Dough Nut

IMG_1786-2

It’s been ages since I’ve made a Dough Boy Smoothie! But last night one was calling my name. The essence of them is that you make soaked overnight oats in the blender and turn it into a smoothie in the morning. The texture is thick like a doughy batter!

IMG_1787-2

My bowl was nearly overflowing! I made this recipe – Strawberry Cheesecake Dough Boy Smoothie – and topped it with blackberries, crushed graham cracker and sunflower butter (my coconut butter is doing a strange separation and I can’t get it to work – must melt it next time).

IMG_1788-2

Served with some freshly brewed cold coffee concentrate. Good!

Coffee-2

Have a bright and beautiful day!

I had overnight oats this morning and haven’t tried the dough boy smoothie yet… now I wish I still had them so that I could throw ’em in a blender! Oh well- there’s always tomorrow morning. 🙂
It looks like that smoothie is about to go overboard!

I really need to try this one day. Right now I love doing a quick, thick oat mixture with raw oats, protein powder, almond milk, and various flavors (pumpkin, cinnamin, etc.). I mix it into a think pudding and let it sit for an hour. Awesome doughy mix!

This looks and sounds perfect for this morning! I’ve been making my oats a little on the runnier side and then adding protein powder to the top of them and swirling it in. It makes doughy pieces in my oats! My favorite addition to that is blueberries (tastes like a blueberry muffin) and pumpkin!

Yum! Coincidentally,I had almost the same breakfast this morning! I had oats soaked overnight in unsweetened chocolate almond milk, and then blended with frozen banana, a fresh peach and a bit of flax. I even put sunflower butter on top!

Just got my all my wisdom teeth removed and have been living off these! I modified your recipe a little and actually use less oats, more goat whey instead of milk, greek yogurt, and no chia seeds (I’m afraid they’ll get in the holes!). Plus blended nectarine to go with the banana 🙂
Let’s just say they’ve been hitting the spot! Thanks for the inspiration and happy Tuesday!

That is a really cool idea. I’ve never made overnight oats, but I like the idea of eating something with a dough like consistency in the morning! Can you do overnight oats with steel cut oats or does it have to be rolled oats? Then, care you able to blend them to have the same result for the dough boy smoothie?

    Reply
    • KathEats says

      July 10, 2012 at 10:22 am

I don’t think the steel cut have the surface area to really absorb liquid enough to be soft in the AM – but if you’re going to blend them, then it might be fine?

Fill us in on the ratios for the brewed cold coffee concentrate that you’ve ended up with after you have it down to a science. I want to start doing it but not at 2/3 c ground coffee at a time…gets a little pricey!
