MORNING!!!
Wheee! We are an energetic bunch who slept too late!! [That’s a good thing – sleeping was good!] It’s been a bit go go go since we got up because we are going on a bear hike with Faith + Tate!
Remember the Dough Boy Smoothie I made a few weeks ago? It was incredible and needed to be replicated! Check that post for the details on procedure – last night I stuck ingredients in the Vita-mix and this morning I blended them away.
Tangy Dough Boy Smoothie
For TWO Dough Boy Smoothies
- 2/3 cup rolled oats (I had to mix in a little Scottish because we were out of rolled and that seemed to work fine)
- 2/3 cup milk
- 2/3 cup plain yogurt ( <—the tang!)
- 2 smallish ripe bananas
- 2 tbsp chia seeds
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1tsp cinnamon
- Pinch salt
- Plus 1/2 cup milk for AM
Mix together in blender (just with a spoon). Put in fridge overnight. In AM, add 1/2 cup milk and blend away!
Topped with the amazing Lynda’s Granola and Flying Squirrel PB – Bright Eyed and Bushy Tailed!
Instead of coffee I had an Earl Gray tea, which I lightly steeped to just get a touch of caffeine. I am not missing coffee much at the moment – might be that springtime has started to sink in. Tea was spiked with milk, which helps a lot with its blandness.
It’s only 46 degrees outside, but I’m in shorts with an optimistic attitude towards the wetish weather!
See you tonight.

Enjoy your hike!
I seriously need to try those oats they look amazing, enjoy your hike and a hopefully beautiful day!
I think springtime + the sun + warmer temps naturally give people more energy!
Enjoy your hike!
Oh oh! try some vanilla in the tea next time!
Have a great time hiking! I can’t wait until our mud season is over so we can explore the trails again too. One of my favorite things about hiking is packing a fun lunch to eat as a picnic.
mmm I like the sound of the dough boy smoothie!
am loving that grass picture with the wide awake theme also
hope you have a great hike
Ever try plain goat yogurt? If you like tangy, you’ll love it.
Woo enjoy your hike! Seems like everyone had great weather this weekend!
Ooh have a good hike! I really want to go on one now – darn the lack of anything but roads down here :/
Yess! I was looking for this recipe recently so glad to see it front and center again! Sounds delicious, and the first picture is gorrrrgeous.
My sister is visiting and I think i know what I’m making her for breakfast tomorrow! Does the chia seeds affect the texture? Asking ad am not sure if there’s enough time for them to work their magic!
They do thicken it a bit, but it would be fine without them
Have a good time! It’s really sunny and warm here in the UK – I hope it’s here to stay.
Yum! What a perfectly perfect breakfast
I hope it warms up for you!
Yum. The smoothie looks great. Where did you get that bowl?
Have fun hiking!
Crate + Barrel
Have to get my hands on the Flying Squirrel PB!
Holy fiddle faddle, batman! I must try this. TOMORROW!
Have a great hike! Hope the weather starts to look up for ya
i need to retry your dough boy concoction using your recipe. mine was such a fail!!!
I also slept a little later then I had hoped – but just went for a run in similar temps. I love it!
Not shorts weather yet in Massachusetts – soon I hope.
Enjoy your hike!
I like your simple white mug
If it’s thick, it’s more appealing.
Do you mean you refrigerate it IN the blender? i.e you put the blender in your fridge?
Enjoy your hike. I want a place to hike!
Enjoy your hike. Sounds like you guys are having a really fun weekend.
Is goin’ on a bear hike anything like goin’ on a bear hunt? Love that book!
Hope you have fun!
Exactly the same!
That melty PB on top looks so yum.
Those oats looks really good! I think I’m going to try that this week. Have fun on your hike!
So glad you had a good night’s sleep! Have fun on the hike!!!
I love the first picture with the grass! Its so springy!
I’m similar to you in that I have seasons in which I enjoy coffee more than others. It’s been tea every morning this week, and I’m totally shocked I don’t miss coffee! Must be that spring is springing, as you said
Yum! I had yummy overnight oats this morning, too! Chocolate- raspberry- coconut ones
Enjoy your hike! Perfect dough smoothie for hiking adventure!
Hiking is one of my favourite things about spring and summer! Have a great time!
Gorgeous pictures!!!
The weather in my area is beautiful this Sunday. I’m soaking it in because usually spring overloads us with rain. Everyone is out and about and it’s such a nice sign of spring!
Hope your bear hike goes well
Gorgeous pictures, I love your style! And the smoothie looks fab; I might try it with coconut milk and coconut yogurt. Looks so delicious, I need to make breakfast!
Enjoy your day! xo
i’m an english tea drinker as well (spot of milk). i’m sure you already know this, but when you add milk to black teas and such, it actually hampers the absorption of all the antioxidant qualities
anyway, you eat well and get many of them elsewhere! ENJOY YOUR DAY!
I think I may need to try a dough boy smoothie! Enjoy your Sunday.
I’m loving your pink tablecloth! Very spring-ish.
Have you ever tried vanilla chai tea bags? There are some that have no caffeine and they are spicy/cinnamon-y and delicious. A touch of milk or vanilla soy milk and it is not bland in the least!
Which brand? I’ve had a few and didn’t love them
Gotta try one of these SIAB’s! I love the regular ones but have yet to try a doughy one yet…..breakfast is on the menu for dinner tonight so maybe this will be my choice!
I have GOT to try that out. Sounds like doughy perfection!
Cold breakfasts are making there comeback! I had chilled swiss oatmeal this morning while it was 80*. Perfection! Enjoy your hike.
Hope you guys had fun on the hike! The smoothie looks yummy- super thick!Happy Sunday
I love that bowl! Sundays are great for hiking and such. Have a fab time!
Jason and I are about to go out on a hike/long walk — it is so beautiful outside that it seems like a waste to stay indoors!
Have fun on your hike.
I have been not into coffee lately either – maybe the change in seasons makes you more energetic so you don’t need it?
I hope you have a great hike. They seem like a fun couple to hang out with.
What an excellent serving idea!
Have fun hiking and anything with the name DOUGH in the title really gets my attention. I am the raw dough and dough bites lovin’ queen.
Here’s to warmer weather for you, too!
i love this smoothie! I can’t wait to have more once I am back in the USA – the land of the blender, i like to call it

