You are here: Home / Weekend / Cold Winter Night?

Cold Winter Night?

This evening had all the makings of a cold winter night. I totally blew off CardioFunk. I wasn’t in the mood to “break it down” because it was cold and cloudy. The husband and I decided we’d just go do a normal workout, but then I was freezing and didn’t want to leave my chilly house to go through the even colder weather to get into the gym (and you can imagine the look I gave him when he suggested we bike there!). The husband pointed out that the only time I am hot each day is while I’m working out, but that was still not enough motivation. So I stayed home and bundled up. And then of all movies, we watched Trans-Siberian. That was 4 hours ago. Now my computer tells me it’s 57* out there!?!??! Guess it’s getting warmer by the minute. I don’t know why I was so cold this afternoon!

57

While we were playing hookie, we made one of the best pizzas we ever have!!

DSC08120

The husband made some spelt sourdough dough to use as the base. We topped the crust with some tomato paste, sauteed mushrooms and green pepper, some chorizo from World Market my mom got him for Christmas, Mexican cheese and parmesan.

DSC08128

Of course the crust was the star of the show –

DSC08127

I made a big salad to go with it. Romaine, broccoli, cauliflower, carrot, pepper and walnuts – all drizzled in my sister and Matt’s Xmas gift of Fig Balsamic Vinegar and Lemon Olive Oil. SO WONDERFUL!

I couldn’t resist a half a slice more!

This afternoon I experimented with lots of blog themes on a test site and came to a conclusion: I think they are too advanced for me! Perhaps I should just keep KERF as is.

Karen dropped off Trans-Siberian. (She loves thrillers!) It was actually really good – but REALLY scary!!! Trans-Siberian and Valkyrie were both movies that I never would have gone to see or rented but I enjoyed both of them a lot.

I’m off to absorb more of the arts in book form ๐Ÿ™‚

I have been FREEZING too!! And it’s really not even THAT cold here. But last night it took me two hours to get to sleep, I tossed and turned until I added another blanket ๐Ÿ™ Hope you enjoyed your snuggly afternoon!

mmm, FANTASTIC-looking pizza! and the salad looks great as well.

as for the rest day (i think?) — it’s probably a good thing once in a while. sometimes i know my body just needs time to be lazy and recover from what i put it through the rest of the time!

it is warm here too 2.5 hrs east — but rainy and gloomy. i can’t decide which is better, rain + warm or sun + cold! i did run outside in shorts again today, though, so . . . can’t complain too much.

MMM that pizza looks amazing! We made some really good pizza the other day with TJs whole wheat dough, balsamic, arugula, goat cheese, and figs (recipe from a Runner’s World a few mos ago).

Also, good for you for going with how you felt and having an “active rest” (yoga) day. Sometimes a cozy day relaxing really beats some gym time!!

    Hi Kath,

Love your blog, but I have to say, I would KILL for 57* right now! We had a high today of 14*. It’s been downhill from there since about 2pm today.

Ohhh, 57*, to feel you again…in April! :o)

Your pizza looks amazing! Even before you wrote that the crust was the star, I was thinking “Man, that crust looks wonderful!”. I’m impressed with its rise. Whenever I make bread with a whole wheat or add wheat germ, I never get a good rise. I’ve read that it’s because the whole grain flours can have sharp edges that break the gluten strands. But, I’m not sure that’s totaly true.

Pizza looks delicious. That is one thing I never make at home. Don’t know why as I love it so and could add my own healthy twist. Maybe I’ll try it soon, although my husband will have no hand in the crust making. ๐Ÿ™‚

    Emily + polly ,
Matt reports that the crust was just a mix (50/50) of two of his bread doughs rolled into a pizza crust. Sorry it’s a bit complicated.

That pizza looks amazing. I love to make pizza but usually stick to a whole wheat crust. It’s healthy and good, but never the “star of the show.”
