My mom’s favorite song!!
Let’s all sing to the red rubber [cali] bowl
I was craving a SIAB this morning!
Sadly I didn’t get the texture right on this one. I was going for a thick sorbet and ended up with a grainy, grassy texture
It was still tasty though.
The Vita-Mix
- 1/2 banana
- 1/2 packet Vega Berry Blend
- 3/4 cup vanilla hemp milk
- 1 cup frozen mixed berries
- 4 big kale leaves
Toppings:
- Bob’s Red Mill Granola
- Bob’s Red Mill muesli
- Nuttzo PF Chia Fluff!!
I LOVE the Vita-mix for so many reasons. If you are a frequent smoothie maker, I would definitely recommend the investment (if you rarely make smoothies, stick with a simple standard blender for those few occasions).
Reason #1 why I love it: the plunger. You know when you have liquid whirring on the bottom and solids filled to the brim that won’t blend? Just insert the plunger and push it all down and blend easily.
Reason #2 why I love it: cleaning. Just rinse out your smoothie residue, add a drop of dish soap and fill halfway with water. Blend on high and the suds clean the blender sponge-free! (No pricking hands on blades!)
Tea party for one:
I used the Tiger Chocomint and Vanilla Cream. Still a bit of a disappointment
But nice and strong with the doubled up bags!
Going to crank the heat in my car! Brrr!
We have a nice weekend ahead. I’m planning on frozen yogurt, swimming, yoga, a pedicure and reading!!

You’ve totally sold that mixer to me – I want one!!
Can you taste the kale in your smoothies? I have loads of kale at the moment, and I WANT to blend it, but I’m slightly afraid….
A little. But kale is good!!
I love that song!!! I have it on my running mix, no lie, lol.
Sounds like a great weekend planned– I need a pedicure BADLY!
That is SUCH a good idea with cleaning the mixer! I’m trying that with my blender
Your weekend sounds a lot like mine! Reading, PEDICURE (badly needed) and I’m almost positive there will be some ice cream/frozen yogurt involved! Have fun!
I don’t think I’ve ever tried kale. Well, not that I remember. It’s not very common here I don’t think.
Have a great day Kath
Bummer that those teas have been so disappointing – they sound delicious!
And the Vitamix souns amazingggggg but they are soooo expensive!
I think the day I buy a vitamix. Sounds like they both last equally as long
Sounds like a nice weekend! I hope it is pretty here. We have friends coming in from out of town…I just want to relax and get a little bit of vitamin D!
Kale for breakfast? I hear kale is a bit tougher to get used to. I see these kale chips everywhere…or maybe kale on pizza might be nice!
I have never tried cleaning a blender like that! So cool!
the vitamix sounds incredible…to bad i’d have to win one to own one! i love the table your breakfast is on, it’s so pretty and colorful!
I love my vitamix! Can I ask you a question about yours? When it starts blending does the container shift towards the right when the motor catches it? Just wondering if that’s normal or if I need to send it in for a repair.
Thanks!
Mine does not do that
Sounds like a great weekend ahead- hope you enjoy it!!
Kath~
So i have been totally inspired by you and your SIAB/Vitamix for as long as you’ve had them. I checked out my Credit Card pts and what do ya know, had enough to cover a brand new high performance blender/juicer. SO EXCITED!!!!! Can’t wait to start making my own SIAB and more….
woot!
Barbara
Woo hoo!
Thanks for the tip on cleaning the Vita-Mix! I have REALLY been thinking about buying one of these (as in dropping hints to my hubby that it would be SOO worth it!). I can’t wait until you get it back in stock at your store.
I make at least 2 smoothies every day. They are a great afternoon snack for kids. The vita-mix is so expensive though, maybe some day after I get my food processor.
Sounds like a great weekend. I wanna come
I love that bowl! It’s so cute
The SIAB today sounds so good… I’ve never thought about cleaning my blender like that before! I’ll definitely try it next time
Have a great day today!

That sounds like an awesome weekend to me! I’m planning much of the same (minus the swimming – but that’s the part I’m most jealous about!). Have a blast Kath!
I have yet to try the SIAB but I must.
A pedicure and a haircut are in my near future
Spa weekend, if you please!
I love my Vita-Mix, too!!
Frozen yogurt is definitely something to look forward to. I think we might go to TCBY this weekend.
Jenn
Ahh what an amazing weekend you have coming up!
Hope you enjoy your lunch a little more than your breakfast (texture and tea-wise)
, and you can always count on dinner, right?
Happy Friday Kath!!!
