Glued Down

I am so tired of looking at this…..and where is Sears!?!?!?!?

DSC06608

I called my contact at the store and as of 11am he was going to “check with the delivery service.” This is all after I called delivery myself and got the wrong department, was told my number “was not in the directory,” and then got disconnected. I have to be at the car place at 5:30, so I don’t think this stove is coming today. Guess we’ll be cooking for the husband’s grandmother on the grill….or microwave….or back at Karen’s. UG. Deep breaths.

More deep breathing was required after my Organic test this morning. I totally bombed one question and know I got a few smaller questions wrong. The problem is that we are so rushed to finish this long test in 50 minutes that you have to rush through, which means more panicking. I never have time to finish, much less check over my work. What frustrated me most was that the question I bombed was one of the reactions I was most confident on – I just didn’t recognize the starting material correctly. Another UG. More deep breaths.

But I did have a wonderful lunch! I didn’t feel like making anything big so I did a tasting plate.

Since I am waiting for the phone to ring, I’m glued down to my house. I want to go for a walk and to Lowes for wood glue to repair this shutter but I don’t want to risk missing the call (even though I’m sure the stove is not coming today).

I spent some time after lunch cleaning the kitchen, which feels like a mess due to the remains of “the accident.” I haven’t swept the floors in a while because i keep thinking the stove people are coming to make a mess so I’m putting it off but it’s getting on my nerves! I reorganized some shelves and cleaned out our whole spice rack, which had 3 years of dust and old spices in it 😳

Guest Lunch Post: Salad Party

Reader Melissa writes of her clever way to use up some extra CSA lettuce heads!

My partner and I are members of a CSA, and this week (our last of the season), we got four heads of lettuce!! We still had one left over from last week’s three heads, so I knew there was no way we could finish them in a timely fashion. Instead of letting the food go to waste, I invited all of my lady coworkers to have a salad party–on me–this afternoon. I offered them a choice of veggies (onion, carrots, celery) and toppings (cheddar cheese, goat cheese, craisins, raisins, walnuts and pecans), and made everyone a delicious, individual salad!

We obviously haven’t eaten yet, but here’s a photo of the salads, all packed and ready to go.

Great idea Melissa!!

Christmas Book For Kids

You guys might know that my mom is a published children’s book author. Since we’ve entered the holiday season, I have to blog about her Christmas book! It’s a cute picture book told from the perspective of a child while his family unwraps their Christmas crèche. If you have little kids to shop for this season, consider adding it to their holiday book collection: Unwrapping the Christmas Creche.

Xmas Book

Off to sit by the phone….

Chem question for you Kath, how much does Orgo chem build upon Chem 2? I am just finishing up Chem 2 with the worst professor ever and although I have a good grade in the class, I don’t really feel like I have learned anything (grr) so I’m hoping that it doesn’t put me at too much of a disadvantage for when I take Orgo this summer. I have heard that it is pretty different then chem 1 and 2 so I’m hoping it won’t be extra hard for me? What do you think?

    Thanks in advance!

    ModelBehavior ,
No, I had the worst Chem II professor  You’ll be fine. I don’t think Orgo is like Gen Chem AT ALL. In fact, I could have easily skipped both of my Gen Chem semesters and gone straight to Orgo this time around and been fine. What a waste of time they were! Orgo is all new stuff, so you should be fine.

    Good luck!

Aww the book looks cute. As kids we had quite a creche, and my 2 sisters and I got to pick out a new figure each year. Now we have about 40! It’s quite a display, and I love to see out at my parents house each year.

    RE:Sears

We just had to purchase a new washer and dryer from them not long ago. I took the day off because they were supposed to deliver between 7am and noon. Three o’clock, four o’clock, six o’clock came and went with calls to Sears and getting moved around the “customer service”. Around eight that night, I finall got to someone who’d told me that the machines had already been delivered – mind you, I hadn’t left the house all day and near as I could tell, the new machines hadn’t appeared magically. Long story and lots of calls later, the boys showed up sometime around 10pm that night and didn’t look too happy. As if I’d interrupted their dinner with the delivery order.

    Not happy with Sears overall.

Yes, deep breaths! I need to do that more often then I like. But it’s best not to be distressed.

I love the guest post! I don’t think I’ve ever been in a situation where I’ve had an over abundance of lettuce, but I still think it was very creative!

I’m still optimistic that Sears arrives today!

Kath, I read your blog all the time but this is my first comment because SEARS is the WORST with delivery!!! I ordered a W/D from them, called them the day before delivery to make SURE they knew to bring a 4-prong plug. Guess what? They brought the wrong plug. Oh, and they left the W/D in my living room. And they didn’t deliver the new plug — just the PLUG — until four days later. I was SO annoyed, just like you!!

If the mess something up, it takes days to fix it, because they schedule those appointments to fill the whole day. I hope you get your stovetop soon!!!

I hate waiting like that! Our cable company does it often, but for service and repairs, they are fairly timely. I’d call the customer service. I always call the customer service lines when I’m upset. I don’t approach it as a complaint, I just like to let them know what’s going on!

I did want to ask you though, I always wanted one of those flat-top stoves. Would you still get one after this?

Reading Emily’s comment made me remember that I have heard many complaints about Sears. BF used to work for the service department (programming their GPS for the drivers) and he said they aren’t stellar either.
But unfortunately, you can’t beat their prices sometimes!!!
P.S. Kath, thanks for helping me out! YOU ROCK!

Uggghh, call sears and make sure they still have your order. We went with them b/c of “next day delivery” when our fridge broke. I mean seriously I need that thing! Our order got dumped from the system when the model we ordered got sold out after we placed the order. There is no back up in their system to let them know… your order is just gone. So poof, we are no longer in their system and went a week without a fridge. I hate them, ride their booties till you talk to them, they cannot be trusted!

And as far as Sears is concerned…if I didn’t think their appliances were far superior to everything else..I would never buy one again. We needed our dishwasher repaired earlier this year, and the whole process of calling and setting up the service call, to the service call ,to ordering parts and getting another service call to install the parts took a month and a half!

Good luck! and good for you for cleaning your spice rack..I should probably do that. 🙂

I hope you get your stove soon. It must be tough to not have a stove to cook on – I know I would be lost.
A quick question for you and all the readers – have you had the batteries for your Polar HRM changed online/local? How fast is the online service? I need to get mine changed – the watch shows the low battery indication. I am not too sure what method to choose.

That is so cool that your mom is an author, I didn’t know that. So I googled her name and saw that she authored That’s What A Friend Is, which is a book I have and have loved for years (like 20)! I have always thought that book is so cute and has the cutest pictures. I used to read it to my 3-4 year old Sunday School kids when I was like 19-20 years old.
    Awesome!
I have always wanted to write children’s books and have “written” a few, never done anything with them. Maybe someday!

    Katrina,

You’re sweet to post about That’s What a Friend Is but I didn’t write it. P.K. Hallinan did. I wrote another book with that publishing house and somehow the various booklists got our names confused.
