Goin’ On A Bear Hike

We woke up to bright sunshine this morning

this !

And stumbled down for some oats. I hate it when you are extra hungry the morning after overeating. My guess would be that the overproduction of insulin the night before makes your blood sugar drop abnormally low, making you extra hungry. I haven’t gotten to Metabolism yet (next fall!) though, so that’s my hypothesis.

My hypothetic hypoglycemia was cured with this delicious bowl –

I actually wanted cereal but mom and Matt requested KERF oatmeal, so I made a big pot.

The mix (serves 1)

  • 1/2 cup Great Harvest Cranberry Almond mix – mixed with some 9 grain cereal, 1/2 cup soy milk, 1/2 cup water, 1/3 large banana
  • 1 tbsp flax
  • Crumbled GH power bar
  • Spoonful MaraNatha AB

I sipped on coffee as I cooked

In typical Younger fashioned, we’re headed out hiking today. We wanted to hike at the US National Whitewater Center, but the trails are closed from yesterday’s rain 😥 I think we’re headed to King’s Mountain instead, which is a farther drive, but still a cool mountain with 22 miles of trails.

Be back later!

I am in need of a nice long hike – after a cold winter indoors, I crave the solitude and beauty of nature. I’m planning a day trip out to the Berkshires in western Massachusetts sometime soon. Enjoy your hike!

I have a very similar hypothesis re: hunger after overeating. It drives me CRAZY because its like, “I just ate! Why am I hungry AGAIN?”

Great oats, and thanks for the kindergarten song earworm 🙂

The whitewater center is a blast! I went there with my mom a little while after it opened. We didn’t have time to do any of the rafting, but we did enjoy a nice lunch. Next time I want to try the rock climbing wall! Have a good hike 🙂

Yes… Your hypothesis is quite accurate. Staying up too late also makes you very hungry in the morning if your liver doesn’t get a chance to do its clearing between the hours of 1 and 3.

I’ve heard that when you overeat the day before, your stomach expands, so when you wake up in the morning, you feel more hungry than normal.

Hi i’m a newbie to the whole blogging world. I’m trying to eat healthier and i really enjoy your blog. I just have a quick question though. I don’t know if you eat greek yogurt but if you do how do you eat it? Just plain? I just bought some and tried it today and didn’t enjoy it at all. I bought just the plain style. Also if any other readers have any suggestions they’d be greatly appriciated! Thanks!

Lauren- I like adding some honey or fruit preserves to sweeten it. Greek yogurt is different in flavor and texture, but is so good once you find a way that you enjoy it! Top it however you would regular yogurt- granola, cereal, fruit, nuts etc.

Kath- enjoy your hike! I think your insulin/metabolism hypothesis is correct- at least it seems right! have a great day!

Lauren – I buy Oikos Greek Yogurt in the flavored varieties. Vanilla and Honey are the best, but blueberry is quite good as well. I have never liked the taste of plain greek yogurt either, so I know exactly what you mean

Lauren – I like plain Greek yogurt mixed with fruit (berries or kiwi work great), sliced almonds, and a tiny bit of honey.

Chobani also has fantastic flavored Greek yogurts if you can’t do plain.

I believeeeeeee the overnight fast stimulates production of neuropeptide Y, which increases appetite… I think overproduction of insulin might mean its time to see your doctor!

Right after I put on my sugar water bug repellent, right!?

    Heather ,
I bet that’s part of it too 🙂

    Lauren ,
I do love Greek yogurt. I usually mix in things for chew and crunch: cereal, bars, pumpkin, flax, jam.

    Amy ,
    Very cool!!! Thanks for sharing!

    Anne ,
Thanks for the info! That sounds familiar…
