Comedy Club

Alliebars are back! She brought me a few at the HLS 🙂

Had one for a snack today. 100% crunchy delicious. The secret is in the salt. And the pecans. But no one knows the recipe!

IMG_0327 (640x426)

I worked for a lot of the afternoon…but finally got around to making pesto!

Fresh KERF farmed basil – about 2 cups lightly packed

IMG_0333 (640x427) (2)

Half a triangle block of Pecorino Romano (not sure why Matt got this over Parm)

IMG_0331 (640x427) (2)

GOLDEN – about a tbsp

IMG_0334 (640x427) (2)

Sea salt

IMG_0335 (640x427) (2)

‘Bout a quarter cup of walnuts

IMG_0337 (426x640)

IMG_0330 (640x427) (2)

Whirl it up! It tasted different tonight – rich instead of bright? Not sure why!

IMG_0338 (640x427) (2)

Pasta made an appearance.

IMG_0366 (640x427) (2)

Specifically…

Pesto Shrimp + Veggies over Whole Wheat Angel Hair

IMG_0370 (640x427)

Veggies included green peppers, fresh mater, zucchini

IMG_0340 (640x427) (2)

10 jumbo USA wild shrimp

IMG_0341 (640x427) (2)

Tongs and more Garlic Gold

IMG_0345 (427x640)

Once you put the shrimp in, WALK AWAY. Alton Brown will haunt you if you don’t!

IMG_0346 (640x427) (2)

My impression of Alton Brown chewing:

IMG_0347 (640x427) (2)

More acting:

YOU MUST PAY THE RENT

IMG_0356 (640x422)

I CAN’T PAY THE RENT

IMG_0355 (640x427) (3)

I’LL PAY THE RENT

IMG_0353 (640x427) (3)

MY HERO!

My personal hero fancied up the dish with more Garlic nuggets –

IMG_0357 (640x427) (3)

Some more grated cheese

IMG_0360 (640x427) (3)

And a sprig of basil

IMG_0374 (640x427) (2)

We thought this was two portions, but it turned out to be about 4!

IMG_0361 (640x427) (3)

KERFs:

IMG_0383 (640x427) (2)

The leftovers

IMG_0381 (640x427) (2)

Bubbles make everything fancier (although I would have killed for some chardonnay with this meal!)

IMG_0385 (640x427) (2)

Also, my new gold placemats I won during Sabrina’s HLS talk on entertaining!

IMG_0382 (640x418)

An hour later… chocolates.

IMG_0391 (640x427) (2)

There are now 3 chocolates with a single nibble out of them. Yes, I’m one of those people.

IMG_0389 (640x427) (2)

I am either going to watch So You Think You Can Dance or read my book. Still undecided!

I also might play around with the KERF Theme design. Now that I FINALLY have time to work on the blog again! I hope to update many of the pages and do some minor upgrades to things. As Scar would say…"Be Pre–pared"

Nite.

The pesto looks great! If you have more basil and want to try something a little different, FatFree Vegan Kitchen has a great recipe for an eggplant pesto that I made today. You could try it out and alter it to your taste – I was pleased with the original recipe.

The main reason I had to leave a comment is because you quoted Scar. The Lion King is my all-time favorite Disney movie, hands down. What’s yours?

And by the way, I like the orange up top and I think it’s really awesome how you can/did change the one button from “Kath” to “Kath, RD.” Congrats again. 😉

Whole wheat angel hair makes a great pesto base. Pasta serving size is a tricky one. I’ve pretty much got it down for the angel hair, but not for the pasta we eat less often, like rotini and penne.

    Fun post tonight.

If you washed the basil first, that may be why the color was more rich. Basil changes color – to a deeper green – after it’s been washed. And we usually choose romano over parmesan cheese because it’s much more reasonably priced; maybe that’s why Matt picked it too.

the pesto is “richer” rather than “brighter” because there is no lemon juice! We sub 1/2 our olive oil for freshly squeezed lemon juice and it produces SUCH a happy flavor!

Gail Ambrosius chocolates are the best! I live here in Madison WI, and get them often at the coffee shop next to my office 🙂 Glad to see they made their way down south!

Ahaha. My grandma used to do the “I can’t pay the rent” thing when my siblings and I were little. Also, I’ve been craving shrimp lately and mmmm… That is all.

Your pasta dish look SO GOOD! Seriously looks restaurant quality!! Nice work KERF 😉 I will have to recreate this with some ‘what’s cookin’ flare.

Did you use walnuts the last time you made pesto? That would certainly make it taste rich vs. the “brightness” of pine nuts.
