Wide Awake

MORNING!!!

IMG_6351Blog

Wheee! We are an energetic bunch who slept too late!! [That’s a good thing – sleeping was good!] It’s been a bit go go go since we got up because we are going on a bear hike with Faith + Tate!

IMG_6345Blog

Remember the Dough Boy Smoothie I made a few weeks ago? It was incredible and needed to be replicated! Check that post for the details on procedure – last night I stuck ingredients in the Vita-mix and this morning I blended them away.

IMG_6347Blog

Tangy Dough Boy Smoothie

For TWO Dough Boy Smoothies

  • 2/3 cup rolled oats (I had to mix in a little Scottish because we were out of rolled and that seemed to work fine)
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 2/3 cup plain yogurt ( <—the tang!)
  • 2 smallish ripe bananas
  • 2 tbsp chia seeds
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1tsp cinnamon
  • Pinch salt
  • Plus 1/2 cup milk for AM

Mix together in blender (just with a spoon). Put in fridge overnight. In AM, add 1/2 cup milk and blend away!

Topped with the amazing Lynda’s Granola and Flying Squirrel PB – Bright Eyed and Bushy Tailed!

IMG_6342Blog

Instead of coffee I had an Earl Gray tea, which I lightly steeped to just get a touch of caffeine. I am not missing coffee much at the moment – might be that springtime has started to sink in. Tea was spiked with milk, which helps a lot with its blandness.

IMG_6344Blog

IMG_6349Blog

IMG_6339Blog

It’s only 46 degrees outside, but I’m in shorts with an optimistic attitude towards the wetish weather!

See you tonight.

i’m an english tea drinker as well (spot of milk). i’m sure you already know this, but when you add milk to black teas and such, it actually hampers the absorption of all the antioxidant qualities 🙁

FYI- lightly steeping the tea does not reduce the amount of caffeine in it. Caffeine is one of the first things to steep out of the tea leaves, so if you want to make it decaf, you should steep it for a 10-15 seconds and dump that water. Start with fresh hot water and the same tea bag, then you don’t have sacrifice the flavor.
