Dense

The husband came home from Great Harvest with another fabulous loaf of bread – and a blondie!!

DSC04593

This was the High Five Fiber bread and OMG was it good!! Their breads have a subtle sweetness that is addicting. As I usually do with a new product, I broke out the food scale to see how a slice came out. Each one is 2 oz!! That means for 1 sandwich it would be 320 calories-ish in bread alone. Albeit it’s a very healthy 320 calories, that’s an easy way to sneak them in, and definitely something to be aware of!

DSC04594

I couldn’t resist a bite of the blondie, which was ooey-gooey and amazing –

GOTR was indoors today, so I managed to stay dry at least for that part of the afternoon. We played games like guess the animal 🙂 Afterwards I had some time to go study and thought I’d try to find a coffee shop. I now know why people go to Starbucks. I went to a mom&pop shop and got the worst cup of decaf coffee I’ve ever tasted. It was brown water. So I exchanged it in for a hot tea. I was going to study there, but the atmosphere was not that nice at all, so I left. Kind of a waste of time and money!

DSC04596

I made my way to CPCC and then across campus in the rain with my tea in one hand and golf umbrella in the other = wet feet. Ugh. Finally I sat down to study and enjoy my sandwich.

It was an AWESOME sandwich!! 2 slices of the good bread, plus sabra hummus, cuc, pepper and spinach. I was skeptical that a single sandwich would cure my hunger, but it held me over for about 4 hours! Must have been the dense bread.

I also had some leftover green beans

My test went pretty well and lab was pretty painless. And next week is Fall Break so I’m off for 14 days!!!!!!!!!

Notice how I haven’t been having ice cream lately? That’s because we haven’t bought any. HUGE POINT: If it’s not in the house, you won’t eat it.

Well I came home tonight to find that Karen brought us over a carton of Breyers All Natural. And sure enough, I had to have some!! X2!!!!! I went back for a second little half cup = 1 cup total. It was too good.

Off to bed soon!

    Glad your test went well!

I would be in so much trouble if my husband worked at GH. I would be eating so much bread. I used to go to GH 2-3 times a week when I lived near one. Love their cinnamon rolls!

My food scale looks identical to your’s, except that it’s a Starfrit, not Salter.

I need to go buy me some really good fresh made bread. That loafs looks awesome.

    haya ,
Yeah, I know. I can think of a bunch of great small shops. But I was mad because I almost went to Starbucks but chose this one to be supportive. There was more I didn’t tell for time’s sake – like she messed up my tea order and it was TWICE as expensive as the coffee, etc. etc. I was just frustrated!

    Hi Kath,
I live in Seattle, and I eat Great Harvest Bread all the time!!! Amazing, huh? Our nutrition labels say that each slice of bread is 2 oz. but each slice is 120 cal. So 4 oz. (or 2 slices) would only be 240 cals, not 320. I looked it up online too on CalorieKing.com. I don’t think it’s too much worse than eating 2 packaged slices of bread…and it tastes a lot better!!! 🙂

    Carrie!,
I just went and looked at GreatHarvest.com and the High Fiber is 140 kcal per 2-oz slice. So you’re right that 280 is better than 320! The Dakota is 150 per 2 oz though, so it’s a little higher.

Cool you have one all the way on the Left Coast!

Wow, you get 14 days for fall break?! We don’t get one at all 🙁 In undergrad I did, but even then it was only 1 day (makes for a 3 day weekend though!). Lucky you!

    Bread…yummmmm…

    Hey Kath!

I have been following your blog for nearly a year now, but have never commented. First, I want to thank you for all of your dedication- you truly are an inspiration. Also, I came across a great “make your own cereal” website that I think you and many readers would like http://meandgoji.com/ I haven’t tried it myself as of yet, but am dying to try it out!

Wet feet are so uncomfortable! It poured all morning here in Ohio – on my soggy walk back from the gym I nearly stepped on a frog. My shoes are NOT waterproof – I shudder to think!

    Justy2003 ,
I think CPCC’s fall break is technically just 2-3 days but since my class is only once a week, I don’t have to go for 2 weeks from now 🙂

    kwaze ,
I haven’t tried it yet, but he made the pecan swirl yesterday and said it’s to-die-for.

    lara ,
Actually I rarely go to Starbucks. I usually get tea when I go, or occasionally a cappuccino or latte. I don’t really like the sweetened drinks. But I can’t wait to try the new oatmeal. I’m waiting until I need to try it like when I’m traveling or something. I don’t think it’s worth a trip there because I can guarantee mine at home is better 🙂

    chirunner ,
Thanks for the links!! Both were posted a few days ago too. I’d seen You Bars before and would like to make one but they are $40 a case and I’d rather try my bar before I devote that much $$ to it. But the cereal one looks AWESOME. Still expensive, but I’ve got it on my to-do list to play around with.

Very good point about the ice cream. I always read that if you say no once in the store, you don’t have to say no every time you want to eat it at home!

Thanks for showing the bread on the scale. Verrrry educational! I am glad I don’t have a food scale. hahaha.

I am super jealous of all the treats Matt will be bringing home, by the way. 🙂

I grew up eating Great Harvest Bread for special occasions, their rolls are great for the times you can’t quite squeeze in baking!

I have to admit I was sorely dissapointed when I realized that GH was a chain…I totally thought it was this speical Reno (where I grew up) only place. I got over it when I realized that meant I could have it wherever my life took me!
