Cardboard Surfing

Because you have to find fun in the little things…

SurfingBlog

[Matt really did push me on that cart across our parking lot – we really did need a weight for the cardboard so it didn’t fly off!!]

Every time I go to the bakery to work I feel like I accomplish so much. I love doing manual labor. It’s so rewarding!

MittsBlog

When I got to the bakery, I found Karen and her friend Tracy and we went on a walk to admire North Downtown houses before I got started working with Matt. It was chilly out, but so nice! [Karen says hello and she’s been feeling good this week and helped out all day unpacking!]

IMG_1113Blog

Once back, I tackled unpacking tons of boxes of smallwares. I found measuring cups and spatulas and knives and all kinds of little things our equipment broker had sent!

SinkstuffBlog

Plus tubs galore, which I organized

IMG_1127Blog-2

And where there were 100 boxes now there are just cleaning supplies!

IMG_1126Blog

Matt assembled chairs

IMG_1116Blog-2IMG_1122Blog

And spent all day on these shelves

IMG_1115Blog

And did refrigerator stuff..

IMG_1114Blog

Love our floors!!!

IMG_1118Blog

Also in LOVE with our recycled glass counters!!

This happens tomorrow:

IMG_1128Blog

My lunch was SO filling and we worked until about 6 when Matt proclaimed he was starving. So I biked home while we drove and we rendezvoused at home.

Tonight we were supposed to have salmon cakes, but we gave ourselves the night off and went out for pizza instead. My mom told me when I was in my internship: “There are times when eating out makes sense.” I’d say this week is busy enough to count. So we went out guilt free!

Dusted off, lipsticked and blazered and you’d never know how dirty I really was!

IMG_8523Blog

We got the amazing hummus plate to share for a ‘salad’ course

IMG_8525Blog

I had two amazing fluffy grilled pitas and forkfulls of veggies and olives

HummusBlog

And to share – the special pesto pizza with portabellas, artichokes, tomatoes, goat cheese, pesto and mozzarella

Pizza-2Blog

Had two of those bad boys – YUM!!!

Didn’t I promise myself some R&R tonight? Gossip Girl awaits!!!

I WANT SOME OF THAT PIZZA!! Yummmm

Do you and Matt have a lot of other help getting the bakery up and running? Or is it just basically you two and some professionals here and there?

Either way, you two are amazing!

Manual labor.. quite possibly a favorite of mine. When the job is done.. it is so awesome to look at it and say.. “I owned that”

The bakery is looking great! The countertops are beautiful!

Your site looks quite a bit bigger than the two I’ve visited — does the size vary a lot from one location to another? One of ours is just a stand at an indoor farmer’s market, so maybe that doesn’t really count, but the other one doesn’t seem as roomy, either.

It is bigger – we couldn’t downsize so we were “forced” to go with the bigger option. We’re paying more (bad) but we have space (good)

The bakery looks great! You are making great progress. I bet the box surfing was SO funny. I would have died laughing. That hummus/veggie platter looks great – what restaurant was it? Have you been enjoying discovering new restaurants in the area?
