Home Is Where The Oatmeal Is

Loved my trip, but glad to be home with all my stuff. And thrilled to be eating KERF oatmeal again!!

Slept till 6:26 today and got in my 8 hours. Workout is scheduled for quittin’ time hour.

Matt does inventory on Mondays, so he was home to help make breakfast.

The Mix

  • 1/3 cup oats
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1/2 tbsp chias
  • 1/2 banana (always grab a banana from your hotel if you think you won’t make it to the grocery store!)
  • Cottage cheese, stirred in
  • Galaxy Granola !
  • Crofter’s North America heated in the microwave and poured on top
  • Justin’s Maple Almond Butter

Shapes brewing…

Help me out today guys – my mind is shot!

Consumed while trying to catch up on The Office!!

IMG_7571 (640x427)

We are SO behind on TV! Glee, The Office, 30 Rock. And am I correct that GOSSIP GIRL is back tonight!?!?! Or am I a week early. My calendar says today. AHHHHHHHHHH!! Best show ever.

Off to start my new rotation at a corporate wellness firm. Excited (and exhausted).

Kath, your oatmeal always looks like art! I can never make a batch of oats that ends up looking like that. I’m pretty plain when it comes to oat making: oats, water, mashed banana, various toppings. Your incorporation of things like cottage cheese and chia seeds sounds good, but I’m not nearly that adventurous with my oats. Maybe I need to come down and try a bowl of your oats myself to make me a true believer! 😛

I have to comment to your breakfast post a few days. I have to object to your category as “in a pinch” for non-Greek yogurts aka artifically sweetened.

There is no scientific proof backing your opposition to non-Greek yogurts. Your opposition is a perfect example of food elitism.

Most normal people don’t give a damn that something has gelatin or whatever. And like many people, I can’t stomach the taste of Greek yogurt- it’s like sticking sour cream in your mouth.

As long as my fat-free yogurt in whatever flavor (I prefer vanilla or lime) has 90 calories or 100 calories, I’m down with it. It’s also 49 cents as opposed to the 99 cents and above for Greek or organic yogurt- and has much less sugar than those brands.

We’ll see if you keep this post- you tend to actively remove posts that aren’t examples of slavish devotion.

I don’t remember Kath saying non-Greek yogurt. I thought she just said artificially sweetened yogurt. Anywho, i would say the same thing; that the “hotel” yogurt is probably not a good option. The yogurt that i would eat doesn’t have to be greek but i am not going to eat something with a ton of artificial sugar (splenda, equal, aspertame, whatever) with funky colors added to it. That isn’t exactly food in my opinion.

    • emily says

      March 8, 2010 at 10:54 am

NON-Greek, Plain unsweetened yogurt also costs about 50cents. Nothing she was saying had to do with whether the yogurt was Greek or not (although Greek does have more protein), it had to do with the use of artificial sweeteners. Read more carefully before you go out of your way to be caustic.

And if you want the post to be kept up you should have left the last (utterly bitchy and ultimately pointless) sentence off.

      Hi Veronica,

I saw your comment on here and thought I’d share an article I read about Greek vs. nonfat yogurt. My husband and I both like Greek yogurt, so we lucked out because it is definitely an acquired taste – I have friends that think it’s too thick, as well.

      http://www.usnews.com/health/blogs/on-fitness/2009/4/6/greek-yogurt-vs-regular-yogurt-which-is-more-healthful.html

I’ve personally asked Kath about her take on non-nutritive sweeteners, and her response was not so much one that banned them, but, in keeping with a tried and true food philosophy, everything in moderation is best. And I have to say that I agree with it – not out of any devotion to her, but out of my own education in nutrition. That being said, I have many friends who swear by those types of sweeteners. It’s the nature of opinions – everyone has their own.

I’m not here to defend Kath in any way, but figured it’d be ok to leave my response with this link, if by chance, your comment does get removed.

      Take care!
      -Jenny

      Veronica,

I have no problem with you disagreeing with me on artificial sweetener consumption, but I do have a problem with the way you stated this. Eat what you want, but there is absolutely nothing healthy about artificial sweeteners. I also said nothing about greek yogurt. And never said you could never eat sweetened yogurts. There are a handful of all-natural brands that I would consider a best choice. I’ll continue to eat real food.

Kat- true, Kath didn’t say non-Greek but I think the implication is there. And again, your food elitism shows through. If it tastes damn good and is low-calorie, has calcium, it IS food.

Emily- unsweetened, plain yogurt tastes gross- seriously, Let’s be real here. I’d take artificial sweeteners in m yogurt any day, considering I don’t have them in the rest of my diet- I eat whole grains, tons of veggies, fruits, etc.

Thev very last comment of mine was bitchy- my bad.

Bitchy.. but true. I applaud you for speaking your mind.

A little bit of artificial sweetners wont kill you.. they arent beneficial, but if they get you to make better food choices … Like a yogurt as opposed to a jar of peanut butter… then they are working for you. It all depends on your goals.

Im not a food elitist.. personally I dont waste my money on packaged bars, superfoods, and the like… those dont qualify as ‘whole’ foods to me. Each person has their opinion and its all relative. What Kath considers ‘healthy’ is different than what I do. If I ate a huge bowl of oats with candy toppings every morning, I’d probably have an extra 15-20 on my frame too. But Kath is a handsome girl and she carries it well.

WOW just to put my 2 cents in to the Great Yogurt Debate up there…..what a crazyface.

    1. “food elitism”. please let us expunge the word elitism from our vocaburies. it is a politically charged word that has been distorted by right-wing politicians who are manipulating the insecurities of uneducated; uncosmopolitan america.

    2. the gelatin and corny syrup yogurt you’re eating may keep you slim, but it sure isn’t sustainable or enviornment friendly. how on earth can you villify a yogurt which is made from just friggin’ milk, pure and simple?

    3. i don’t think kath or KERF or whatever this young lady chooses to go by deletes comments that challenge her. in fact, she quite intelligently responded to a comment i left which questioned her seafood choices. and honestly, she probably doesn’t have the time to wage a great internet yogurt war.

anyway. you can also make yogurt at home. cheaper than that 90 cent crap you buy at WalMart and better for the environment.

And Paris food blog: give me a break. I’m going to call out elitism, whether you like the word or not. And I’m a card-carrying liberal, just so you know,

Also feel free to make your own yogurt. For the rest of us people who work, squeezing in work, exercise, making lunch and dinner every day is enough work, much the less spending time with significant others/friends/enjoying events in the city.

And my rockin’ Lucerne lime yogurt is 49 cents, thank you.
