Fabulous bowl of fruity oats today! Those farmer’s market blackberries might be worth a trip back for more!

  • 1/3 cup oats
  • 1/3 cup skim
  • 1/3 cup water
  • Pinch salt
  • Splash vanilla
  • 1/2 medium banana
  • 1/2 cup blueberries
  • 1/2 cup blackberries
  • 2 tbsp homemade granola
  • Spoonful almond butter

With hot tea made with skim milk –

Despite another long night of sleeping, I slept horribly. I definitely have a cold, but DayQuil seems to be helping. It’s also cloudy outside and there’s thunder in the distance :(  I am having lunch with a friend today so I decided to move my workout to the afternoon because otherwise breakfast and lunch would have been back to back. I’m going to take it easy this morning and upgrade my computer to Vista! Hopefully I won’t have any upgrade complications….

      Kath,
You did not sleep well and you have a cold! Poor thing. It sounds like your body needs a break. You have worked out really hard the past few days. Maybe you should just take the day off. Hope you feel better!

      Hi Kath,
When you write 1/3 cup oats is that uncooked or cooked? Your bowl this morning looks delicious – as it does every morning. Enjoy your day & get well, I hope you feel better soon.

I bet you are sick because some idiot on the plane was and they got their germs all over everyone! That has happened to me before, been on a cross-country flight with someone coughing and sneezing a few rows ahead of me. Lo and behold I was sick when I got back 🙁 Now I ALWAYS take Airborne or Emergen-C before I fly!

Boo to being sick 🙁 I had a summer cold a couple of weeks ago and my husband forced me to take liquid Day Quil (gag)… it definitely helped!

      Feel better soon, Kath!

Sorry about your cold and the terrible sleep! 🙁 What a horrible combination–Hope you feel better soon!

BTW, I love how you only used 1/3 cup oats [I know that’s already one portion, but I never get full on that amount!] and yet it looks like you used 1/2 cup! I guess the 1 cup of berries really bulked up the oats 😀

Your oatmeal always looks so yummy! I was making mine with 1/2 cup oats and feeling SO full before I’d finish (but it was so good, I’d eat it all), so I started doing 1/3 cup and it’s a much better proportion. Had some fresh blackberries recently, too, and they were SO good.
Sorry you’re feeling sick. Not fun! Hope you feel better soon.

Hey Kath, do you ever use airborne? I drink it whenever I feel something like a cold coming on and I swear it makes it end faster. You can get free samples of it and mysavings.com to. The orange is my fav, I actually mix it with OJ to get a double whammy of vitamin C.

If you’re sick, take a day off from working out. Bodies need rest, and then you avoid giving everyone else your cold!

Hope you feel better soon, Kath! I wanted to tell you that I have recently switched from 1/2 cup of oats to 1/3 cup, and it’s been a great thing! Before I’d either feel too full or end up throwing part of my oatmeal away. So thanks for the tip! And great looking bowl of oats today too 🙂

Hey Kath, I hope you feel better soon! I agree with everyone about your 1/3 cup of oatmeal. After eating a 1/2 cup serving, I’m SO stuffed…but 1/3 is just perfect! Thanks for the tip.

On a side note, I logged onto My Knot website yesterday and through a friend’s profile, somehow came across KathMarried…and I thought, “Could this be the Kath from KERF?” Surprise, it was! You’re wedding pics are gorgeous!

I’ve been having a sore throat/nose thing for almost 2 weeks and I actually just got back from the doctor’s. They stuck a little camera down my nose to look at my throat… which was extremely awkward and I couldn’t stop laughing. Ouch.

The doctor didn’t find anything conclusive, just “maybe a viral infection.” I’m starting to think my not so regular sleep may be the cause – like you!

Keep up with that fruit– the best old-fashioned cure for a cold!

Sometimes if it’s just a head cold I find working out (at whatever level I can) helps a bit– I really believe the sweating is healthy, and sometimes it even helps me decongest. Anybody else find that to be true?

i’ve gotten tonsilitis, strep throat, and the flu, respectivly, after 3 separate plane flights. it is totally those gross germs circulating in the not-so-fresh cabin air.

I teach Kindergarten and have basically been sick for the past 3 years, so here are all my tips!!
Ariborne (lemon lime) and Emergen-C (tropical) mixed together in a small amount of water. This is a yummy combo that works!
(I know about the airborne refund thing, it’s just that they can’t say they guarantee your cold will be gone. I still love the product!!)

Also, take garlic!!!! This is a natural antibiotic!!! I swear by this!! I once took 20 pills before bed and I was better the next day. Even if you just take 10 a day, it works after a couple days.

On having a cold and working out, I heard that it’s ok to work out if your sickness is from the neck up. It can even help your nasal passages!!!

      That’s all I have!

Aw, feel better! I recommend eating citrus fruit, which feels good on your throat and has lots of vitamin C, and drinking chicken soup, which is pretty much the only way I can get myself to consume protein while I’m sick.

      Sammie ,
Uncooked. A normal serving is 1/2 a cup but since I use so many mix-ins (granola, fruit, nuts, etc.) I’ve found 1/3 cup works better for me (unless I need breakfast to last me longer that day).

Glad to hear so many of you found the smaller serving suggestion working well for you!

      SweetsandSweats,
Upgrade went well!! There’s not too much different, but I think it’s more user friendly than XP. Can’t really say how, but little things like when you upload a file from the “browse” button.

OH YEAH, and those of you who like Windows Live Writer – Windows Live Photo Gallery is great too. I just got it during BlogHer and it’s making my photo editing much quicker.

      Re. Airborne,
Despite the recalls, do you guys think it works?

      Sara ,
That’s me!! Cool you stumbled upon it.

      Cathy ,
I don’t really have any specific advice since every class is different – I really lucked out with my Chem I and II classes being pretty easy relative to some of my friends’ professors. I’m taking organic in the fall – and I’m pretty nervous about it!

Kath, in my opinion the Airborne is still a good product. It may not “cure” your illness, but it is still a product packed with tons of great vitamins and will (no doubt) at least help a little in preventing illness.

I am pretty sure the lawsuit was because of the company advertising it as “curing” colds, where as it acts more like a mega-vitamin…

Just my opinion though! Couldn’t hurt, right?
