3’s A Charm

3 weeks, 3 classes, 3 tests. A little over 3 hours to go until the last one! After today I will be able to relax a bit and focus on my longer term projects. And take 3 vacations coming up on Oct + November!

I set out on this beautiful fall day for a bike ride to the gym at 9:30. I spent 30 minutes climbing stairs with Better Homes + Gardens and then did 10 minutes of weight lifting. I rotated between the machines today. What I hate most about weight lifting is doing multiple sets – it just gets boring. So sometimes I just do a machine until my muscles burn and leave it at one set. Since I’m pushing them to the max, they still feel really tired, which is the goal!

Once home it was rush, rush to get to Rock Hill by noon for lunch at EarthFare and study time with my friends:

I got the usual – a big salad with a littla this and that. The highlight was the HUGE piece of onion skin I found mixed in with the lettuce 👿 And a nice fresh fig 🙂

IMG_3879 (640x480)

Other highlights included salmon, wheatberry salad, butternut salad, chicken cubes, grapes, blue cheese, a grapeleaf and a bunch of veggies.

The 3 of us have to get studying!

sometimes, when he’s trying to bribe me, my fiance will offer “we can go to the salad bar at whole foods!”
    it works.

Huge salads like that are the best! I always get so excited eating them that I it eat super fast, anticipating what the next bite will hold. Hmm, is it bad to be that excited about a salad?

Love the study group- tres adorable! Good luck!

I generally feel compelled to do more than one set of an exercise. But I find lifting to be BORING (except for the brief time I was paying an 18-year old kid trainer $60/hour to train me). I was reading one of the machines that actually said lifting the correct amount of weight, slowly, and to failure (this was the pull-up/dip machine) was almost as effective as doing multiple sets. So, yay!

Yeah I agree with about 15 people above — fresh figs are the BEST thing in the world. If only they weren’t so expensive. Sigh.

I’m in love with that salad!!!!! So many flavors and textures! Yum!
Even if you aren’t doing multiple sets, at least you are getting in some strength training. If you get bored, do 15 minutes of cardio and then a set of strength and repeat. Breaks up the boredom!

I like your idea of just doing one power set. Sometimes I get discouraged during weight lifting because I know I still have to do so much more!

salad looks amazing! i LOVE fresh figs they are so full of flavor! esp when they are sliced and baked in the oven they plump uip and the flavor really comes out!

if the weights get boring you can throw in some cardio in btwn sets! like jump jacks, running in place, jump rope!

I am always super jealous of your trips to Earth Fare. We don’t have those around here (los angeles). Kinda reminds me of Whole Foods…but whenever I made a salad there is costs $15 + !!
