Drinkable Nutrients

IMG_3223Blog

Yogalicious happened earlier this morning. After a few busy Wednesdays and Saturdays I finally made it back to my new favorite vinyasa class.

How glorious was it to bike in warmer temps today! No crying occurred!

Yoga was just Ok today – not my very favorite class. I was feeling a bit sluggish too. But I did love the moment when we were all in forward bends with our butts in the air and Marvin Gaye’s “Let’s Get It On” came on. Several people laughed out loud!

By the time I biked back home at 1PM I was so leggin’ tired!

Fill me with nutrients!

Poor Girl’s Juice

  • One $.99 cucumber (peeled of wax)
  • Half a stalk of $1.99 organic celery
  • One $.10 organic carrot
  • One cheap lemon

It tasted good too!

Love it! I really want to learn how to juice! How do you feel about juicing fasts as a means of detox?

Ehh I don’t believe in detoxes. But I do believe juicing is nutritious.

Can you talk a little bit more about your thoughts on detoxes, Kath? I’m just curious – I hear so much about them and get conflicting information.

My opinion is that we have a detoxifying organ: the liver. The last thing you want to do is starve the liver! That doesn’t mean I think we should all just eat junk and let the liver work for us, but I don’t think energy and nutrient deprivation (which most detoxes are) is the key to being healthy. Health isn’t about what you’re not putting in your body – it’s about what you ARE putting in. Rather than detox, tis better to focus on eating really healthy whole foods – lots of fruits, veggies, and nutrient-rich foods and perhaps cut out alcohol, sugar or other non-whole-food things you might eat regularly that don’t make you feel your best. If I were to “do a detox” I wouldn’t drink alcohol and might say no to desserts, but I think that people who eat well 90% of the time don’t need detoxes.

Yay – question for you – I just got a juicer and was curious if you think about it as a meal add-on (like today) or if you drink it more as a post-workout snack?

I think it’s good as either. I used to only think of juice as a breakfast item, but I always need/want something more substantial for breakfast. I’ve been doing it more (well, twice 🙂 ) for lunch and really like it with lunch!

    Your poor girls drink…love it

One reason I dont juice much anymore is that it does cost a fair amount to juice (if you save the pulp and make raw vegan pulp crackers and cookies that’s a bonus :)…but your juice looks great! And it’s cheap…the best kind of drink.

    Enjoy your Sat p.m.!

So I saw the other day that you had a pumpkin beer, and I was wondering: were you holding onto it from the holidays or can you actually buy it now where you are? I can’t find pumpkin stuff now, but I had a Pumpkinhead Ale rimmed with cinnamon/sugar as my first drink-at-a-bar a few months ago, and it was duhluscious. It’s not important what I had after that… hah.
