Early Bird

Dinner tonight was served at 5:00 sharp so that Matt’s dad and Cheryl could get back on the road to Spartanburg at a reasonable hour. It was fun to eat early! We ate when I’d normally need a snack, so it worked out well. And the whole kitchen was cleaned by 6:30PM so I had the whole night to get things done.

We enjoyed a few cocktails with our guests –

I had 2 small glasses, 1 before and 1 with dinner.

IMG_1940 (480x640)

We made my mom’s Homemade Tomato Sauce with a ground beef addition

IMG_1950 (640x480)

IMG_1945 (480x640)

With whole wheat penne –

The sauce was delicious, per usual. Go sherry!

IMG_1949 (640x480)

And Matt’s Great Harvest Virginia Rolls, which I had never had but OMG!!!!!! They are potato rolls and were the most delicious dinner rolls ever.

IMG_1944 (480x640)

A dab of butter –

IMG_1948 (480x640)

Pull-apart dough (mom, you would have loved them!!)

After we said goodbye, I worked for 3 straight hours. One metabolism Powerpoint assignment and one Oatmeal Buffet Real Food Consultation Report + Meal Plan later…. I’m pooped! Again!

Wanted to lounge with Gossip Girl, but I think I’ll just head up to read in bed now.

5 Minute Showtime

Whilst at BlogHer, Ed + Ashley interviewed me for their 5 Minute Show. Find the coverage here!

Tomorrow:

  • I DO have class, but only one of them at 2PM
  • Matt will be brewing beer all day (= busy at our house)
  • But I will be working hard all day to knock more assignments off my list (coffee shop? Library?)
  • I am taking a day off of exercise because 1) I need it and 2) I am getting a MET (Metabolism) test on Tuesday administered by Victoria, who works at the YMCA. It should tell me what my BMR is, so I can’t do anything to spike my metabolism tomorrow. I might start the day with yoga, but nothing strenuous.

I love doughy bread – those rolls look delicious! I enjoy an early dinner sometimes as well – gives you so much more time to get things done at night.

Sorry you don’t have labor day off – at least you only have one class!

Oh that’s awesome about the metabolism test you’re getting done. I got mine done last quarter in my Nutrient Metabolism class, and I was so bummed at how low my metabolism came out (especially considering how active I was then!). Aww well it’s very interesting!!

Those tests are really quite inaccurate. I had mine done 3 times in the span of a few months, all under same conditions (fasting, no caffeine, first thing in AM is supposedly most “accurate”) and got 3 wildly different numbers.

OMG! Those dinner rolls *faints* They look amazing! Our dinner was almost identical to yours, sans the yummy rolls. 🙁

Your metabolism test should be interesting. Everyone I have heard take one has a “slower-than-usual” metabolism, which I think is peculiar! I’m a BIG fan of the Harris Benedict equation, it’s always worked very well for me and actually worked better than my bodybugg that I wore for several months (glorified pedometer IMO, doesn’t tell you anything special being it just uses averages anyway).

Interesting that you are getting the metabolism test! Why exactly? I mean, I’m intrigued as to if it is meant to encourage you to change anything or if it is just interesting info to have…

That bread looks so good – nothing better than butter on that and using it to soak up pasta sauce!! Wowzers!

I prefer early dinners, I think I sleep better if I don’t eat (or exercise) too close to bedtime.

For some reason, the sound isn’t working on my computer, I will have to watch the video later 🙁

Ha, old lady here! I regularly eat dinner around 5pm. I find I need a full meal every 5 hours, so it happens to be the perfect time following a noon hour lunch 🙂

That is some serious “carb porn” happening with those potato rolls. They look awesome!

Matt really should post a recipe tutorial for those rolls on his site. *hint, hint*

Doesn’t have to be the GH recipe (probably rules against that), but I bet he could make his own version!
