A Light And Stormy Night

Foodblog-41-2

How does a dip in a pool sound to a hot 37+6 week pregnant woman? Excellllent!

My friend Lara and her two cute kiddos invited us (I just said us – not idea why – ahh!) over to her neighborhood pool this afternoon. I’ve been avoiding my bathing suit in public for some time (just some shyness about the bump), but I decided a dip sounded great. Luckily we were the only ones there!

Foodblog-41

Lara is a botanical artist and paints vegetables in beautiful detail! She gave me a set of notecards of her paintings at our low country boil party. I’ve been writing lots of thank you notes lately, and these are just stunning. She sells them in Etsy if any of you want to check them out!

Foodblog-3859

Matt picked me up on his way home from the bakery and we walked together – being chased by a storm!! Luckily we made it home just in time. Although given that I was in a wet bathing suit and cover up, I don’t think a little rain would have hurt.

Speaking of storms, nesting has slowed down from a category 5 hurricane to a summer thunderstorm, but it’s still drizzling in. I bought this exciting piece of furniture for the nursery and assembled it myself today in 10 minutes time. LOVE it – more soon!

Foodblog-38

Matt also completed another project tonight while I made dinner. We have curtains for the living room now! I was itching for a bit more privacy for nighttime – especially if I’m going to be up all hours of the night. I’ll tell you more about them tomorrow. Very happy with final result!

Foodblog-3913

In typical me style, I made a one-bowl dinner of Ricotta Pesto Pasta.

Foodblog-3906

Whole wheat pasta, cooked, and tossed with cooked zucchini and tomatoes, about 1/2 a cup of delicious grass-fed ricotta cheese and about 1/3 cup homemade pesto. Walnuts and parm cheese on top!

Foodblog-3909

Whole wheat pasta is so much heartier than regular.

Foodblog-3911

Matt proclaimed before dinner was even finished that he wanted ice cream for dessert! It’s usually the other way around so he took me by surprise!

Smile this !

Foodblog--6

We went to Kohr Bros and both commented on the drive there “we should have just walked downtown!” But Kohr was worth the drive – I got a Snowstorm shake with vanilla custard and Resee’s. I purchased a small, but requested that she only serve me half – I really didn’t need a whole one! Worked out great.

Foodblog--2-3

I finished the dishes. Matt finished the curtains. He’s now finishing his baby canvas! Exciting times.

Yum! Dinner & dessert look fantastic. I am craving ice cream. 🙂 I did however get my sweet in today. I baked, from scratch, carrot cake cupcakes to take into my DI today since we were in ‘clinical bootcamp’ for most of the day. Nothing helps keep you awake like sugar followed by a ‘tasting’ of oral supplements that we will give to patients!

Your dinner looks awesome! You are so great at incorporating so many veggies, flavors, and textures into your meals 🙂 Really like the idea of adding ricotta in addition to this–especially if you don’t have a lot of pesto on hand.

You and Matt lead such a full, exciting life together. Would love to hear about (er, ‘read about) your thoughts/feelings as you transition from your life as a hip, happening duo into a family of 3. I’m always curious what it’s like for first-time parents in those final weeks of pregnancy – I think I’ll be full of mixed emotions! 🙂

I always ask for smaller portions of ice cream than the “small” size. Ice cream portions (as with almost everything these days) are out of control! I honestly can’t see how people eat the “large.”

Asking for an extra-small is such a great idea!

Kath, I don’t mean to sound weird – this is meant to be a straightforward compliment, not a backhanded one or an insult in disguise! Some of your recent posts, here and at KERF, have seemed more thoughtful, more introspective, maybe like you’ve had more time to think about things or a little more time to write or something. I like your posts like these, that have more of what you’ve been thinking, or the ones where I can feel you walking wet and wrapped, ahead of a lovely summer storm, through the cicada song. It’s a lot more interesting than the ones where it seems like you’re in a little bit of a hurry and it’s just a factual list of what you ate. (not that what you ate shouldn’t be included! I don’t mean that.)
