Back To Basics

Like Nate described my recent bickering with oatmeal, yoga and I have been having the same relationship. I think it’s because I’ve gotten swamped with school work I “don’t have time” for yoga. So I’ve gone back to basics: 20 minutes. We all have 20 minutes and the stretching is so important. This morning I tried a new session too: Sun Salutations Flow #1. It was a beginner level and was pretty slow, but I still felt the good effects. Sun sal. flows are my favorite part about yoga.

I woke up Matt at 8:30 for breakfast (he came home at 1am from his bar hopping visits). (By the way, most of my links are auto links through Windows Live Writer now – I know you guys know he’s at Brew+Bake!) And I set out to make oats in my big fluffy Quaker Natural robe.

This was an awesome bowl!

  • 1/6 cup oats, 1/6 cup GH 9 grain blend, 1/3 cup vanilla soy milk, 1/3 cup+ water, 3/4 banana, 1 dried fig, pinch salt, splash vanilla
  • The last of the crumbled Morning Glory muffin
  • Some walnuts
  • 1/2 tbsp flax
  • 1 tsp toffee pieces
  • Spoonful Naturally More

Ambiance

And egg nog tea

Agenda (in no particular order)

  • Leptin paper
  • Biochem take home
  • Workout
  • Lunch
  • Meal plan
  • Pizza + a high skool musical with friends!!! (For real!)

I’m in the “work all weekend” mode of the semester. Ugg. This is the time when I am envious of those who work during the week and have 2 days of complete freedom. But I suppose being able to have lunch with friends on a Thursday is my trade off. And this semester will be over before I know it.

The rains are blowing in – I need some sunshine

this !

Trust me, school is way better than working full-time. I wish I was back in school right now! Oh well, July will come soon enough…good luck with your schoolwork. It looks like you’re getting in some fun, too, so thats great!

    I love sun salutations too.
And I envy that bowl of oatmeal. It looks so great! Whenever I try to make oatmeal, it comes out like a big gross bowl of glue.

And I agree with Michelle that school is better than working. I worked something like 50 hours this week and I’m on call all weekend. (And I don’t get overtime)

    egg nog tea? Sounds delish!

as always, your oats look AMAZING!

I know how you feel with being overworked and not having enough time! I just finished my Master’s and I was working full-time while doing it. There were times I wanted to pull my hair out!

You’re an amazing woman who will pull through just fine! And it helps that you have such awesome people like Matt and your other friends to support you along the way. Good luck with your to-dos and Happy weekend!! 😉

I remember thinking the same thing when I was in school. Thinking how I couldn’t wait till I had a “normal” schedule. The funny part is life just get busier, no matter what. Work weeks are full as are weekends 🙂
I guess the grass is always greener…
As long as you truly love what you do… all will be good

    Will the rain ever stop?

So true…we all have at least 20 minutes to take care of our bodies. Glad you enjoyed your early morning sun salutations. Hopefully, you can actually salute the sun soon. 🙂

Sun salutations are my favorite part, too!

I wish our weekends were filled with freedom. They are usually filled with errands and obligations. I relish in the weekend where we have nothing to do. This weekend is a long one because it is our one year wedding anniversary so we are enjoying lots of freedom! hoooray!

I think your approach to getting back into yoga is a good one… slowly working it back into your schedule will probably remind you how much you were enjoying it before. Good luck with it!

    Morning Kath!

I’m in the same boat regarding homework! I slacked off this semester and now have all the projects coming due in the next month.

I just made your whipped oatmeal recipe this morning and it was awesome! Much better than just nuking the oatmeal and bananas in the microwave.

    Have a great day!