Yay for shorts! Tomorrow is supposed to reach the 80′s here, so I’ll be donning mine as well.
Lovely breakfast! And I love the bowl!
Mmmm…that smoothie looks good…love the ingredient combo and that you thought to put it in the blender overnight. And Earl Grey tea bland?!? What kind are you drinking? Go for Twinings…full of flavour!
Just a thought, have you ever tried *Caramel Roobios* blend of tea?
Spectacular with a bit of milk or not, and honey or not, its caffeine free, and full of antioxidants & helps body absorb iron.
I drank it during my pregnancies…so lovely!
Enjoy your hike.
Which brand is it? I love roobios in general!
The one I get is blended right in the specialty tea shop I go too! It’s divine.
I’m a bit far from u; I’m on the Sunshine Coast, in Australia.
I’m sure there is a plethora close to you-if not I’ll post some to you. For real… Wouldn’t that b funny?
L
This post definitely makes me feel like spring is almost here! That PB looks so creamy and delish
that smoothie looks sooooo good!
It’s 81 degrees in Cleveland today, so hot oats are out of the question! I’m going to try this smoothie tomorrow morning!
I hope you had fun on your hike! ooh! this bowl of goodness looks exactly that!
and mmm… i love tea! It’s my favorite (earl grey is my utmost favorite flavor too) even over coffee!
oh my – that smoothie looks delish!
I love that tablecloth! It’s so spring-y and happy!
Those oats look amazing! I love anything that even resembles dough
Dough boy…. teehee! As soon as bananas don’t cost the same as gold anymore, I’ll be making this!
When I quit drinking coffee I found that having strong black tea for a few weeks then switching the green tea was helpful for detox. Hope it helps with your aches and pains too.
I had my first dough boy smoothie the other day and I can’t wait to try one again!
That smoothie probably kicked started your day! I like the tangy aspect about it!
You probably should have made extra smoothies for the bears to keep them happy

FYI- lightly steeping the tea does not reduce the amount of caffeine in it. Caffeine is one of the first things to steep out of the tea leaves, so if you want to make it decaf, you should steep it for a 10-15 seconds and dump that water. Start with fresh hot water and the same tea bag, then you don’t have sacrifice the flavor.
This smoothie looks so tasty I need to give it a try.
I love Earl Grey tea. You should try some teas from the Celestial brand. They are very tasty!
Your SIAB looks deeeee-lish! For my nighttime snack I made a quick version of a doughboy smoothie; although my oats were only able to soak for 90 minutes. Rolled oats + homemade almond milk + cocoa powder + cinnamon + strawberries. Very lightly blended in the VitaMix. It was fabulous! Thanks for the inspiration.
If you’re ever in Canada (or if you shop online), try David’s Tea http://www.davidstea.com/ for Earl Grey and other teas that will make your heart sing. My absolute favourite: Organic Cream Earl Grey http://www.davidstea.com/cream-of-earl-grey. Black tea with figs called Forbidden Fruit also blew my socks off. And I’m a coffee lover.
Mmmm doughy oats!! I think I did something wrong to mine last time because they did NOT look like that…must attempt again, immediately!
oh i am obsessed with the first picture!
AWE! You have no idea how long I sat here daydreaming about this once I saw it! My eyes were fixed and wouldn’t move! I couldn’t get up! I could only look at your BEAUTIFUL SMOOTHIE!
