Bugs + Burgers

Hola!

ServSafe Day II is going by fast. Wish I could take the test and be certified but I didn’t have the chance to pay for it so I am just a fly on the wall…er that’s unsanitary! We learned all about bugs ( the creepy crawly kind) before lunch. Aparently if you see a German cockroach in the daytime you have a serious problem. Goodness knows how many I’ve seen on the KERF Farm!

Lunch today was a hot dog and hamburger bar with chili, potatoes, fruit and cookies. A little bird told me this yesterday so I brought a yogurt to have instead of a burger/dog. Practicing some ethical eating.

I made a great little salad with burger condiments (lettuce, tomato, pickle), potatoes and hot sauce! (Went back for a few more taters!)

Plus a pile of fruit and my Stonyfield Pumpkin Pie yogurt, which I garnished with some almonds from my bag at the last minute. Yum!

Skipped a cookie today cause I tasted them yesterday 🙂

Soooooooooo excited for the weekend! I’m calling it the KERF Spa Weekend and my plans include: a workout, a bubble bath, kale and sweet potato, yoga, a new pancake, juice, A MASSAGE, a movie, grocery shopping, pumpkin (I’ve been out for a week!) and my longest run to date.

Wheeeeeeeeeeee!

Hey Alison! I’m guessing that Kath got hers at AT&T. Your friend can get the 3Gs at AT&T or Apple, BUT (major but), it probably won’t be $199 if you don’t sign up for a contract when you buy it.

While I am not an entomologist, I do work at an insect/invertebrate zoo and have pretty decent roach identification skills. Going by the roach pics you’ve posted on the blog (ones you’ve seen in your house), I’m pretty sure they are American cockroaches, not the dreaded German ones. (Why exactly is it so bad to see German roaches in the daytime? I’d love to know!)

I eat them, but I’m working to eat mostly organic/sustainable meats. I still eat meat in restaurants or when I’m a guest at a house that isn’t organic, but since I had the option of bringing a yogurt today, I chose to do that.

I am just wondering if your meals fill you up. You seem to work out A LOT, and a lot of your times your meals do seem wholesome, but other times they seem kind of small, like today for example. I am just wondering if it fills you up! I am just trying to figure out how I should eat with my amount of exercise. Does this make sense?

Hey K, today’s lunch was small (cause I was kinda stuck in a pinch) and I did get hungrier earlier than normal. But yesterday’s lunch was sizeable and kept me full all afternoon. I usually have a big breakfast, a medium lunch, a 200-ish calorie snack and a medium-to-small dinner. I’ve found that schedule works really well for me. If my lunches do seem small to you, I think in terms of calories per day I’m getting plenty.

    Love your lunch combo, Kath!!

Your school meals have gotten me thinking more about food in schools. I think that our areas schools are really doing better than most in providing healthier options. But, some definitely don’t seem to be making much progress.

If you haven’t seen it, you might be interested in this blog- Fed Up: The School Lunch Project. A teacher is eating school lunch every day and blogging the meals. It is eye-opening.
