Chat-Shop-athalon

One of my favorite things about the weekends is turning activities + todos into a workout. I didn’t really have much planned that could be one, so I invented things.

First I went on a walk while I called my mom and grandparents to chat. I ended up walking for over an hour, and it was glorious.

Then I decided I should run an errand by bike, so I biked to Target + Old Navy! It’s about 2.5 miles away and not in the prettiest strip of town, so I don’t bike there often. But today it was great. I went to Old Navy first to look for $15 dresses (a big sale) but came home with only a sports top on sale. I ran between the two stores to get my HR up. (Probably looked funny with my bookbag bouncing on my shoulders). I picked up some necessities at Target, including new headbands (mine broke in Bermuda) and my very first OPI!!! In the color Royal Flush Blush.

I wasn’t really that hungry for lunch around 2:30 but I knew it was time to eat deep down. I decided on a Latin dish –

IMG_7241 (1024x768)

  • 1/2 cup pinto beans
  • 1/2 cup cooked millet
  • 1/3 cup ea. chopped green pepper and cuc
  • 1/2 cup pineapple
  • 1/4 cup avocado
  • Taste salsa and plain yogurt
  • Salt, pepper, red pepper flakes, sriratcha

IMG_7238 (1024x768)

I heated it all up in the microwave.

IMG_7239 (1024x768)

I do NOT like salsa because of the onions, but after that delicious Newman’s Own Peach, I decided to try another salsa from them. BLECH – the regular was gross and onion-y.

With a seltzer

IMG_7237 (1024x768)

I wanted a little something sweet to get rid of the onions, so I checked my sweet drawer and remembered that Mara had sent me two raw cookies. I tried the Chocolate Macaroon. Delish!

In just a few hours we are biking to Kate + Nate’s, where we’ll depart for a night out on the town with a bunch of our friends. We’re also having a slumber party with Gilbert, so I’m not sure if I’ll be blogging this evening or not. Most likely, yes, but if you don’t hear from me, something with my laptop went wrong or I decided not to take it. I’ll be back in the AM with a full report of the evening and group oatmeal buffet!

xoxo

Have you ever tried making your own salsa? My dad always makes us it and doesn’t use any onions!

Ahhh, that chocolate macaroon looks SO GOOD. But I’m definitely sorry the salsa wasn’t to your taste at all (I’m a fan of onions, haha).

Have fun at your night out!

Chopped veggies and fruit – what a great lunch! This reminds me that I need to go to the market to refill the fridge.

And I wasn’t aware that there are pre-packaged raw cookies available. I should look harder at the whole foods to find them.

    Enjoy your evening!!

Love turning errands into exercise! Steve and I do that a lot. We really like walking to the grocery store to pick up some things if its a light(er) load. I find it gives us a chance to chat and catch up too!! Life can just get so busy sometimes!

Newman’s Own makes a really yummy pineapple salsa also! Can’t taste any onion, I really don’t like their regular salsa either, and I don’t mind the oniony taste, but theirs is way too strong!

i have a quick question: whenever you write like the ingredients that you put into salads or like that bowl up there, you put measurements. do you actually measure or are they just rough approximations? thanks!:)

    Oatmeal buffet! Sounds delightful.

I also suggest checking out fruit salsas. Or why not just make your own? Absolutely no chance of weird oniony taste then!

That is so great that you can bike and do your errands at the same time! It not only provides you with a workout but helps the environment as well. Now that’s what I call multi-tasking!

    april ,
Yes, and it’s wonderful! I just haven’t had the time.

    ari ,
Most of the time they are rough estimates. I do often measure things like cereal – since it’s so hard to eyeball a cup of granola. But when I say a “half cup of pineapple” it was just a guess.

    Evanna ,
    Thanks!
