanut butter isn’t big in neither one of the two cultures). tried your microwave buckwheat cake too, but it was a desaster, maybe because i took the liberty to replace buckwheat (which is really hard to get around here) with oats. 😉 but’ll give it another try soon. love checking in on your blog and it gives me lots of ideas for healthy meals. keep it up and good luck with the backery!

Quick question- Do you find that you need some kind of starch at dinner( rice, potato, noodles) in order to feel full or satisfied? Or do you find that you can just eat some kind of protein and tons of veggies and still feel satisfied?

      Hi Chelsea,
I don’t follow the comments close enough to know if you are a new reader or are young. Kath always says she eats intuitively. I was a bit confused by your comment because nearly (if not all) of Kath’s meals are balanced–meaning includes starch/carbs. Actually, I talk with alot of young people who rarely even touch fruits and vegetables, and always eat only or a combination of either rice, potato, noodles. Those three things are not the only ‘starches’ in the world… expand your horizons! From what I can see from your photo, you appear healthy so you probably do eat balanced meals and even eat intuitively, but mix it up a little and experiment–embrace different foods. If you ate any of the meals posted on Kath’s blog you will not be leading an unhealthy life. There is a lot of information available about healthy food and balanced meals–learn new things–try nutrition.gov as well as other sources.

It kind of depends on the meal and day. Sometimes we might just have protein and veggies (like a huge bowl of stir-fry) but I try to include some carbohydrates in every meal

I love how the colors of your yogurt mess match your bowl – the red strawberry jam, the black chia seeds. Then the colors of all the other foods, the yogurt, sliced banana, and sunflower butter, all kind of blend well together, which kinda provides a neutral background, just like the white background of the bowl.

Good luck with all the bakery stuff! You and Matt should be proud of all your hard work and following your dreams!
