All Work and All Play

Today felt so productive from both a work and play viewpoint!

As you probably saw, we spent all morning cleaning + organizing the bakery. My cereal powered me through! We had to get the whole lobby clear so they can put in our countertops and floor this coming week. Despite a full day of cleaning, the bakery is still SO dirty!!

IMG_8206Blog

Just before 1pm, Allie arrived!

IMG_8196Blog

She’s apartment hunting with her mom because she’s going to be working for us!!

IMG_8197Blog

Allie brought me Alliebars!!! Wheeeeeeee! Matt and I shared one for an appetizer to lunch!

IMG_8199Blog

We ventured across the parking lot to Cville Coffee, which is truly one of the best lunch spots in Cville! McIntire Plaza is going to rock the lunch crowd soon!

Cville Coffee has such a great salad

IMG_8204Blog

It’s covered in beans + olives + veggies and you can add a slab of the most amazing marinated tofu imaginable!

IMG_8202Blog

Thanks so much to Allie’s mom for treating us to lunch!!

IMG_8200Blog

After touring an apartment with Allie (since I am the ultimate house hunter!!) I went back to work for a bit and then we called it quits around 4PM.

IMG_8219Blog

We headed over to our friend’s house – Seamane and Rob, who are beer connoisseurs and homebrewers!  They had a delicious brew bubbling away –

IMG_8220Blog

These guys really know where to find the good beers – they were 5 for 5 on the tasting front this afternoon! Everything I tasted was incredible!!

IMG_8233Blog

IMG_8221Blog

Gouden Carolus Blonde Ale – YUM!

IMG_8216Blog

My favorite was the Grande Cru by Great Divide Brewing Company! A beer you can CHEW!

IMG_8218Blog

We also tried a smoked beer – loved this one because I love all things smoked!

IMG_8230Blog

And finally – this Gouden Carolus Easter special beer – that had such strong notes of anise it was like licorice meets mint! Loved how unique this was –

IMG_8232Blog

I snacked on a few handfuls of pretzel chips – was hungry after all that dust moving! And see that Cadbury Crème Egg? I didn’t get anything from the Easter Bunny this year 🙁 Seamane let me snag one of her eggs – excited to enjoy it for dessert someday this week!

IMG_8222Blog

Seamane and Avery gave us a nice show –

IMG_8223Blog

Twirls

DoggieswirlsBlog

And some downdog yooooga!

IMG_8224Blog

We said farewell to our friends in the evening and headed home for a quick shower and change of clothes and went back out – on bikes again – to Jess + Mike’s place for a cookout!

IMG_8234Blog

Sizzlin’

IMG_8257Blog

Jess made beef burgers and also Emily’s Black Bean Burgers! Such a great recipe!

IMG_8251Blog

While they cooked, we nibbled on a spread of snacks

IMG_8245Blog

Including this great version of spinach dip made with greek yogurt (don’t have the recipe – sorry – but perhaps Jess will share in the comments?!)

IMG_8248Blog

Dinner was burgers, salad, and Jess’s awesome baked french fries, which she said we had to eat on our salads “Pittsburg style”

IMG_8249Blog

Great recommendation – fries are like hearty croutons!

IMG_8267BlogIMG_8263Blog

After a few glasses of water, I had a half glass of Matt’s German beer

IMG_8261Blog

For dessert, Jess made Jessica’s Better-Than-Crack Brownies!

IMG_8239Blog

These were unlike any brownie I’d had before – the top layer was INcredible!! Like fudge meets rice crispie treat meets ganache!!

IMG_8243Blog

We enjoyed them over some Breyer’s ice cream – slightly melted just how I like it!

IMG_8273Blog

So good I couldn’t keep my paws off of the brownies – went back for a half a second!

The bike ride home was dark and scary. I don’t think I want to do that one again. I almost biked right into a ditch, which would have been terrifying since I couldn’t see a thing. Glad to be home safe and sound now.

Off to bed!

What a busy, productive and satisfying Saturday you two had. Good for you. It’s great that you bike so much to get around. Have you considered getting lights for your bikes? We did this after we found ourselves biking into the evening hours. At first it was more for the other drivers, so they could see us, but then as we did more in the dark it was good for us to see where we were going. Just a thought. Have a great Sunday.
