Fruit Soup

IMG_2204Blog

Good morning to you! I’m blogging from my desk in the basement, which has been neglected since about April. I ditched the basement for a workspace upstairs at our dining room table on my laptop. But my nesting instinct is over the cluttered look up there despite how convenient it is, so I’m moving back down for a bit. The view is pretty nice from here! I also think the basement is going to become baby central (TV, room for toys, more baby proofed) so I think it’s a good habit to get back into : )

Cereal for breakfast!

IMG_2193Blog-2

There were four types of fruit in this bowl, so I was thinking it reminded me of fruit salad, although…I think fruit “soup” is more appropriate given that the fruit was swimming in milk! Topped off with Erewhon Raisin Bran.

PSA of the Day

OpenSky is having a big Julyfest at the moment – $10 credit (that’s like a coupon!) and FREE shipping for all members (and members who join today) through midnight tonight. Picnic Table In A Bag just went live in my shop 20% off this morning, and a protein powder made certified organic, grass-fed, sustainable whey is now available – called Tera’s Whey. I picked up some from Whole Foods when the only veggies I could eat were in liquid form earlier in my pregnancy and loved the Bourbon Vanilla flavor – and of course the whey it’s made : ) This also makes the “I Eat Real Food” shirt only 20 bucks! Christmas in July!

I absolutely love that purple bowl! Purple is my favorite color and it really makes your picture pop this morning! 🙂 Fruit is so good for breakfast. I love it.

I would love to get the purple bowl and the light teal mug you posted yesterday I think for breakfast. Will you sell them on opensky? I just ordered the 4 pack garlic nuggets on open sky and hope we like it. Been meaning to ask if you think grapenuts is a healthy enough topping crunchy on the oatmeal. Thanks.

The purple bowl was a gift, and I believe it’s a chain store like Pier 1. The teal mug was a former OpenSky product that is no longer available 🙁

    Hi Kath

This has nothing to do with this post, but I was wondering about your thoughts about baking with stevia? The sugar mass has to be replaced with something else, so does it make sense from a calorie/nutritional point of view?

I’d try Stevia in the raw, which I think is better for baking. Or just real sugar and have a small portion of whatever it is 🙂

I often feel like my oatmeal and yogurt is a “fruit salad” because I have a hard time just choosing one or two fruits to use at a time. Especially during spring and summer when there are too many yummy fresh fruits to choose from. I was checking out OpenSky this morning and saw that picnic table. What kind of Vitamix do you have or recommend?

Thanks for the response Kath. I have been debating buying one for awhile and I know I will use it a lot so I’m treating myself to a birthday present. I’m just deciding if I should splurge for the most expensive model and if it is worth it. Are you happy with yours? Anyone else have any opinions to share?

I would love to open a smoothie shop or a bakery/cafe. I don’t know why I’ve waited so long, so I’m excited to use it. Lots of smoothies, peanut butter, pesto, guacamole, salsa in the future. Does yours grind grains?

You need to buy the dry container to use it for grinding grains 🙂 It is a separate piece from the regular container. I have both.

It does grind grains–but they really recommend getting the dry container to do that, because the other container will end up scratching easily. It also does it more efficiently!

I just got mine in the mail 2 days ago! I finally bit the bullet after wanting one for a couple of years. I already love it! So far I’ve only made smoothies, but it’s definitely a keeper. I’m hoping to do soups and nut butters soon. For reference, I bought the Creations GC model.

KATH – I started to have SIABs for my late dinners after work/school and LOVE my new routine. I can’t believe I didn’t try one sooner. Banana + Ice + Nut Butter + Hemp powder + Nut Milk. Vitamix. Pour into bowl and add brown rice crisps, Cvill clusters, coconut butter, fresh berries… SO freaking delicious and nutritious and such a great light and easy to digest meal for my post 8pm dinners! THANK YOU for the inspiration! 🙂
