Encore

I know what you’re thinking: She had cake in her oatmeal again!?

Nope, the encore is for the bikes!! I woke up kind of HOT this morning and the thought of riding our bikes in the cold was appealing. So that’s what we did. It helped that it was 10 degrees warmer today too. I’m so glad we were able to ride them once more. I was kind of queasy this morning – I think I ate toooooo much 🙁 But I did OK at the gym. 30 minutes on the Stairs (including some Organic Chem 👿 ) and some stretching before we biked back home.

Then I made this WONDERFUL bowl of oats in my new bowl!

  • 1/3 cup Windy Hills flax oats, 2% milk, water
  • 1 tbsp raisins
  • 1/2 large banana
  • Salt pinch
  • 1/4 cup pumpkin
  • Pumpkin pie spice
  • Pumpkin butter
  • Flax
  • Almonds
  • Almond butter on a spoon

Here’s another belated happy birthday and some words of wisdom…

Let’s see, I was a senior in high school on October 26, 1982 (but only sixteen at the time: I was a bit young for my age! *wink*)

I turned twenty-six myself in early 1992, or nearly seventeen years ago and let me tell you this: it goes by in a flash. I know, I know. You’ve heard that from every other old person on the planet. And no one who’s twenty six can possibly imagine seventeen years going by in a blink. But trust me, it happens. You see the brain, unfortunately, has no capacity for storing time. All we know is that events have past, but we feel exactly the same as ever: therefore, time must be moving fast. There’s no other explanation.

In the movie City Slickers, we learn that the secret to happiness is “one thing.” That “one thing” is different for everyone: it’s up to each of us to find it and stick to it.

I wasted a LOT of time (and money) trying to figure it out. I’m still not sure if I’m there yet, but I think I’m finally getting close. I started an epic novel in 1993 and I’m finally finishing up the second paragraph!

My advice to you: make sure you know what your “thing” is; live life the best you can; and don’t let a day slip by. Someday you just might want them back. 😉

i’m such a fan of fun bowls too. there’s a great store in NY called Fish Eddy’s that has fantastic bowls and plates and stuff and everytime I walk by it I have to use serious restraint not to buy some!

Happy belated birthday, Kath! I don’t suppose the husband would share the dressing he used on the kale, would he? Maple-vinegrette? even if it’s a rough idea, it would help – I have some kale to eat up and since my husband loves maple syrup, I thought it would help convince him to eat it too! Thanks!

Looks like you had a wonderful bday … and so many well-wishers! I got a huge chuckle over the sw potatoes, kale and fish for bday dinner — made me question if you’re your Mother’s daughter?

Looking forward to my bday celebration this weekend — it will be hard to top yours.

    Love, Dad

    caitlin ,
Cool contest! I know I’d never win because my stuff is all so normal, although always needs replacing 🙂

    Charlie Hills,
    Great advice!!

    Melissa S.,
Sorry you are having comment trouble. I check the spam filter and didn’t see any of your posts there. Hopefully you fixed the problem?

    Fancy ,
We’re definitely hoping to greet some readers. Most likely Sunday morning (the 9th?) for coffee/breakfast. I’m going to do a call for emails soon!

    JennC ,
It’s really well written – like it a lot!!

    Julie L,
I’m pretty sure it was just maple syrup, apple cider vinegar, hazelnut oil (or you could use olive), salt and pepper.

    Dad ,
But clearly since I ate about a square foot of cake this weekend I have to have gotten some of her genes!

A trip to Boston sounds fun to me!!
