Figgy Pudding

Sundays are the one day a week (now) that the husband and I get to spend together. I’m so happy he got to sleep in today – going on 5 days straight of getting up early wears him out. He’s also got quite a wrist/thumb problem from overuse and is wearing a brace. Hope he gets better 🙁

He read his book this morning while I did 20 minutes of Gentle Hatha #2. Then we made oats!

IMG_0332

The star of today’s bowl was dried figs that I picked up from Harris Teeter last night in honor of VeggieGirl’s delicious muffins!

IMG_0329

  • 1/3 cup oats, 1% milk, water, 1/2 medium banana, pinch salt
  • 1.5 dried chopped figs
  • 1 tbsp wheatberries
  • 1/3 cup cottage cheese (heated in bowl and stirred in at end. It got watery in the microwave but the husband didn’t want any so I had to do it that way instead of stirring in. It turned out OK despite breaking down some from heat.)
  • Coconut butter flakes
  • Pecan pieces
  • Cinnamon Honey PB

A chandelier brew. I haven’t had coffee all week and I did not have headaches!!!!!!! I didn’t finish this whole cup. It seems this time last year coffee started to get unappealing too. Strange.

This camera makes colors more vivid than life!

We watched The Making Of The Dutchess after breakfast. It was a fabulous movie!! I’m not the biggest Keira Knightly fan (I found her very annoying in Pirates despite loving that movie overall and although I loved Atonement, she was too skinny and annoying there too) but I LOVED her in The Dutchess! She was warmer, healthier looking and so beautiful.

I’ve got a HUGE to-do list today as the day before classes start, but nothing too painful. We’re going biking + running in a little while.

Wish the darn sun would come out – grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Thanks for the review of The Dutchess – all I could think of while watching Atonement was how Keira Knightley needed to gain weight … it was distracting!! Maybe I should give her another chance.

I LOVE putting cottage cheese in my oats – that and pumpkin both do such a good job of bulking it up. I usually put the cold cottage cheese in the bowl of hot oats, stir, and microwave for an extra 30 seconds or so. It seems to do the trick!

Have a great Sunday with the husband 🙂

Does any one have any good ideas for a sustainable breakfast for before an exam? I have exams next week and I really can’t think of a breakfast that will be both filling and keep me alert during the entire 3 hour exams.

Either breakfast or lunch ideas. Or both! But breakfast, mostly 🙂

    Thank you guys so much!

Geeze Kath. I’ve said this before, and I’ll say it again. You’re a freakin’ MACHINE. Working out every day. I start with good intentions, and go for a week. And then I stop for a month.

    Haha.

    Cheers to you, mate.

I watched Atonement with my husband and his friend and neither of them thought she was too skinny! How is that possible?! I don’t know why, but I was dissapointed and annoyed at the same time with both of them. She wasn’t just a little too skinny, she was skeletal!

How could you put Kiera Knightley down for her weight? Maybe she’s naturally thin, either way, if you expect people to accept you for your shape/size, I would hope you wouldn’t judge others…evenf she has an eating disorder, do you think she deserves to be attacked?

At first I didn’t like Keira, either, and I kind of get the impression that she just thinks she is really awesome. She’s grown on me a little now, though, and I cannot help but like her just a little! I also want to see The Duchess a little. 🙂

Oh my gosh, I am dying for some dried figs right now! I haven’t put them in my oatmeal in forever, but dried fig/banana/almond butter oatmeal is one of my favorite combinations. Turkish dried figs are my favorite, steamed for a 20 or 30 seconds in the microwave and then thrown on top of oatmeal!

The only kind of figs I’ve ever had are in fig cereal bars haha – I think I need to change that!

I really like Keira Knightly, I think she is a great actress and I love all of her movies. It’s not fair to be commenting about her weight though…she is naturally skinny and for some people it’s hard to gain weight. I know first hand that it hurts just as much to be called “too skinny” as it is to be called “too fat”.

I agree with Shelby. As long as she’s healthy, there isn’t such thing as “too skinny.” Different weights work for different people – and I feel that when people call Keira Knightly too skinny, they aren’t concerned about her health, they’re making a stab at her physical appearance, which I feel is a bit snobbish and can be very hurtful.

i love kiera knightly ^_^ she seems very natural and down-to-earth. she does have this odd way of talking though (with her mouth-has anyone else noticed? it kinda juts forward and she really enunciates!).

i agree its not very nice to comment about weight, but we all do it anyway ^_^ she does seem really tiny, even if she can’t help it. but she also seems athletic and healthy-not falling-apart skinny so i dont know!

    Re. Keira ,

Hmm…maybe I need to get some dried fig one day!

Anyway, when you use 1/3c of oats, is it still filling enough or make a good enough portion? I’m wondering because if I ever make Kath classic with 1/3c if it would give me a good enough portion. (I use 1/2c of oats in KC. Love the recipe!!)

    Kelsey ,
When I make 1/3 a cup I am usually adding more grains either in the form of wheatberries or bar toppings, so it’s like a half cup portion. But if I didn’t add those I’d use 1/2 cup.
