Compromises Of Marriage

Nothing major, just breakfast

 this !

We decided to go to the gym first thing last night, so we set the alarm for 7:30 and were on our way by 8. Since it was warm out and the skies were mostly dry, we biked. I did a nice 30 minutes on the Stepmill with Health and then pullups, pushups and abs at the end, followed by our bike ride home. Nice way to start the day! I think if I had my choice of a routine to follow for the rest of my life I’d prefer a yoga, oatmeal then workout schedule, but whenever I workout first, it’s always so nice.

So on the way home the husband pronounced a craving for eggs. While I was already excited about oatmeal, poached eggs on his amazing bread did sound appealing, so I agreed.

We used Karen’s microwave method to poach the eggs – a splash of water in the bottom of a ramekin and cook on power level 4 for 60 seconds. Our microwave is slightly different and we tried a few different time/water combos on our 3 eggs. It method worked perfectly – too perfectly, as my egg was overcooked (to my runny yolk standards). I think had we let it “rest” instead of giving it 10 more seconds it might have worked. But it was a quick and easy alternative.

DSC08136

I had half a bosc pear with my egg as well as a nice yogurt dish – my oatmeal compromise. Underneath the Kashi GoLean Crunch is a tbsp of pumpkin butter.

I love having a later breakfast because it means I need fewer snacks throughout the day, but it does mess with my eating schedule a bit. I am totally full now so I don’t know when I’ll have lunch – perhaps around 2? But the thought of it now is unappealing!

We’ve got another murky day out there. Today is the husband’s last day off, so we’re hoping to spend time together at home today. He’s working the rest of the week (including the weekend) and next week I’m back to my classes 😥

Those of you back at work today – I hope your workday goes by fast!

Your egg look good, despite the non-runniness of the yolk.

Have fun with the husband today!

Your breakfast looks great! I’ve actually never had a poached egg before.

If anybody’s interested, I recently started a cooking/baking blog as I experiment and try to learn to cook for my husband of 7 months 🙂 Check it out if you get a chance, I’d love to hear anyone’s thoughts!

I usually eat a late breakfast with a 2 pm lunch. You are right, it does lead to less snacks, but it just always feels a little off. Oh well, we do what works, right?

    Have a great day!

i would not have guessed that egg was microwaved. Do you cover the egg? I loved poached eggs and eat something similar, I add a little spinach or arugula under my egg. It’s been in the 30’s at night here, but I like cold weather 🙂

yummy! I loooove poached eggs on toast! I really love eggs benedict but it’s just a special occasion treat for me now because of the hollandaise…
what are the little green specks? did they add to the taste or was it just for color?

Best wishes and happy new year!! 🙂

the microwave!!!! how smart. karen has a great method it seems. i have still not been successful in poaching eggs, so i look forward to trying that method.

we did register for little poaching cups from crate and barrel though, so hopefully someone will want to buy them for us and we can do it that way. they say it is really easy to use.

enjoy your last week of freedom!

I like the quick and easy method of poaching an egg – will have to remember that in the future (I will admit that I had to google ramekin just so I knew what exactly you were talking about!) 🙂

Enjoy your day off with the husband!

ok i have not commented in forever but I found these new granola bars @ the store today and had to tell some people….

Kashi has a new line of fruit and grain w/ 3 flavors…

    dark chocolate coconut
    pumpkin pie
    dark chocolate raspberry

These are not even on Kashi’s website yet and I can’t find anything about them in a google search. I found them @ Super Target..I got the dark choc coconut, can’t wait to try the pumpkin pie!

I’ve tried the pumpkin pie. It’s actually a little spicier than I’d prefer. The bars are TINY, too–much smaller than their TLC granola bars. I’m not sure I’d buy these again.

But I do highly recommend their new frozen dinner “Mayan Harvest.” It’s quite flavorful, even though it fills up my appetizer plate and nothing bigger for 340 calories. Enjoy with a side dish, I guess.

    WendyF ,
No, I did not cover the egg.

    zestycook ,
So sorry to hear about the tooth! Yikes! Hope things start getting better for you up there 🙁

    Mandy A,
The mini Larabars are not sold in stores – I HAVE NO IDEA WHY – because tons of people would buy them!!! Most of us have snagged them from races we’ve ran (mine were at the Jingle Jog, but only there b/c of the Thunder Road Marathon).

    Ash ,
Thanks for the head’s up!! Those flavors sound awesome – I’ll keep my eye out.

Kath, check out this Nordicware microwave container for poaching eggs. I got mine at Target, and it works well. Having the cover allows them to steam for a minute or two after you finish cooking. http://www.amazon.com/Nordic-Ware-2-Cavity-Microwave-Poacher/dp/B00004W4UR/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1231208958&sr=8-2
