Art Full

IMG_2179-2

Tonight I met up with several of my artsy girlfriends for a night of live arts!

Matt walked me downtown before he left on a run! It’s a really, really nice night out!

IMG_2165-2

I met up with my friend Lindsey at Rev Soup for a quick dinner beforehand –

 IMG_2167

It’s too hot for soup, but not for a quesadilla!

IMG_2168

This guy was filled with black beans, spinach and cheese and was quite tasty!

IMG_2171-2

Especially with this nicely pureed salsa and sour cream combo on top – I cleaned my plate!

IMG_2174

Nutrients on the side – the fabulous raspberry + goat cheese spinach salad. Perfect portion!

BYOB

IMG_2175

After dinner, we popped into Splendora’s for two bites of gelato – world’s smallest cone! [Coffee + heath bar flavor!]

IMG_2176

The show du jour was HAIRSPRAY! I hadn’t seen it before (in a theater or either movie) but it was great. Lots of 60s jive and some good themes of gender, race and culture.

IMG_2186

I vowed to see more of the arts when we moved to Cville and so far I think I’ve seen 3 theater performances – more if you could small dance shows. Not enough in 2 years, but counting!

IMG_2188-2

Really fun evening! This was such a great thing to do with girlfriends, as I’m sure the men would have grumped a bit at the musical. We all enjoyed it!

Looks like a fun night! I love that you can get a two-bite cone like that, I need a place like that in Charlotte! Everywhere I turn a new froyo place is popping up but it’s impossible to keep those cups to two bites!

    Also that quesadilla looks AMAZING!

I am surprised you were able to take pictures during the show! Usually theatre’s don’t allow that because it can be distracting to the actors (stage actor speaking here LOL). I LOVE Hairspray though! One of my fave ‘fun’ musicals!

love hairspray! I sing along to it at work all the time (ok, quietly in my head).

I notice you are wearing flip flops and that you have mentioned its because you have foot problems, which may be why you don’t switch it up with cuter shoes. have you seen this article? http://www.cnn.com/2012/07/18/health/flip-flops-hurting-feet/index.html just some food (haha) for thought!

It’s just way too hot out to wear anything but flip flops – the thought of wearing my Toms or flats makes me sweat! I also have pretty wide feet, so most flats give me blisters. Considering the amount of walking I do, blisters can’t be an option : ( I know flip flops aren’t great for walking, but no blisters > support + sweat at the moment.

In the South (I’m from TX) you can’t get a way from flip-flops in the summer! I only wear TOMS or flats if my toenails need painting.

Hi Kath! I was in Cville about a week and a half ago. We only had time for one meal in Cville and we ate at Rev Soup. It was DELICIOUS! Of course, we were there on a 100+ degree day and my DH wants…soup. However, he was coming down with a cold, so I can see how he’d want soup on a hot day. He got the tortilla soup (it looked YUM!) and I got the ’90s Club. Oh my….so good! If I lived in Cville, this would be one of my haunts! It’s such a cute place!

I think “Hairspray” is so wonderful! I’ve only seen the 2 movie versions – never a live show…yet – but I really appreciate the way it brings out issues about race, gender, etc. in an approachable way. For people already familiar with those issues, perhaps it’s a little light-hearted…but for others, I think this makes a great segue into deeper conversations. Glad you liked the show! =)

I have always loved “Hairspray”! The original movie, the musical, and now the new movie are just all awesome!!! Glad you enjoyed yourself!! Did you go to a Children’s production? There is such a formal dress-code for musical theater here, although it fun to wear my cocktail dresses and see men dolled up in suits.

No, but it was community theater – a very small theater too – and everyone was casual. I would have totally dressed up for a production at a fancier theater on a Saturday night.

I made my boyfriend (now fiance) watch Hairspray with me in the theatre. Back then we had a rule about the movies…he’d choose the movie and then I’d choose the next one so we weren’t always watching movies one person wanted to see. Hairspray was my choice that week and I thought it was hiliarous–although I got sick towards the end of it (too much popcorn).
