Cream, Beans + Greens

Lyss was the first to guess right!

IMG_4949

Free cone day!! When my lunch left me wanting something more I turned to yogurt. And then I thought about ice cream and remembered from Tina’s post that it’ was the big day. As soon as Matt got home I announced we were going 🙂

Being prime after-school hour, there was a long line….

IMG_4947

But I was patient… It only took us about 20 minutes to get in.

IMG_4951

OH THE CHOICES!!!!!!!! I actually really like the Yogurt Fudge Brownie, but the last time we went here Nate, who always chooses the best foods in restaurants, got the Oatmeal Cookie Chunk and was kind enough to let me taste it. He was right – it was the best. So that’s what I got today! Oatmeal was the most blog appropriate too

I got it in a cone, in a cup. Maximum taste + maximum eating slowly.

IMG_4952

He got the usual: peanut butter covered in peanut butter in peanut butter cookie dough.

IMG_4954

Dinner more than made up for my sub-par lunch!

Beans + Greens

IMG_4957

+ Cinnamon SP Fries in Maple Syrup!

IMG_4960

We cooked some bacon + garlic, added chicken broth, 1 cup cooked beans and a huge bunch of trimmed + washed turnip greens to a pot = all cooked together. Finished with a drizzle of maple to go with the mataters.

IMG_4956

These guys were sliced, put on a bed of foiled, sprayed with canola cooking spray, sprinkled with cinnamon and cooked for 20 minutes on one slide, flipped and 10 on the other at 425*. PERFECTION!

IMG_4959

IMG_4958

IMG_4955

While the oven was hot, Matt put some leftover bread cubes in to make some croutons. Tossed in a little oil, salt and pepper and toasted for 15 minutes or so. Can’t WAIT to eat more of these!

IMG_4961

I just had a spark of motivation to work on my oatmeal paper. Hope it lasts!!

    my sister in law’s recipe:

makes 4 small crab cakes (each cake about the size of a poached egg)

2 cans lump crab meat (drained & dried really well with paper towels)
    1 egg
    old bay seasons
    finely chopped scallions
    finely chopped dill
    salt & pepper

heat 1/4 inch olive oil to medium high.
    mix all ingredients.
    form into pucks.
using a spatula carefully slide cakes into oil (will easily break).
cook 5 minutes on each side.

    enjoy 🙂

she says the most important part is to dry the crab really well.

also, thanks for your response. I think I may be eating my lunch wayyyy too early and then i eat my snack at lunch and then i’m stuck. thanks for your tips.

I worked at Ben & Jerry’s for a couple of summers. Oatmeal Cookie is so good – it was really exciting in the store when that flavor came out. I probably had a few too many tastes… Also, peanut butter ice cream may be tasty but it is a pain to scoop! Something about the peanut butter makes the ice cream a little crumbly so it is difficult to make nice round scoops. I wish there was a Ben & Jerry’s near me so I could get a free cone – enjoy your treat!

I got my free ice cream cone too, but luckily there was no line!! I was mentally prepared for a line though, I was raised by my mommy to go out of my way for free things!! 🙂 Then right after the ice cream I got my $0.50 iced coffee from Dunkin Donuts!! While there I saw that on April 29th will be $0.31 scoop night at Baskin Robbins! I’ll be sure to be there too!!

I love free ice cream in theory, but I HATE waiting in lines so I can’t imagine even hanging on for 20 minutes. 31 cent scoop night at Baskin Robbins is coming up soon too, but I’d rather pay the $2 (or whatever they charge now) and go another night to avoid the lines 🙂
