You are here: Home / Weekend / Glorious!

May 9, 2010

Glorious!

Today can be summed up in one word: glorious!

I read my book (South of Broad) in bed for an hour next to Matt.

And then we went RUNNING in the sunshine!!

Yep, my leg is feeling much more normal on a regular basis so I decided to test it out again. I’m excited to report that I made it about 3.5 miles without any feeling or any pain in my leg (although I did aim to run slow and keep my stride short). I started to feel a little bit of twinging from 3.4 – 4.3 miles. No pain, just "feeling" it. I’m not all better, but I’m on the mend. Another week or rest and I’ll do another test. It feels great post-run, so that’s really good news too.

When we got home, we decided we should do some weeding in our yard since our realtor is coming to take some updated exterior photos.

I was getting hungry and was very thirsty so I had the second half of the ISO-5 coconut sports drink to tide me over. I really like these! The lemon/lime/pineapple flavors the best. And I like that they come in small bottles. One bottle is only 11 oz and 60 calories, I believe.

IMG_2414 (640x427)

I am very experienced at weeding. My dad used to make me weed ridiculous things when I was in high school as my "chores." One time I had to trim a bush with scissors!!

IMG_2417 (640x427)

Weeding your own yard is much more enjoyable. Especially if you’re trying to sell it!

IMG_2420 (640x427)

I also swept the driveway

IMG_2424 (640x427)

IMG_2426 (640x427)

IMG_2427 (640x427)

And MOWED the front yard! (Only took me about 25 minutes)

Then it was LUNCHTIME!

IMG_2450 (640x427)

Matt grilled us up some delicious sandwiches. Applegate Farms Herbed Turkey, Wisconsin bleu cheese, tomato, spinach, mustard.

IMG_2433 (640x427)

SO GOOD! The outside was charred and crunchy and the bleu cheese was strong!

IMG_2438 (640x427)

We complimented the sandwiches with some kettle chips! Nothing goes better with a sandwich 🙂

These are a new kind sent to me to review from Boulder Canyon Natural Foods.

IMG_2434 (640x427)

The chips are great – crunchy and curly – just how they should be! Ingredient list is simple. But the best part is that the bag is compostable!!!!

IMG_2436 (640x427)

I portioned out a handful onto my plate. Matt ate from the bag! He LOVED them!

IMG_2447 (640x427)

I was in charge of the fruit portion of lunch and asked Matt if he wanted to chew his fruit or drink it. He chose drink! I Vita-mixed together:

  • 1 cup Organic Valley Yogurt Drink
  • ~1.5 cups fresh local strawberries
  • 1/2 a banana
  • 2 handfuls ice
  • ~10-15 roasted almonds
  • 1 scant scoop Vega Vanilla Chai (which really makes any smoothie fabulous)

Matt couldn’t get enough of it!

Notice the Davidson seal on my glass

 this !

IMG_2458 (640x427) IMG_2456 (640x427)

Lastly, we added in some celery with some of that TJ’s Cilantro Jalapeno hummus. It was amazing!! Spicy with tons of flava. Definitely worth buying over making it from scratch, in my opinion.

IMG_2460 (640x427)

IMG_2454 (640x427)

IMG_2453 (640x427)

My shademaker!

IMG_2451 (640x427)

I’m in the middle of packing for my trip and deciding what to wear to the funeral.

  1. Nude hose or black? Or none?
  2. Black sweater or blazer?

It’s going to be cold and rainy.

IMG_2469 (640x427) IMG_2467 (640x427)

Lastly, mom sent me this awesome You Tube video of a virtual choir. Everyone recorded their part individually and they streamed it together – with a conductor and everything. Worth listening to the whole thing!

Have a great afternoon!

Beautiful sandwiches, and I love the idea of almonds in a smoothie! Did the flavour come out very much?
I’m glad you’re leg is feeling a bit better – and I gotta say, you have such toned legs!! Definetly pins to be proud of 🙂
That choir thing is beautiful – I couldn’t listen to the whole thing (I’m meant to be working :p) – but the first half was gorgeous!

Love when I have productive days of running, cleaning, cooking, etc. Makes your day feel full of accomplishments! And you’ll probably sleep great tonight. That’s always a plus. Have a fantastic rest of the day.

We just bought a bag of chips of that brand from Costco but it’s Rice and Beans and Chipotle Cheese flavored. I didn’t know the bag was compostable–I think my dad cut off the top where it may have said it.

That grilled sandwich looks deilsh. I used to HATE weeding. I grew up on a small farm with ginormous commercial greenhouses. My dad used to want me to get under the flower benches on the gravel and pull the weeds out. That job didn’t last long, lol.

It is awesome to see that since we have tried so hard to live this life of healthier food choices, that they too love it. They do not know any different and it shows – they ask for healthy foods and they are not at all picky. I love your photos too 😀 Nice Job!

Personally I wear whatever is comfortable to funerals. I’m already sad enough without having to worry about what I’m wearing! Although this has gotten me into trouble before with a relative commenting on my shoes which I deemed way too dressy for me, but they deemed entirely too casual for a funeral. Blech.

I *LOVE* Eric Whitacre (the conductor of the choir piece). My favorite piece by him is “Sleep,” it reminds me of my high school chorus days.

Either black hose or none! Nude hose should be against the law!

    Hi Kath,
I was reading your post and you mentioned a leg injury. Would you tell me what kind of injury it was? I have trouble with my IT Band and I’m just getting back into running, so if it’s the same thing, I’m wondering if you have any tips! I already foam roll, stretch and have insoles in my shoes so my feet don’t pronate, but I still feel the pull sometimes!
    Thanks,
    Lauren

      Hey Lauren,
My problem isn’t IT band – I think it’s poptilous muscle (sp?) Take it slow!
