Bikexpedition

Miss me!? I missed you!

IMG_3355Blog-2

On normal Sundays, Matt and I usually ask each other our plans.

Hers:

  • Laundry
  • Cleaning
  • Whole Foods
  • A run
  • Some blogging
  • Reading

His:

  • Brewing
  • Conan
  • Beer drinking
  • Going to a friend’s to brew
  • A long bike ride

We do often do activities together on Sundays, but we also use the day to recharge and do our very favorite activities.

But today, we did everything together! It was very fun

 this !

First, a visit to the new Whole Foods. Matt’s first time – and he still agreed to go a little reluctantly! I lured him there with the excitement of lunch out!

IMG_3340Blog-2

We enjoyed a [very expensive] round of salads and drinks

IMG_3341Blog-2IMG_3342Blog

But really, I’m happy to pay for the convenience of having 26 different prepared salads and veggies ready to eat in 5 minutes! Just not too, too often.

IMG_3344Blog

I tried the Guava for the first time. Didn’t love it.

IMG_3345Blog-2IMG_3339Blog-2

We picked up some produce, yogurt, and cheese and headed home to head out on a bikeventure!

IMG_1242-2Blog

Tune up – much appreciated!

IMG_1240-2Blog

IMG_1243-2Blog

We covered nearly all of the major Charlottesville city neighborhoods!! This is the only road in the city that is all flat!

IMG_1244-2Blog

This is how you do the bike dance: To the left, to the left, to the right, to the riiiight

IMG_1245Blog

IMG_1246Blog

The ride lasted about 1.75 hours. I took my Camelbak filled with ice water and that was my lifesaver. Couldn’t have survived without it, and it kept me plenty cool. Still, it was a hot, hard ride! Left me covered in gnats!

IMG_1247-2Blog

Afternoon post-ride snack was 3 peanut butter crackers. SO GOOD!

IMG_3347Blog

Followed by a quick delicious tomatoy dinner!

IMG_3359Blog-2

We made a quick version of mom’s homemade tomato sauce. Tonight’s included 4 roma tomatoes, 1 can tomato paste, 1/4 cup sundried tomato pesto (Karen’s recipe), 1/4 cup water, 1 handful greens, 5 chopped basil leaves and 1 shot of sherry, stirred in at end. One of my favorite summer recipes!

IMG_3352Blog-2IMG_3351Blog

The huge tomato chunks are so sweet and thick – I used to hate this sauce when I was little and there would be big tomato skins, but now it’s one of my favorite childhood memories!

IMG_3356Blog

Matt just kegged his BASIL IPA!! It’s REALLY good!!!!!!!!! I had a taste with dinner

IMG_3354Blog-2

IMG_3350Blog-2

After dinner we watched Mystic River. Talk about a summer mood killer – scary and dark. BUT I really liked it, and I enjoyed the mystery.

Time for some uplifting reading!!

I agree about “Mystic River” – I have a love/hate relationship with those movies. I love the acting and the message behind it, but I hate the darkness and how disturbing they are. The same with “Gone Baby Gone”. Gives me the shivers.

I was wondering how you and Matt find working together and being together most of the time? I know couples who would refuse to work with their significant others!

I made your tomato sauce last summer! I remember thinking how many tomatoes it called for, and thinking it was sort of ridiculous how much they cooked up. And then I tasted. Best sauce ever! 🙂 I cannot wait to make it again when my dad’s tomatoes are ready!!!

Mystic River is one of my favorite movies and Clint Eastwood one of my favorite directors. I love a good off-beat, serious movie. But it is indeed a dark drama for an glorious summery day, so I can see how it might have been a buzz kill.

I must remake your mom’s pasta sauce now that fresh tomatoes are in peak season…it’s a sin not to take advantage of their goodness. I remember loving it the few times I made it last summer. It’s nice in that you can make various substitutions based on what you have on hand (as you did last eve) with equally good results.

Kath, what a fabulous day you and Matt had!

Quick question for you if you have a moment! What brand is the sports bra that you’re wearing? It looks very similar to one that I am pretty sure my friend recommended, but I can’t remember the brand and/or name of it. I’m figuring you love it if you’re wearing it and (commiserating here, hope you don’t mind!) you and I have the same, ahem, build – my chest needs pretty serious support.
