Bluesday

Mornin’ all. What a relief this day off is – perfect timing for all of my tests.

I started the day with Blueberry Banana Oatmeal :

  • 1/3 cup prepared banana oatmeal rehydrated with splash hemp milk
  • 1/2 extra banana
  • 1/3 cup-ish blueberries
  • 1/4 blueberry granola plank (definitely need to go buy more of these when this one is gone!)
  • Spoonful PB

Today’s agenda:

8-9:30 : Write Paper

9:30-11:00 : Study Sports Nutrition

11:00-12:30 : Workout, Shower

12:30-1:30 : Lunch break

1:30-2:30 : Study Labs

2:30-3:00 : Commute uptown

3:00-4:30 : Take Chem Lab exam

4:30-5:00 : Commute home

5:00 onward : Dinner + More Sports Studying

I hate studying because you never know when to stop!

Good luck on your exam! How nice that your other 2 classes got cancelled. I love when a chunk of free time opens up – it’s the best feeling. 🙂

I have a weight loss question: I have maintained the same healthy eating habits for the last few years, and have recently added kickboxing 3 times a week and a session with a personal trainer to my exercise routine. On the other days, I run on the treadmill or do a workout dvd at home.

The problem is I have trying to lose about 10-12 lbs, but I see no results. Is there anything else I can do to kickstart some weight loss? Am I missing something?

It is so frustrating because I think I workout a lot, and was expecting the pounds to fly off. 🙁

Any advice (from you or other fellow readers) would be most appreciated! Thank you!

Hey does anyone know how long defrosted fish good in the fridge for? I defrosted some fish saturday night and event threw it in the oven for abour 3-5 minutes and then decided to wait to cook it so it’s been sitting in the fridge since then and I’m wondering if it’s still good to coo today. Thanks!

oooo i second angelcubbie’s question. I always have trouble planning ahead, so that fish i want to eat the next night usually gets pushed back a day or two, or i throw it out. whats the fridgelife?

    angelcubbie –

I would throw it out. I looked it up on the net and it says fresh fresh lasts 1-2 days in the fridge. You did cook it for a few minutes, but I would still consider it fresh fish (since you put it in the fridge after it was defrosted).

If it were me, I wouldn’t take the chance. I’m a stickler for expiration dates!

Suzanne—Do you know roughly how many calories you’re consuming? Sometimes people don’t consume *enough* calories to lose weight, and that can cause your body to hang on to each calorie it gets.

It sounds like you’ve really boosted your workout routine which could mean your body needs more fuel…

Of course, the opposite could be true as well, if there are excess calories. It might be a good idea to track what you’re eating on a notebook for a few days to get a general idea of where you are in you calorie range (without having to get too obsessive over it).

    Good luck! 🙂

can you do a video or just a special post on all your ideas for oatmeal, including the prep of wheatberries and such. i’m actually intimidated to start eating oatmeal, because although it looks so awesome up here- it seems complicated!

I totally admire the way you schedule your studying sessions. If only I could do that! I have a major exam coming up next week and I am so not organized. I just study all over the place… yet I am afraid now it’s too late to start organizing, I might confuse myself even more. 🙂

    angelcubbie,

I’d probably eat it, but reluctantly. I saw recently somebody recommending you eat fish the day you buy it/defrost it.

Give it a smell (shouldn’t smell fishy) and a squeeze (should still be quite firm).

angelcubbie and others – I frequently buy frozen fish and all the packages say to use it immediately upon defrosting. I would MAYBE leave it in the fridge for a day beyond that, but that’s it.

I also hate figuring out how much time to study. You never if it will be enough until you are finished with the exam, and even then, if you get an awesome grade and think you could have studied less and got the same grade, it could just be that you studied the right amount…. or that you could study less… the world may never know

haha…I am already obsessed with calorie counting. I record everything I eat and how much I exercise on Fitday. So I know I estimate around 1800 to 2000 calories a day. So I’m pretty sure I’m getting enough calories. That’s why I am frustrated – because I think I have a good handle on everything, but don’t see results.

    Thanks for your advice! 🙂

I just had my first batch of wheatberries today! They turned out fantastic. I prepared them last night and made a wheatberry salad. My husband and I each took some to work for lunch. YUM. I LOVE the chewiness!

I am amazed that I only used one cup, and it made SO MUCH. We’ll be eating them again for lunch tomorrow.

Thanks for your great advice on prep. 🙂

About the chicken-an hour in the car during summertime is too long 🙂

I made oatmeal this morning that I think you’d enjoy Kath. I used 1/3 cup coconut milk, 1/3 cup almond milk, 1/3 cup water for my liquid with half a banana. Some maple syrup stirred in and some almond butter-YUM.

i also have a question about seafood..
example, i had fresh frozen shrimp last night and just ran water over them to just de=thaw a little then decided not to use it, so put it back in the freezer.. is this safe until early next week?

Jenn, I would use the same rule of thumb for shrimp. Once thawed use it within a day or less. Or cook it, and eat it later, but don’t leave it raw and unthawed for that long.

Angelcubbie- If I were you, I would see an RD. When you are clearly doing so many right things, only a professional can really figure out what is coming between you and your goals. I know, as I have had metabolic issues for years. Good luck!

    Suzanne ,
My guess would be you’re eating a little too much…but that’s only a guess based on the little info I know about your diet and life (and the fact that I’m not an R.D. ready to assess yet…)

    leslie ,
Sounds like a great combo (minus the onions 😉 )

    Mandy A,
    http://www.honest-foods.com

    Ally ,
YES that was me!!! Hahhaa. How did I look!? You should’ve come to say hi 🙂 How’s the moving process?

    Jimmi,
Have you seen this one yet on how to make the whipped banana method??
    https://www.katheats.com/?p=2173

Wheatberries might be a good one too, but there’s not much to them other than soaking and boiling!

    val ,
I don’t think I’d ever get sick of oats just because there are so many different ways to eat them – hot, cold, banana, berry, tropical, muesli, smoothies, pancakes, bars, etc.

    Chelsea ,
Coconut milk, eh. I gotta try that!

I was walking out so I saw you through the glass wall! From my little glimpse, you looked really intense 🙂

I thought of saying hey but I’m not sure if you’re the type of person who likes to be ‘bothered’ while working out.

The move is going pretty well and the movers are actually coming tomorrow to start boxing things up, I can’t believe the time is finally here!

    Hi Kath,

That’s the only thing I could think of as well – that I’m eating too much. But, I figured I needed a little more sustenance since I was working out more.
Do you think I need to cut some more calories each day?

The problem is that i am so much more hungrier now that my exercise regiment has intensified. 🙁

Thanks for your advice. I know it’s hard to advise when you don’t know the full details of my diet/exercise.
