All Quiet On The Western Front

Inland we drive. Westward we go.

Munching on bags of lettuce

…shaken with Garlic Gold.

Cherries.

Yogurt mixes.

Quite the ‘healthy eating on the go’ bunch!!

I think it’s my turn to drive 🙁

this !

Long driving makes me tired, I don’t think it would be a good idea if I were to have a “turn” at driving on a family road trip 😛

I love the salad-in-a-bag (SIAB? Oooh, coincidence? Haha) idea, that’s taking creativity and healthy eating on the go to a whole new level.

I love packing fun things to eat on the road. I splurge most on fruit that I don’t usually get. Nothing like refreshing fruit to chase away carsickness!

I have a question for you and your nutritional expertise. On our local Philly 10 show they had a nutritionist go through food that ‘seem’ healthy and then she gave healthier alternatives. She used Chobani pineapple as an example and said the manufacturers of “fruit on the bottom” type yogurts buy near rotting fruit that dealers can’t sell anymore and add syrup to stop the decay process and then sell to yogurt companies. (She went on to suggest buying plain greek yogurt and adding your own fresh fruit). What is your opinion on this?

Well I can’t speak for the fruit on the bottom industry. I doubt they would use food that wasn’t safe for human consumption. But sure, they may use fruit that is bruised or unappealing aesthetically.

As for the sugar, I totally agree with her. Plain yogurt with fresh fruit is best. But that doesn’t mean it’s not totally fine to eat a fruity Chobani every now and then. Or just be conscious about sugar intake at the rest of the meal. But plain yogurt is most definitely the better choice.

Wow. My family’s idea of healthy eating on the road is stopping by Subway for dinner. We don’t typically pack snacks on our road trips, and where we go, there’s nothing but Allsups convenience stores, and they have NOTHING healthy.
