Biking Is Good For Detoxification – Part I

Fabulous girls’s night out with Kelsey tonight!

This afternoon I got some great studying done for Nutrition in the Lifespan. Learned all about infant nutrition. This class is so interesting. I had 2 cups of tea with milk while I studied and didn’t need an additional snack before I headed back out on bike for dinner.

For the bike ride I bundled up with my quilted jacket, scarf and gloves – and even got a little warm on the way there! It’s about 30 minutes to get to SouthPark by bike, and it was much less painful in the proper attire.

Kelsey and I each had five 2-ounce tastes of different wines over the course of our three-hour dinner. Here’s the recap!

I started with the Nelson Chardonnay. Perfectly oaked and California-style –

After the Chard. I had a taste of the Evolution, a white blend. It smelled and tasted just like fresh pineapple juice!

DSC04952

To start for dinner Kelsey and I split a Rainbow Roll sushi. I think I had 3-4 pieces?

DSC04949

I also ordered a big salad with Arugula, Goat Cheese, Red Pepper + Pinenuts. Plus a nice piece of bread!

DSC04953

Plus a hummus plate to make up for lunch. I probably had 3-4 tbsp of hummus and 5-6 pitas? Plus some of the French feta!

DSC04955

With dinner I tried the Zinfandel of the Day. No idea what the label was, but this guy smelled and tasted JUST like a cooking piece of bacon.

DSC04956

Followed by a glass of – get this – the “Clif Bar” !!! Kid you not. I had to try it just for the name! My research tells me this is the same Clif Bar we all know – winery style 🙂 It was quite good – very fruity with a dry finish.

DSC04957

We turned down German Chocolate Cake for a glass of St. Supery’s Moscato. It’s got the perfect balance of sweet but not syrupy with an apple cider aroma.

DSC04958

I just love having all the tasting options! 2-ounce pours are the perfect size.

I’m off to drink some water and get cozy in bed. Tomorrow is all study for my Foodservice midterm, plus a run and some good eats 8)

And a HAPPY 23RD BIRTHDAY TO MY SISTER LARBS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

G’night zzzzzzzzzz

The way you describe wine almost makes me want to have some! (I don’t drink :), but it sounds like it could be a wonderful dessert.)

the wife of the founder of Clif Bar actually just recently started her own line of wines…so that may be why the wine was called “Clif Bar” 🙂

That sushi is making my mouth water – I never order the rainbow roll since it’s so pricey, but it looks awesome. I might just have to splurge one of these days.

I haven’t had sushi since August (not that I’m counting)! If I can just hold out until I got home for Thanksgiving…

I’ve got to find me some of that Clif Bar wine!

    Jenner,
They were really all dinner courses, but I guess the hummus and salad?

I forgot to mention that the husband got off at EarthFare around 9:30 and met us for the final round of drinks. I would NOT have biked home late by myself, and meeting him was part of the evening’s plan. We bike on the sidewalks and we have lights on our bikes. It’s only about 4.5 miles – about 25 minutes.

I don’t take clothes with me normally because I don’t get dirty or sweaty, but in the middle of the summer I do and we don’t bike as many places to “go out” when we hvae to look nice. More for recreational purposes. If you remember back a few weekends when my parents were here I did wear a dress with biker shorts underneath and then changed into shorts after brunch for the ride home. It just depends on the situation.

    DC ,
I like sushi a lot, but it never fills me up! I have to eat like 12-15 rolls to feel full and that gets expensive! Sometimes I get the seaweed salad or edamame to help, but it’s just not my very favorite cuisine.

All that food looks so good!! I love that Evolution wine as well! My fiance and I were out in Oregon in August and we visited the winery that makes that wine…it was actually our favorite winery that we visited that day! I bought the Evolution and two others from there 🙂

oh ok cool, I thought there was sth else in the background of your bacon zinfandel pic, but I guess that was your friend’s.

that’s good you had the hub w/ you… and that you can bike on the sidewalks! I would love to bike to campus b/c it’s only about a mile from my apt, but there aren’t any paths or sidewalks really, and it’s so dangerous. I was in Putney, VT this summer, and it was such a tree-hugger town, it was awesome. They had actual bike LANES in the roads (I almost drove in it a few times b/c I was confused about all the extra narrow lanes!) and they had a green bikes program where you just take a bike from one rack, and return it to another one somewhere else in the town.

What kind of lights do you guys have on your bikes?? And do you have an amazon store, btw??

    Jenner,
We have some lanes here, but I still prefer the sidewalk when it’s available.

I do have an Amazon store, but I don’t use it as much as I should! It’s kind of a pain to add things. But I added the lights for you!

OMG I love sushi!!! I also had sushi this weekend… have a slight addiction that my wallet isn’t fond of. 🙂

Love the wine tasting – were you eating at a vineyard, or does the restaurant you were at just happen to offer a wine flight through dinner?

It was the Dean & Deluca Wine Room. They offer all wines in 2 oz portions = perfect!
