Bits + Nibbles

Today’s breads have been so tasty!

BreadzChallah2

I learned to make challah – quadruple braid! [Note the green earring!] I’m getting so much more familiar with working with dough. It’s really, really fun! I LOVE the way soft dough feels in my hands.

Challah

Green cookies!

Greencookies

Ruben roll bread – stuffed with all the ruben toppings! I didn’t get to taste it because it FLEW out the door!

IMG_4329IMG_4330IMG_4333

IMG_4335

It’s very festive here today!

IMG_4336

I started out the day with some coffee. My shoulders have been killing me lately. I think it’s time for a caffeine intervention. Actually, I think my cutting back these last few weeks are to blame. Caffeine withdrawal always manifests itself in my shoulders. I woke up with a horrible ache this morning and took two Advil (!), which helped.

IMG_4338

I had a taste of scone when I got here as well

IMG_4327

And a few dough nibbles

Then I had official breakfast around 9AM (I can’t believe it took me that long to get hungry! Who am I!? Those nibbles last a while)

IMG_4353

And a [mealy] apple and PB&J on High Five!

IMG_4354

And a taste of the Cinnamon Swirl fresh, steaming, hot outta the oven.

IMG_4359

We’re working through lunchtime, then taking a break and coming back to the bakery to close and then go over all the bookkeeping over pizza this evening.

Have a green day!

I discovered your blog and learned about Great Harvest just when I was doing gluten reintroductions for my elimination diet, and I remember looking up Great Harvest – there’s one in Alexandria, so not far from WDC, but now right so close as to tempt me all the time LOL 🙂

    hey kath,
random question: since i saw you making challah, i was wondering whether any of the great harvest bakeries were kosher? (the bakery would have to be under rabbinical supervision)…

i’m guessing not, since the next photo was ruben bread —

anyhow, it would be a big commitment for a bakery to undertake, but really wonderful for customers if the GH was in an area where this would be profitable (ie. have a kosher-seeking clientele)…
