Dean, Deluca and Kate

I had a fun lunch date today with blog reader “Kate(the teenager)”!! She lives down in South Carolina not too far down the road and we’ve been trying to do lunch since the spring. She and her mom came up to Charlotte for the day, so we met at Dean & Deluca for lunch. We had loads to talk about – she’s so mature for her age! We both share a love for running and the EarthFare salad bar

 this !

I got one of the famous D&D salads – with salmon on top. It was huuuuuuuuge!! The outcome of these salads really depends on who is building them. Since I usually get a little of everything (except onions!) sometimes I literally get one of everything and other times I get 5 of everything. In the past I’ve easily polished off a whole medium box, but today I ate the top 1/3 and brought the rest home for lunch.

Toppings:

  • Spinach + mixed greens
  • Snap peas
  • Garbanzo beans
  • Carrots
  • Roasted veggies
  • Olives
  • Artichoke
  • Sun-dried tomato
  • Mushrooms
  • Mandarin oranges
  • Broccoli
  • Salmon
  • Goat cheese
  • Pear dressing on the side (which I barely touched)

Before:

After:

I left one of the two pieces of salmon and most of the base to have for lunch tomorrow or Sunday.

And a sample of SaraBeth’s Raspberry-Stawberry Jam! Since I got in trouble for whipping out my camera last week I didn’t take photos of the other two samples I had: 2 toffee pieces and a white chocolate pretzel ball for dessert. Gotta take advantage of the free desserts!

I’m wrapping up things on my to-do list and plan to finish my Jennifer Weiner book today. We’ve got a fun vegetabl-y dinner planned too 🙂

That salad looks delicious! I had a very disappointing salad for lunch today, so it’s nice to see that someone else had a very craveable one!

You have to love the free samples at Dean & Deluca. They always have the best, although sometimes Whole Foods has good ones too!

That salad looks SOOO GOOD. I just had a dinky, poor-excuse-for-a-salad at our work cafeteria today. 🙁

You have a Sarabeth’s down there too? I’ve been to the one in NYC three times – the brunch is to die for! If you ever come up here, you must try it! 🙂

Suzanne I seriously LIVE for Sarabeth’s brunch (smoked salmon + cc eggs)… I visit family in NYC once a year and make sure to go there. If we had one where I live…. omg….

What was their reason for not wanting you to take a pic? I have yet to have any problems with that but I sometimes wonder what people are thinking when they see me whip out my camera. My husband gets a kick out of it – he is really good at reminding me to snap a shot before digging in.

    Lookin’ good, Kath!

I’m pretty sure I could live by salad bar alone… and sometimes I do tend to…

The best thing about being fit – you can wear dresses from 10 years ago! The dress is really cute 🙂

I almost got in trouble for whipping out my camera today in Chipotle. There was a guy sitting at the next table in front of me with a Georgia Tech Crew (rowing) Tshirt on. I had had had to get a picture of it. Since my mama was sitting in front of me I made it look like I was taking a picture of her, not the guy’s Tshirt (and his girlfriend, who i think noticed me!)

A lot of stores nix photos because they think it’s their competitors taking notes…that, or they have trademarked/copyrighted stuff that they don’t want people to photograph.

Hey Kath, I am also a dietetics student and I was just wondering, how did you get hooked up with the dietitian to shadow her? Did you meet her at school, or did you find her on the ADA website and e-mail her? Thanks!

Thanks for the dress/hair compliments 🙂

    caitlinbo ,
I think they are weird about non-professional photos of the store. Other brands have the same rules. I think I just have to be more discreet next time!

    Kelley,
I asked one of my professors (who manages the internship) for recommendations. She put me in touch with a student from a few years ago since she knows where all the former students work who stayed in Charlotte. So perhaps try your program head?
