Home Sweet Home

It’s kind of fun being home on a regular day – not a weekend or holiday. I can’t really believe that my parents still live here now that I moved away almost 9 years ago. My parents were nice to put together a romantic anniversary dinner on such short notice. I requested a childhood favorite: steaks on the grill with baked potatoes!

On the drive up I snacked on a Clif Nectar bar around 5pm. LOVE these bars. They are the perfect size (slightly smaller than Lara + Clif bars) but still with that wonderful chew. The vanilla flavor in this flavor is very apparent and I loved it.

IMG_7113 (1024x768)

Upon arrival around 6pm we were showered with “happy anniversaries” and encouraged to have a drink to celebrate

 this !

I had a miniature Manhattan, extra sweet! (That’s about a 6 ounce glass)

IMG_7115 (1024x768)

We chatted for a while and then collaborated to put together dinner on the grill.

IMG_7117 (1024x768)

Lillian even participated!

IMG_7120 (1024x768) IMG_7119 (1024x768)

On the menu:

Grilled Sliced Potatoes

IMG_7123 (1024x768)

A 100% vegetable salad (radish, cuc, mushroom, carrot, bell pepper, celery, lettuce tossed in homemade dressing)

IMG_7125 (1024x768)

DEEEEEElicious corn on the cob (much better than Sunday night’s)

IMG_7127 (1024x768)

And the sirloin steak

IMG_7129 (1024x768)

We even had a bottle of red from our rehearsal dinner!

IMG_7128 (1024x768)

To the wedding!

IMG_7130 (1024x768)

And there was a surprise cake!!! Thanks to Dad for picking it up. Raspberry in honor of our chambord cake!

IMG_7124 (1024x768)

My plate – a little of everything and a glass of vino

IMG_7131 (1024x768)

Homph. I preferred the veggies to the meat and ate about 80% of my slice. I don’t know if it’s psychological (knowing too much) or physical (taste), but meat just doesn’t do much for me like it used to…

IMG_7132 (1024x768)

Kanz wrote the date into the cake 🙂

IMG_7133 (1024x768)

I’m still a little caked out from our trip, but again, you can’t turn down your own anniversary cake! I had a small piece, and it was quite good!

IMG_7135 (1024x768)

After dinner Matt, Mom and I went on a walk around town. About 30 minutes until the sun set. It’s quite hot, but still a perfect summer night.

I believe my dad chilled some champagne for the anniversary as well, but we forgot about it. I might just have a taste if it gets opened when Karen and Andrew get here. I’ll let ya know. (I’m ready for some water if you ask me!)

Tomorrow is Grampa’s funeral at noon, so I’m not sure what my blogging schedule will be, but I’ll probably be around in the AM.

Off to start a new book…

I’ve enjoyed reading all your posts about your anniversary – I just got engaged on Friday, so they’re doubly exciting!

Aren’t those bars so good? they are seriously one of my favorites! It’s so sad though because Clif is discontinuing the nectar line products. I cried my heart out when i found out the sad news ='( have you tried the nectar cacao ones? dark choc walnut one is esp good!

Am also really passionate about food…currently making a short documentary about the Spirituality of Food. Here’s the trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tDOrV3yZY2Q

If you know anyone who’d find this interesting, please pass it on! If you want, I can let you know when the final film is complete! I think it’s very in line with what you’re blog is all about.

I am sorry about your grandfather but hope you’ve had a great anniversary. We got married in July 07.

QUESTION: Besides cutting potatoes and placing them on the grill, is there anything else that needs to be done to the potatoes (oil, butter, etc)? How long do they need to grill? How often are they flipped?

Neat that you had wine from your rehearsal! Are you going to have it (Old Vine Zin) every anniversary? My wife and I brought a bottle of Brunello di Montalcino, our very favorite, on our honeymoon. Then we had it for our anniversary, and decided it’s a tradition! As long as it doesn’t bankrupt us…

Awww, sounds like you guys had a wonderful anniversary! June 2 is actually my birthday, so it was fun to check in and see what you guys were doing to celebrate your holiday as I experienced by own little celebrations.

Also, I continue to be completely envious of your grill (or maybe in this case, your parents’ grill?). My studio apartment has NO ROOM for a grill. I keep watching all the bloggers grill their pizzas, their potatoes, their veggies … as I push my sad little grill pan around on the stove! You guys are very lucky!
