IKEAland

Karen and I ventured to IKEA today. To pick up baby things, bakery things and Karen’s house things! A multi-purpose trip for sure!

2012-04-11 14.04.10Blog

I was shopping for a Hemnes dresser. I reallllly wanted this one, but I decided it was just a little too big for our little nursery. So I settled on the 3 drawer instead.

2012-04-11 14.10.05Blog

But I’m so excited that the drawers are already lined – with white + yellow!!!

2012-04-11 14.59.25Blog

Kitchenland!! Drool.

2012-04-11 14.18.25Blog

Our little guy will have to have one of these someday 🙂

2012-04-11 14.04.24Blog

Babyland was not quite as fun as I’d hoped. Most IKEA things are neutral and modern, but it seemed like all the baby + kid stuff was wild and didn’t feel as well made. LOVED those big carrot pillows you see in that bin though! I didn’t buy one because I got a mini soft vegetable set instead : )

2012-04-11 15.12.21Blog

Karen and I took forever to get through the store, and then add warehouse shopping on top of that. Plus truck loading. The dresser was SO heavy! We were exhausted by the time we pulled away, but thankfully we had ice creams to keep our spirits up.

2012-04-11 16.59.36Blog

Because then we hit rush hour. Bummmmmer. I never think to leave earlier in the morning – I figured we’d be out by 3-4!

Snacks for the road –

2012-04-11 17.19.49Blog 2012-04-11 13.32.55Blog

And finally, upon returning home, our man was waiting for us with homemade split pea soup! Instead of bacon he used the leftover Easter ham, and I topped mine off with greek yogurt and a hunk of Cville Crunch.

IMG_8877-3Blog

Cannot wait to get cozy in bed. All of those IKEA beds made me miss my own!

Lucy has those stuffed carrots & broccoli toys! She doesn’t really care about them but I for one love them 🙂
p.s. the curtains in her nursery are made from the same white & yellow striped print as on the inside of your new dresser – so cute & versatile.

I’ve never been to IKEA, our closest one is at least 75 miles away. Probably for the best! I’d buy the whole place and I hear it’s huuuuge, haha.

Split pea soup with ham sounds so good! Haven’t had it in ages but it is yummy.

Both of my boys have the Hemnes dresser in their room. Great dresser!! Just a suggestion… when your little guy is mobile be sure to use the provided strap to secure the dresser upright. We learned our lesson the hard way… during naptime my son decided to make a bed in the bottom drawer and when he climbed in the dresser fell over on him. I’ve never run upstairs so fast in my life. Anyways, he was fine but a scary situation that we could have prevented. Love following your baby adventures!!

3 drawer hemmed for the win! It’s a good size for three drawers and I think plenty of space for baby. Onesies fold up reaaaaly tiny. I got 2 packages of the coordinating drawer organizers and it has set up nicely. We will see what I think once the baby gets here.

I was thinking I wouldn’t mind an IKEA dresser for my baby’s room… but I’ve never seen them in person. We don’t have an IKEA here in Vegas! I think the closest one to me is in LA. I’m jealous.

We bought that same 3-drawer dresser for our son’s nursery (he’s almost one). It’s awesome, but just a heads up that we always make sure we are nearby when he’s exploring the dresser for two reasons: 1) as someone else said, it can tip over if it’s not secured and ours isn’t yet, and b) the drawers are very heavy and roll shut easily. You have to make sure that tiny baby fingers don’t get caught.

We put a changing pad on top of it instead of getting a changing table and it worked well for us until our son reached about 10 months, at which point we moved the changing pad to the ground because he kept trying to escape. 🙂

Can’t believe how empty your Ikea was! Mine is usually PACKED with people no matter when you go! That’s a huge plus to not have to deal with the crowds! Ikea definitely makes you earn the ice cream at the end with their maze of a store. =) Can’t wait to see the dresser in the baby’s room!

I love IKEA. Every time I go in there, I cannot help but want to re-do every room in my house that is not already ikea-fied. We did our whole kitchen through IKEA last year, it is gorgeous and super functional, although, it took forever to design. If anyone thinks the warehouse is complicated, try the kitchen design! But, it is absolutely stunning. No one who comes to our house can believe it is Ikea, they think it’s a uber expensive kitchen. I even got my recycled quartz counter through them.
    I <3 IKEA.
