A Spoonful Of Oatmeal Helps The Medicine Go Down

DSC07839

My cold is all runny nose etc. this morning 😥 Hopefully it’s on its last day…

I did manage 9 hours of sleep last night, so that was nice! I told myself when I left Hillsborough that I would leave unpacking for the morning because I am one of those nutty people who has to unpack everything the moment I walk in the door before I can relax. Well, as it turns out the husband and I did end up unpacking most everything last night, so it was nice to walk up to a put-together house (sans one big box of Christmas presents).

But before I could do anything else, I had to trek to the grocery store for milk! I could have used our shelf-stable soy milk in oats, but what I really wanted was a cup of our new Caribou Reindeer coffee that reader Faith gave us when we visited her on Xmas Eve, so bundle up it was. The walk was actually quite pleasant with the sun shining and all.

Once back I set to work on pumpkin oats!! My, my it’s been a while!

DSC07836

The Mix:

  • 1/3 cup oats, 1% milk, water, 1 medium extra ripe banana, pinch salt, tsp vanilla
  • 1/3 cup pumpkin, stirred in at end
  • Pumpkin butter
  • Coconut butter
  • Barney Butter spoonful
  • 1/3 crumbled Honey Graham Z-Bar

DSC07834

You know, it was almost too much!!!! I think I weaned my stomach off of big breakfast. But it sure did taste good 🙂

DSC07838

These are new placemats my mom got me for Christmas from Williams-Sonoma. I absolutely love them!

DSC07837

And two candles – Sonoma themed – the husband got me!

Not sure what’s on today’s agenda. Definitely grocery shopping and a workout. But not sure when or where for either. The husband and I are doing a romantic New Year’s for two. I always want to spend NYE in some place exciting but we always end up dong something more low key. My sister is in New York City! So I’m in charge of planning a date before he gets home from work at 5pm. We shall see where we end up.

I LOVE those placemats! Our fine china is in a similar print, we got it from one of my Aunts, who got it for her wedding in the 70’s.

    Enjoy planning your date!

Hope you cold goes away – I love romantic dinners at home! It’s so much better than getting all dressed up and paying WAY too much for an okay time.

    Happy New Year!

Shaun is one those people who needs everything unpacked and I’ve become one of those people too. It’s so much better than leaving it for days and days (the sort of person I used to be). Oh and big New Years celebrations aren’t all they’re cracked up to be. I was in London for NYE 1999 and it SUCKED. Way too many people being drunk and stupid.

Ha – I always have to pack as soon as I get home too. We laugh because my husband’s suitcase would sit in the entry hall for days if I didn’t make him move it, but my clothes are all unpacked, laundry is done, mail is sorted before I ever sit down.

Hope you’re feeling better. Lovely bowl of oats on your new placemat. So warm.

Hahaha…will you come to my house? We got home Sunday night and still haven’t unpacked! The only thing I was concerned with was washing my face and brushing my teeth when we walked in the door, after that I don’t think I touched my suitcase.

Happy New Year! (well almost 🙂 ) I hope you feel better soon! Low-key New Year’s Eve’s are my favourite, sort of more romantic that way yes?

We are doing a low key New Year’s Eve too. I wish I could do something cool like Vegas, but that never seems to work out.

NYE is much better if you’ve got money to burn.. other than that, it’s over-rated. I’m having a quiet night in with friends. Your oatmeal + three kinds of butter sounds sooo good! I’m so happy you introduced me to oats for breakfast–I’ll never go back!

They say the 3rd day of the cold is theworst, so at least the worst is over?!

Love the placemats! Now that I started a blog, my hubby read it yesterday and gave me a concerned look. I was so worried he had some REAL criticism, but he said, “I have one problem. We need to get new placemats!”

Now I know where to look!

Happy New Years…enjoy your date night at home!

Aww I like the “retro” Eckerd cold medicine bottle, lol! I worked there all through high school and undergrad. Make sure it’s not expired! Also I’m loving the preppy toile placemats.

Best wishes for a Happy New Year!!I hope you feel better… I have had a couple of New Years with the flu and it is not fun(alka sezter flu plus in my champange glass at midnight). I have to wait for my Chef to finish the big New Year’s dinner at his resturant, hopefully he will be in the door by midnight, but hey I am home this New Years Eve and that is a bonus!
