Heat & Eat

IMG_1159

I really can’t remember heat like this in my life. There are very, very few days of the year that I don’t want to go outside and this is most definitely one of them! Our family discussed going on a hike, but I went on a 15 minute walk to a pool and back to inquire about membership and the walk was unbearable (especially the uphill return!) And unfortunately the pool had a LINE out the door of people waiting to get in because it was at max capacity. I can’t imagine waiting in this heat just to be allowed inside to swim. I guess this is why people build pools in their backyards : )

Thus, I’m kind of giving up on exercise today. Other options: the gym or a DVD. I don’t really want to drive to the gym, and walking isn’t going to happen until after sunset when the gym is closed. I could do a DVD, but I think I’m just going to take the day off and start anew tomorrow. Maybe I will go for a walk at dusk!

Karen had PB&J for lunch and that kicked in a craving for me, so I had one too. This sandwich is a wedge because I am terrible at slicing bread and always cut on a diagonal. Matt made me correct my error by eating my slices in the shape I “ruined” the loaf with

 this !
This was homemade strawberry jam by our Great Harvest friends Ginger and David – delish!

On the side I had leftovers. Greens, shrimp and corn.

Showertime!

I waited until the sunset to go for a jog yesterday, it was muggy but bearable.

SO hot!! I can’t believe I’m still alive after 8 miles out there. Currently drowning myself in smoothies.

Last week in TX we had 100* plus every day. Today it’s 82* right now, which is odd. How hot is it there?

I’ve always wanted to try that… I might get around to it once it get cooler. 100* weather + Florida humidity SUCKS. Not really the type of weather to put you in the mood for more heat ;]

There are still lot of people without power (I know Carrsbrook, Still Meadow, lots of Crozet and Ivy, Earlysville, and probably Scottsville), so the pool or the Key Rec center are the places to be today. I’m so grateful our power came back yesterday around 1.

You should have turned the top slice 180 degrees so it turned out a flat sandwich!

The heat you describe…I swear to god the summer I was pregnant San Diego had record-breaking heat and we were living in a 1920s mission revival with no a/c. I was so.incredibly.miserable. Pregnant or not, hot is hot. Stay cool and don’t overdo it, Kath!

I can’t imagine 100 plus humidity. I know I should never say never, but that is why I’m never moving east of the Dakotas.

I was a FISH in the pool at our campground growing up. but there were never more than 20 people or so enjoying it.

I certainly enjoyed the pool at my parents’ house today. 🙂 we just got it put in three years ago, maybe. LOVELY for a pre-dinner float.

As much as we complain about the weather here in the UK, we are lucky that we don’t have to suffer in the heat like it sounds like you guys have over there. It is currently grey, rainy and cold here. Yay for British summer!
