This evening had all the makings of a cold winter night. I totally blew off CardioFunk. I wasn’t in the mood to “break it down” because it was cold and cloudy. The husband and I decided we’d just go do a normal workout, but then I was freezing and didn’t want to leave my chilly house to go through the even colder weather to get into the gym (and you can imagine the look I gave him when he suggested we bike there!). The husband pointed out that the only time I am hot each day is while I’m working out, but that was still not enough motivation. So I stayed home and bundled up. And then of all movies, we watched Trans-Siberian. That was 4 hours ago. Now my computer tells me it’s 57* out there!?!??! Guess it’s getting warmer by the minute. I don’t know why I was so cold this afternoon!
While we were playing hookie, we made one of the best pizzas we ever have!!
The husband made some spelt sourdough dough to use as the base. We topped the crust with some tomato paste, sauteed mushrooms and green pepper, some chorizo from World Market my mom got him for Christmas, Mexican cheese and parmesan.
Of course the crust was the star of the show –
I made a big salad to go with it. Romaine, broccoli, cauliflower, carrot, pepper and walnuts – all drizzled in my sister and Matt’s Xmas gift of Fig Balsamic Vinegar and Lemon Olive Oil. SO WONDERFUL!
I couldn’t resist a half a slice more!
This afternoon I experimented with lots of blog themes on a test site and came to a conclusion: I think they are too advanced for me! Perhaps I should just keep KERF as is.
Karen dropped off Trans-Siberian. (She loves thrillers!) It was actually really good – but REALLY scary!!! Trans-Siberian and Valkyrie were both movies that I never would have gone to see or rented but I enjoyed both of them a lot.
I’m off to absorb more of the arts in book form 🙂
I have been FREEZING too!! And it’s really not even THAT cold here. But last night it took me two hours to get to sleep, I tossed and turned until I added another blanket 🙁 Hope you enjoyed your snuggly afternoon!
I’ve been nice and toasty warm here in Houston! However tomorrow will be another story…the high is like 45* 🙁
Oh, and I like KERF as is 😀
Great lookin’ pizza!!
PIZZA looks amazing! Matt send me some dough…. WOW
It’s been warm here! I’m ready for some cooler weather. I think that Trans-Siberian sounds REALLY good…gonna have to remember that one.
mmm, FANTASTIC-looking pizza! and the salad looks great as well.
as for the rest day (i think?) — it’s probably a good thing once in a while. sometimes i know my body just needs time to be lazy and recover from what i put it through the rest of the time!
it is warm here too 2.5 hrs east — but rainy and gloomy. i can’t decide which is better, rain + warm or sun + cold! i did run outside in shorts again today, though, so . . . can’t complain too much.
Fellow north carolinian here.
My assesment: This weather stinks! I need a sunny outdoor run ASAP!
In other news…the pizza looks delicious! spelt crust = amazing.
Good for you for taking a day off! You deserve it!!
Ooh, could you share the recipe for the crust?
mmmm that pizza looks so good!!!
Kath, rest days are awesome! (today was one for me!) plus you did yoga! 😉 That crust looks so amazing. Can the hub post the recipe for the spelt crust? yummers! XOXO
Talk about perfect crust!
That pizza looks amazing! I bet it was the best.
I hate going out in the cold as well. I always run to the car and it HAS to be warmed up before I get it. haha
Mmm … I’m a huge pizza gal!! Looks amazing!
That pizza looks so delicious!
Girl, I’m all about workout hookie sometimes. Cheers for choosing to stay at home and spend qt time with the hubby making fun food!
pizza looks amazing……. Matt open store. 38 here in Ohio. I’m always cold !!!
Oh I hate being cold. I have been freezing for the last two days!
Pizza looks great.
MMM that pizza looks amazing! We made some really good pizza the other day with TJs whole wheat dough, balsamic, arugula, goat cheese, and figs (recipe from a Runner’s World a few mos ago).
Also, good for you for going with how you felt and having an “active rest” (yoga) day. Sometimes a cozy day relaxing really beats some gym time!!

Yum to homemade pizza!
Love your blog, but I have to say, I would KILL for 57* right now! We had a high today of 14*. It’s been downhill from there since about 2pm today.
Ohhh, 57*, to feel you again…in April! :o)
Your pizza looks amazing! Even before you wrote that the crust was the star, I was thinking “Man, that crust looks wonderful!”. I’m impressed with its rise. Whenever I make bread with a whole wheat or add wheat germ, I never get a good rise. I’ve read that it’s because the whole grain flours can have sharp edges that break the gluten strands. But, I’m not sure that’s totaly true.

Pizza looks delicious. That is one thing I never make at home. Don’t know why as I love it so and could add my own healthy twist. Maybe I’ll try it soon, although my husband will have no hand in the crust making. 🙂
Enjoy your book Kath!
Love homemade pizza!
I like KERF as it is. It scared me the other day when it was all black and funky?
I thought I had gotten to the wrong blog!
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!
The pizza looks and sounds amazing and so does that salad! Way to take a warm breather!

Anyway, i just ate cold pizaa and it wasnt anywhere near what you had. i have pizza envy.
Trans-Siberian is one of the movies that you can download for free if you have an X-Box. Haven’t seen it yet, but now, maybe I will 🙂
I am getting so jealous of your access to delicious bread!! Those grilled dough/pitas you had the other day looked great and now the pizza dough! yummmmm…
Oi, I know how you feel about the cold weather! It was a high of 21 degrees today! Your weather sounds so warm to me, I’m jealous! 😉
Just wanted to say that I have been following your blog for a while, and really have enjoyed it!
You and Jenna have inspired me to give cooking and blogging a shot – I hope you don’t mind that I added you to my blog roll.
Hope you have a fabulous day!

Love Cost Plus, love the pizza and love KERF the way it is!
i’m also always freezing…but then again, i have hypothyroidism. don’t want to alarm women out there, but if any KERF readers have the other symptoms, go get checked out. so many women have it, although my apologies for using your mention of being cold as a PSA!
YUM! that pizza and salad looks wonderful!!! 🙂
The pizza looks amazing – minus the mushrooms for me. 😀
That crust sounds AMAZING! Sourdough?! Yes, please 🙂
I don’t think you should change a thing! I was actually traumatized when you changed the brusque sprouts picture but I’ve since recovered.
That dough looks so doughy.
You must have sent the cold weather down to TX!
That pizza looks amazing. You’re so lucky to have an in-house bread baker 🙂

Pizza looks delicious! It is always nice to take off from the gym when it is freezing out!!!
Emily + polly ,
Matt reports that the crust was just a mix (50/50) of two of his bread doughs rolled into a pizza crust. Sorry it’s a bit complicated.
Pizza making technique
Thanks Ali !
Good PSA. I had mine checked last year but it was normal.
I have “cold days” as well.
That pizza looks amazing. I love to make pizza but usually stick to a whole wheat crust. It’s healthy and good, but never the “star of the show.”
