Greetings From The Love Shack!

 dsc08795.JPG

Vacation is off to a great start!! We slept in (well, you know me – 7:30 a.m. was sleeping in) and went for a wonderful run. I love running so much that it’s always part of my beach vacations – so pretty and breezy. Folly Beach is perfect for running too with lots of long flat streets and no traffic. We did about 4 miles, 2 on the roads and 2 on the beach at low tide. Then we walked another mile to pick up some milk for breakfast! Can’t make oatmeal without milk!

dsc08791.JPG

We had internet trouble this morning and I thought for a minute I might be without access all weekend – but after resetting the router all is well. So in the midst of the stress, I FORGOT to photograph my pre-run peanut butter toast!! Here’s a visual representation. I had half a piece of bread with a tsp of PB.

dsc08784.JPG

Vacation Oatmeal!

I didn’t want to feel stuffed today (and we ate late around 10:00) so we just made 1/3 cup portions of oatmeal. I brought toppings from home!

With trail mix and PB looking out from our rooftop deck –

With coffee –

Today’s agenda includes:

  • Starting a romance novel
  • A trip to the grocery store
  • Walks on the beach
  • Smoked salmon sandwich
  • Bike riding
  • Bocce ball games
  • Blackberry picking
  • Some beer
  • And a low country boil!!

Awesome. What a nice looking vacation. I’m in crunch time right now, I’ve got so much work to do before this weekend because I’m going to Napa with my parents, sister and her boyfriend, girlfriend and her parents. I shouldn’t even be here right now….Enjoy!

I made your cottage cheese pancakes the other day and liked them, but today I mashed a banana in (it was WAY too ripe for me – I like them still green – but I thought it might be okay in there) and also added some of my favorite spice, cinnamon.

I never believe it when people say their concoction tastes “just like ___,” but I swear this tasted just like banana bread! And smelled like it, too! It was SO good I just had to share 🙂

I know you’re not answering questions on your trip, but man, i have to comment, why would you have stress on your vacation. You’ve got NOTHING to be stressed about. You come from money (that’s pretty obvious though you shy away when asked directly how you live the lifestyle you do, have the leisure to rattle around campus, nothing to worry about but flashcards and wheatberry. Enjoy what you’ve got. Cuz others don’t have that at all. This blog is a little bubble. Hope your groupies realize it someday.

Where is the stress you are referring to?!?!?! I don’t see her stressing about ANYTHING. All she did was talk about how great the vacation feels, what she is doing the rest of the day, etc.

Stop commenting just to be rude! Go away…. see ya!! No one wants to hear from you.

Can anyone else figure out why people comment like this??? Jealousy, grumpy, just plain dumb???

    Ya got me.

Alright, I’m biting… gonna stir the pot!

I like this blog a lot. I’ve gotten a lot of greta recipe ideas and Kath likes a lot of the same foods I do (sans meat). And I’ll admit I’m mildly just plain old amused at blogs on other peoples’ lives. I think kath seems like a really nice person and it’s great that she does what she does.

So, while I am not condoning coming on someone’s blog and being downright rude, I will agree with the one part of “meh’s” post about groupies…

Some of you guys totally emulate Kath, like you know her and are her BFF. Some send her stuff, want all their dishes and housewares to coordinate with hers, and if someone comes on questioning her methods in any way (let’s face it, she’s a little rigid to say the least.. she may even agree with that) then you attack the poster and defend Kath like she just got kicked in the shins. I say, let’s all take a little inventory, realize that as long as Kath makes this a public forum people can say what they like and just chill.

Ok, now you guys can flame me, LOL!

Hahaha the “stress” was when Kath thought she might not have internet access. She was kidding!!

Kath, I totally know what you mean about the flat roads. I live in a really hilly community, so when I go on vacation and get to run a flat route, it’s like a vacation from my usually running routine, too!

I have to agree with Korin on this one. I do like Kath’s blog because frankly I get a kick out of seeing how “obsessed” someone is with perfection. Deny it all you want folks but she is obsessed with perfect eating, perfect displays, perfect food. While yes she has her “splurge meals” even these are perfect. I mean seriously for most people a splurge isn’t a few extra glasses of wine or a couple of servings of lighter dessert.

