Red Rubber Bowl

My mom’s favorite song!!

Let’s all sing to the red rubber [cali] bowl

IMG_1637 (640x427)

I was craving a SIAB this morning!

IMG_1639 (640x427)

Sadly I didn’t get the texture right on this one. I was going for a thick sorbet and ended up with a grainy, grassy texture 🙁 It was still tasty though.

IMG_1635 (640x427)

The Vita-Mix

  • 1/2 banana
  • 1/2 packet Vega Berry Blend
  • 3/4 cup vanilla hemp milk
  • 1 cup frozen mixed berries
  • 4 big kale leaves

Toppings:

  • Bob’s Red Mill Granola
  • Bob’s Red Mill muesli
  • Nuttzo PF Chia Fluff!!

IMG_1638 (640x427)

I LOVE the Vita-mix for so many reasons. If you are a frequent smoothie maker, I would definitely recommend the investment (if you rarely make smoothies, stick with a simple standard blender for those few occasions).

Reason #1 why I love it: the plunger. You know when you have liquid whirring on the bottom and solids filled to the brim that won’t blend? Just insert the plunger and push it all down and blend easily.

IMG_1625 (640x427)

Reason #2 why I love it: cleaning. Just rinse out your smoothie residue, add a drop of dish soap and fill halfway with water. Blend on high and the suds clean the blender sponge-free! (No pricking hands on blades!)

IMG_1627 (640x427) IMG_1626 (640x427)

Tea party for one:

IMG_1631 (640x427)

I used the Tiger Chocomint and Vanilla Cream. Still a bit of a disappointment 🙁

IMG_1633 (640x427)

But nice and strong with the doubled up bags!

IMG_1632 (640x427)

IMG_1628 (640x427)

Going to crank the heat in my car! Brrr!

We have a nice weekend ahead. I’m planning on frozen yogurt, swimming, yoga, a pedicure and reading!!

You’ve totally sold that mixer to me – I want one!!
Can you taste the kale in your smoothies? I have loads of kale at the moment, and I WANT to blend it, but I’m slightly afraid….

I love my vitamix! Can I ask you a question about yours? When it starts blending does the container shift towards the right when the motor catches it? Just wondering if that’s normal or if I need to send it in for a repair.

    Thanks!

I’ve been double-dosing my tea a lot more as of late. My generic green tea doesn’t taste so good on its own, so I mix it in with another tea (today it was Sugar Cookie Sleigh Ride!) so I can get the health benefits of the green tea and the flavor of the other!

Oh my, we used a vitamix to make lobster bisque in culinary school last night and MAN that thing is powerful! Apparently (news to me) lobster bisque includes the shell of the lobster and the Vitamix did an awesome job at cutting that thing to bits! We did strain before serving but yikes! Powerful stuff :).

My vita mix is probably the coolest, most useful small appliance I’ve ever had. The plunger is the key to reaaaaally thick smoothies/ protein shakes. You can make so many things in there, not just shakes.

Oh I want a Vita Mix so bad and I know I would use it tons but I just can’t fork over the cash! I was wondering though, the two things you praised it for, the plunger and the cleaning, don’t you think you could do that with a regular blender too? Like, stop blending and smoosh (technical term there) everything down with a spoon, and do the same cleaning trick when done? Or…maybe I’m just convincing myself that my “blender de crapola” is really a Vita Mix in disguise 🙂

I think you COULD do anything in a regular blender, but it would take longer and would probably not work as well. So like I said, it’s more of a convenience thing – if you make smoothies all the time.