Well a vita mix is lovely but a nice low budget option is the magic bullet. Much easier to clean than a blender for sure!
I do the same thing with my blender haha. Nice and sudsy.
Oh! I love that self cleaning idea! Is it not dishwasher safe?
It’s not recommended b/c it’s plastic
LOVELY weekend planned – esp the frozen yogurt!
have a great afternoon
Thank you so much for the Vitamix review!
I am trying to figure out whether Blendtec’s or Vitamixes are rated better. Anyone know? I’ve heard good things about both…
I want a Vita-Mix SO BADLY!!! Especially after that tip on how to clean them..
I love that you double up different types of tea–I’ve never thought of doing that!
Your weekend sounds fantastic! I just might copy some of your ideas:-).
I’ve been double-dosing my tea a lot more as of late. My generic green tea doesn’t taste so good on its own, so I mix it in with another tea (today it was Sugar Cookie Sleigh Ride!) so I can get the health benefits of the green tea and the flavor of the other!
I just have a cheap blender, but I do end up taking the lid off to mix all the ingredients. The plunger would be a benefit. Maybe someday.
I love how dark your SIAB is today! It looks gorgeous!
You HAVE to see this shirt I got from whole foods….it says I [HEART] KALE but instead of a “heart” graphic is a picture of kale..omg!! lol Also, totally in love with my vitamix. I had to get up at 5am for a 6am meeting and it was 34*…..terrrrrible
What brand?
Whoa I’ve never thought about that way to clean a blender! That’s so cool!
I wish I had a weekend of activities like yours – instead I will be at the library studying!
I would love love love a vita-mix. My husband and I are on a smoothie kick lately and I think our blender is on its way out…
I have never tried kale in a smoothie – just spinach. I need to try that!
Here’s hoping you warmed up!
I always love my smoothies thick enough to eat with a spoon, but I’ve never had them in a bowl before. I use my magic bullet about twice daily for smoothie and blending purposes. Not the best, but it was cheap!
Oh my, we used a vitamix to make lobster bisque in culinary school last night and MAN that thing is powerful! Apparently (news to me) lobster bisque includes the shell of the lobster and the Vitamix did an awesome job at cutting that thing to bits! We did strain before serving but yikes! Powerful stuff
.
My family loves the VitaMix – they are awesome!
Are you going to Tasty Yo!? I still haven’t been there!
Yophoria (Sp?) Tasty-yo is awesome though!
i’ve heard nothing but amazing things about the vita mix! my co-blogger has one (she even tried to become their spokesperson!) but i just can’t afford it right now. on my list, though!
Woah, I wonder if any normal blenders can do that cleaning thing. The vitamix might be worth the price just for that feature. My blender is such a pain to take apart and put back together every time I use it!
I think it’s something about the way the VM blades whirl. Others wouldn’t push the liquid against the walls enough?
It sounds like such a great weekend you have planned!!!
I want a vita mix! I love that plunger, soooo convenient!
I would love a vitamix…why don’t all blenders come with a plunger? Genius!
Your SIAB looks so delish!
My vita mix is probably the coolest, most useful small appliance I’ve ever had. The plunger is the key to reaaaaally thick smoothies/ protein shakes. You can make so many things in there, not just shakes.
Happy Friday! Your weekend sounds like it’ll be fun and relaxing!
Oh I want a Vita Mix so bad and I know I would use it tons but I just can’t fork over the cash! I was wondering though, the two things you praised it for, the plunger and the cleaning, don’t you think you could do that with a regular blender too? Like, stop blending and smoosh (technical term there) everything down with a spoon, and do the same cleaning trick when done? Or…maybe I’m just convincing myself that my “blender de crapola” is really a Vita Mix in disguise
I think you COULD do anything in a regular blender, but it would take longer and would probably not work as well. So like I said, it’s more of a convenience thing – if you make smoothies all the time.
That is a genius cleaning tip!
My Kitchen Aid 5 Speed suggested that method of cleaning in the manual. Also wanted to note, they suggested putting the ice and hard objects at the bottom so it blends way easier (I never need a plunger…well not that I have one to use…)
I’ve put frozen yogurt on my to do list for this weekend also.
My favorite song! YEAH!!!!
Oh SIABs, that most delicious meal of spring and summer and…the whole rest of the year. Yum. I just consumed one. And the vitamix sounds spectacular; you’re making me drool…
What about those of us who would love to make the investment in a vitamix but can’t get them in our own country? SOB!
… freeze your banana–(for texture)? And maybe a gluggier protein (so less liquid)… cottage cheese or yogurt or tofu-block–grassy texture being a little depressing in the morning, and all…
