Forbidden Fruit

Did she just take a bite out of a pumpkin?

IMG_8740

Is that a Venus fly trap!/

IMG_8739

Just the fruits of fall! A persimmon and some figs! I determined that a persimmon is a cross between a peach, a mango and a pear. It’s the flesh of a peach, the super sweetness of a mango and something a bit gritty with thick skin like a pear. But they are quite delicious! [And y’all know I heart figs <3]

IMG_8733

Alongside my fruits, I made a FABULOUS wrap!

IMG_8730

A whole foods tortilla slathered with pumpkin butter, then topped with leftover roasted veggies, then chicken and finally bleu cheese!

IMG_8713IMG_8714IMG_8715IMG_8716

Broiled for about 5 minutes to heat him up

IMG_8722

The bleu cheese and pumpkin butter and crunchy roots and savory chicken all worked so well.

IMG_8728

Here is how I eat my “wraps” – kind of a loose taco style! Pinch, hold tight and bite!

IMG_8736

I had a date as a preworkout snack

IMG_8711

And hit up Body Pump today!! It was actually an express class and only 45 minutes long. We hit a lot of muscle groups, but I noticed we did not do biceps or triceps. Lots of legs though! My legs were quite tired climbing up the hills on the bike ride back home!

I actually got my write on this morning. I am working on a long research article on Superfoods. Research-based writing is SO MUCH HARDER than creative brain writing!! I think this one is going to take me a while But I’ll get there

Smile this !

I had a mandel cookie bite for dessert, then back to work!

Did you check out all the varieties of persimmons?! 🙂 http://www.seedtosupper.com/persimmons.html

I’m used to the one you pictured, as well as the soft kind. The skin peels off easily, and when overripe, there’s these chewy jelly-type things inside.

I agree that research writing is so much more tedious than creative writing – you have to worry about all that proper sourcing!! I’m glad you had fun at Body Pump. I got a chance to do the new release last week and the shoulders track is a killer!

I’ve never thought to use pumpkin butter on a savory wrap or sandwich, but I feel like it would be delicious. And I don’t know that I’ve ever even seen a persimmon in a grocery story (maybe I’m not looking hard enough!), but the taste definitely sounds intriguing!! Good luck with your work!

I love persimmons! They’re probably my favorite fruit in the whole world, but it’s hard to find really good ones in the Berkshires (MA). We’re just too far north, I think, and when I’ve bought them from the grocery store, they’re way more mealy than they should be.

The first time I tried persimmons was when I lived in Israel, and I would buy them fresh from the markets by the (huge!) bagful. They are so delicious, and definitely have a bit of a mango flavor to them.

Agree with Katy – don’t eat persimmons until they are mushy! Unripe (American) persimmons make this awful filmy substance in your mouth and can actually coagulate in your stomach (probably not unless you eat a lot of unripe persimmons though)!

When I was growing up, there was a persimmon tree and a fig tree in our yard. Persimmons and figs fell to the ground and we cleaned them up…year after year after year, but we never even ate any! Can you believe it? What a waste. If only my parents had known there was a tasty goldmine growing in our yard. What I wouldn’t give to go back in time and educate them and my childhood self.
