Déjà vu Food

IMG_9803Blog

When you find something good, ‘tis better not to stray too far away!

IMG_9804Blog

Tonight we repaid a visit to our new favorite restaurant, Commonwealth. Trip number one was just a few weeks ago with Anne P! This restaurant is just doing everything right. Ambiance, good service, amazing menu, local food support.

IMG_9812Blog

We loved last time’s Alexander Valley wine so much we got a bottle of the same again!

IMG_9808Blog

AND the same Lobster & Cod cakes! We generally are people who like to taste tons of different flavors, but these were just so good we couldn’t pass them up again.

IMG_9813Blog

For dinner I ordered a salad with avocado and goat cheese

IMG_9819Blog

And a side of red beans + chorizo. None of the entrees were calling my name, but these two were!

IMG_9822Blog

However Amanda’s pork and Matt’s steak were both outstanding! [We’re sharers]

IMG_9820BlogIMG_9821Blog

We can’t thank Amanda enough for her expertise and enthusiasm. The bakery’s lobby looks SO MUCH better now – full and styled!!

IMG_9805Blog

The three of us shared dessert – ‘cause it’s my birthday week and ‘cause it’s delicious!

This was a coconut custard and it was OUTSTANDING! Like a crab cake made of pure coconut with a coconut reduction on top. Loved it 100%!

IMG_9824Blog

And with that, on this balmy autumn night, I’m tucking myself in bed!

I say this as a compliment to you and not a complaint to your post tonight. I find your posts about your meals in your own home way more interesting. I just love reading them so much more. (I do love to go out to eat though, too). 🙂

Ha, I love when bloggers (or good at descriptions bloggers at least) post meals out! Partially because it makes my inner foodie happy and partially because we are so dang poor right now and it’s fun to live vicariously.

…not to say I don’t enjoy your at home posts too 🙂

I actually like the restaurant posts better! The meals are always more interesting to me…I do read the descriptions! Maybe it’s just because I love to go out to eat too. The oatmeal posts sort of run together for me, but I like seeing all the different restaurants you go to.

We share the mentality of “what’s mine is yours” when we eat out! You get to taste so many more things. There might be times when I may flash a look of “take that last bite and you won’t survive to see the check”…but only if it’s really good of course!
I may have flashed it for that custard.

Yum! Love the blog, Kath, (and read every post) but I must say that it bugs me a little bit when you give justifications for why you eat dessert or sweets…you did that in the post earlier in the day as well. Just curious: do you feel like you have to do this because this is a healthy living/real food blog and you don’t think that eating dessert regularly is consistent with the mission of your blog? I only ask because #1 I don’t think you eat too many sweets (your portion control is impressive) and #2 you look great and are obviously fit, so your diet is clearly working for you. I don’t think you need to justify it. But I could be reading more into it or reading it differently than you intend.

Don’t apologize! Commentary is definitely entertaining. I guess I just don’t get or like the idea of “guilt” around eating sweets/desserts, especially for some one who eats as overall healthy and balanced as you! And clearly I read more into it than you meant. You are right, you usually don’t do this — I just hope you don’t feel any pressure to because you are a healthy living blogger.

No guilt!!!! I’ve enjoyed every dessert I’ve put in my mouth 🙂 And despite the fact that I love veggies, am and RD and exercise regular, I don’t really consider myself a “healthy living blogger.” Yes I’m part of that niche, but that’s not what I think about when I write. I’m not trying to prove any examples or give exercise plans or meal plans or anything – I’m just eating and blogging my way through life.

I miss American restaurants!! I love ones in the UK too, but the ambience is totally different. I love the way US restaurants can be both swanky and informal – doesnt happen here!
Im also so with you on the sticking with a good thing. In fact my mantra – which my friends often repeat back to me is ‘stick with the formula’ !!!

I definitely have food envy over that coconut custard! I think I’m still searching for a restaurant that does everything right near me, but I may have found one (Oleana in Cambridge for any MA readers). But it’s kind of pricey so it’s a once-in-a-while treat for sure.

It’s balmy in Cville, huh? We got freezing rain and snow around Boston last night! Ugh.
