I am loving the tomatoes coming out of our garden right now! They have so much flavor – bursts of sweet best eaten right from the vine. August’s 12 Months of Real Food post is all about this summer’s tomato bounty –
To clarify, OF the households that home garden, 93% grow tomatoes!!

Thanks to Jamey for her help pouring through the internet to find these best-of tomato recipes!
The Parmesan tomatoes and roasted garlic cherry tomatoes look amazing! I’m making the parm ones tonight!
I thought the same thing. Will definitely be trying the parm one’s this week!
Slow roasted tomatoes are my favourite! Such an intense flavour!
I adore tomatoes! But I’m willing to bet that not quite 93% of Americans eat tomatoes let alone grow them! ha ha. I live in the city and don’t know a single person who grows their own. I wish I had room to grow tomatoes!
Some great recipe links – thanks!
I agree – that stat stuck out to me too so I googled it. Apparently of all American households that do home gardening, 93% of those grown tomatoes… not 93% of all Americans! That would be awesome though 🙂

Thanks I’ll add some clarification!
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I have a big bowl of fresh tomatoes on my kitchen counter, and I was wondering how I could use them all!
Thank you, this is a beautiful post! Just to clarify – 93% of American households grow tomatoes? That’s shockingly high! I would have thought of those households that grow vegetables, 93% grow tomatoes.
When I was little I used to say I hated tomatoes. Absolutely hated them, until I realized salsa my favourite thing was tomatoes. Doh! Now i’ll eat them in anything and everything. My favourite though is either salsa or bruschetta.
Wow, this may be my new favorite blog post ever! I love all the photos of tomatoes, how beautiful! Thanks for sharing all these amazing recipes, can’t wait to try them out!
I’m not a fan of raw tomatoes, but I love love love tomato soup- I have this fabulous recipe from one of Ina Garten’s cookbooks for a tomato orzo soup with grilled cheese croutons. Majorly craving that right now!
I absolutely love roasted tomatoes, or tomato sauces, or salsa, but I CANNOT STAND raw tomatoes! Not on my sandwich, and definitely not in caprese form. It’s so sad, because they are so versatile and so beautiful!
Me too!
I’m obsessed with tomatoes! They’re so delicious!
This are tomatoes porn. Can’t get enough of them.
I waited on someone once who was allergic to tomatoes and until then I had never realized just how many foods have tomatoes in them or how much that would suck! They’re such a staple in my diet that I almost forget how nutritious they are — they’re just there, like garlic is, haha.
Also, just as a head’s up, today when I typed in your website into Google and hit the link, it sent me to a “this website is down” page. I had to exit and go back through the process.
Tomatoes are my all-time favorite vegetable, so you can imagine how much I love this time of year. Thanks for giving me more recipes to add to my arsenal.
I’m especially intrigued by those tomato chips. Oh my, I just might have to buy me a dehydrator!
Martha Stewart has a delicious recipe for Tuscan tomato soup (amazing) and I used Katie Lee’s recipe for Panzanella. Sweet mother it was good!
