Go Go Girl

I feel like one this week – go go go go go go.

Never made it to that Epsom salt bath last night. In fact, I’d say I only actually take a bath when I say I’m going to on the blog about 25% of the time. I always run out of time and get stuck doing blog work right up to bedtime!

Maybe tonight…

Breakfast in your favorite bowl!

IMG_2776 (640x427)

I get more questions about this bowl than any others. It’s from Homegoods (a mish mosh of brands) and is made by 222 Fifth by PTS International. Whatever that means!

I wanted a no-cook breakfast today so I made a yogurt mess:

  • 3/4 cup Organic Valley Yogurt  – Berry (the rest!)
  • ~1/2 serving Kashi Cinnamon Harvest
  • ~1/4 cup Hemp Plus Granola
  • Chia seeds
  • Coconut
  • Half banana
  • Pecans
  • TJ’s Valencia PB drizzle

IMG_2772 (640x427)

Lots of crunch!

Imagine the overstimulation of my nervous system when I encountered ANOTHER ROACH this morning. And this time he FLEWWWWWWW at me when I tried to spray him. OMG. So not a calming morning two days in a row. I really don’t need roaches on top of everything right now!

I’m going to have Matt pull the couch back. These are palmetto bugs, not roaches technically, so they don’t infest your house. They just come in. My mom swears they come in pairs – husbands and wives – which does make me sad to have to exterminate them myself. But they should just keep their romance in my yard and not in my house! I am unbelievably claustrophobic and that’s why roaches INSIDE make me crazy.

[Note I saved this encounter for after the food for those of you with light hearts!]

Off to work.

So sorry about your roach problem. Eeeww. Though the idea of husband and wife roaches is a little cute. 😉
I love that tea steeper. I have to get back into loose teas. As a non-coffee drinker it’s fun to have something to drink when I “go out for coffee” with friends.

I know what you mean about the palmetto bugs! I’m a coastal NC native but have spent the last 3 years in Michigan where they have almost NO bugs…but I’m back in NC for the summer (at the beach) and I’ve already had THREE inside the house within 1.5 weeks. Now I’m having difficulty trying to calm down at night to sleep 🙁

OMG I hate palmetto bug season! I can tell when it is time to spray around the house when I find one or two inside. Even with a super clean house, they still come in! The only thing we have found to work is to buy a bug spray that you are supposed to spray around the perimeter of the outside of the house as well as around the doors and windows on the outside of the house. The next day you walk out and you can find dead ones all around, but at least they are outside and not INSIDE.
The only kind of spray that has worked for us is the cheapest gallon of outdoor bug spray at Lowes. It is clear and comes with a spray nozzle/hose that you put in the pre-mixed solution and simply spray. I’ll try to get the name.
Breakfast looks yummy as always. 🙂

In the tribute, I cooked the oats separately. But sometimes I stir in an egg to the oats themselves at the beginning of cooking.

I totally know what you mean about those roaches! We just moved into our new house and it has a hot tub on a deck. As fabulous as that is, my husband informed me that because of the deck and palm trees back there, we’re going to see more palmetto roaches, too! The other night, we were getting out of the hot tub and my husband said, “Oh! This one just flew at me!” To which I replied – “They don’t fly!?!” Then, right as I was spraying it with bug killer (I swear I’m “green” everywhere else), it FLEW AT MY FACE. I squealed like a girl, dropped the spray and ran over to our other back door. Horrible… I’m so sorry that’s how your morning started off, Kath. Couldn’t have been relaxing :/

I grew up in New Orleans where we also had the flying kind of roaches. I hated them more than I’ve ever hated anything. We called them tree roaches cuz they seemed to come from the huge magnolia trees in front of our house. We also occasionally saw river rats (they’re BIG) cuz we only lived a few blocks from the wharves along the Mississippi River.

Can you not spray the perimeter of your house to keep them from coming in? I have a pest control service and that is what he does monthly or every other month. Not to scare you, but I tell my pest guy, if I see two bugs, you HAVE to come back and spray cause two bugs can make babies and I do not pay you to let them have babies. Good luck.

I’ve been wanting to suggest something for your morning oatmeal that I do sometimes to add a little extra protein to my day- smash up a chunk of tofu into a paste of sorts and then add it to your cooking oatmeal. I usually microwave my oatmeal because of time in the mornings, so I add the tofu before I heat it up, it makes the oats very creamy and I never taste the tofu!