I think she has good intentions, I really do but I also think her lifestyle is a bit unrealistic for most people. I’m not going to comment on the money thing because who cares if she has it or not? I’d love to find a blog that has a more realistic view of living and eating. I guess the shoe dropped for me when she made the comment that she was trying to get more “iodine”. What?!?!?

I truly hope that people will let these comments die. I realize this seems odd to say, considering I myself am commenting. But what I want to say is this: I find it sad that these comments seem to pop up while Kath is on vacation (this is when it happened the most viciously last). Just let her have a nice time with her husband!
Constructive criticism is fine. I am sure that Kath can take it. However, malicious comments are really unnecessary. Some might say “if you don’t like it, don’t read it.” I know that is pointless. I will say, if you don’t like it, don’t comment. The only thing that will ensue is a battle of words between “critics” and “groupies.”
Give Kath a break and let her have a nice vacation.

    Well said Exa.

Constructive criticism is good, we all need that sometimes… but there is no need to do it while she is trying to enjoy herself (and she did say she is going to read comments when she is gone, would you want to read these things while you are trying to enjoy yourself?).

But honestly, there is no need to talk about her financial situation… it’s just not necessary.

Personally, I don’t see myself as emulating Kath but I do look up to her because of the success she has had conquering her weight and managing a healthy lifestyle. Everyone is at different stages in their lives and on different journeys, so if you can’t relate to her particular lifestyle, that does not make Kath a bad person.

Recently, I have noticed that the bloggers have begun to focus a little too much on her and her hubby’s lifestyle which is ok if she is willing to share but the focus of the blog is food and healthy living.

I am well aware that when one opens up their personal life they are going to be scrutinized, but I just don’t think she deserves some of the awful comments some of you have written.

There are many blogs on the net. If you search maybe you can find one that suits your needs.

    What. the. heck.

The fastest, fastest I can get ready (7-8 min. shower, blowdrying long curly hair, moisturizer, makeup [foundation, eye shadow, eyebrow shadow, liner, mascara, etc), light spray of perfume, deodorant, getting dressed….is 45 mins!!!! And that is blowing through it. I just don’t get it.

Not to imulate kath, but to get more creative with my meals. Kath doesn’t have to do this, so show a little more respect to her and her family! And the comment is always “it’s a food blog.” Well, based on Kath’s posts, it’s not only a food blog, but a “look what I bought today” blog, an “I’m so smart and the biggest brown noser in the world and I got another A” blog and a “look at my big house” and “I’m a democrat” blog.

    Whatev –

Even if I did think that those sentiments are what Kath was trying to project, I have to bring up the fact that people would think this blog SUCKED if Kath was brutally honest and oversharing. Say what you like, but people like to read positive information.

How many people would still read this blog if all Kath did was complain about the nitty-gritty? Remember when Kath’s husband didn’t have a job? Or how about the fact that she is commuting to Winthrop? (She makes is look sunshiney, but trust me – it isn’t). Maybe she’s wealthy; maybe she’s a perfectionist; maybe not. Leave your opinion, of course, but dont forget that for every “Kath groupie” that thinks they know her and are BFF, there’s might be an “anti-Kath groupie” who thinks they know her just as well. it’s a blog – its her choice. She technically is a journalist, and how she chooses to craft her messages is not an accident. She gets you to react, doesn’t she?

in the meantime, Kath, enjoy your vacation with people who don’t have to pretend to know you (positively or otherwise).

fair enough, i stand corrected on the first part. i stand by the second half of my comment. the “negative” posts are accurate. this blog is a shallow way of pointing out how fabulously wonderful kath thinks she.

    Stephanie –

Agreed – there are differences. But as academics in journalism and mass communications haven’t really agreed on where blogging fits into the spectrum, I continue to evaluate this blog as a journalistic work. Though it may not be textbook journalism, I’m not sure that “being a blogger” and “being a journalist” are mutually exclusive.
