Rabbit

March 1, 2012

See any signs of spring at your house? Did you say “Rabbit” to celebrate March 1?

It’s so cool how we went from chilly, dry San Diego to freezing cold Chicago to a humid spring Cville in one day. Karen and I created a new word for our love of Cville: Jefferson [so creative, right?!].

I’ve said it in my head 3 times already!

I’m feeling totally jet lagged this morning. I don’t think I ever really adjusted to West Coast time either. My body would love a little stability, and it was confused if it was ready for breakfast or not this morning.

IMG_6863Blog

I made a smoothie with greek yogurt (about a cup), banana, oats and coconut water since we had no milk. Worked pretty well! Plus more banana, Uncle Sam Strawberry, chia seeds and Sunbutter on top.

Note to self: polish silver!

My stomach grew an inch last night. I woke up in the middle of the night on my side and my stomach was all pushed out and I felt like I was 6 months pregnant! This morning my pooch is harder – a sign something from within is pushing out. 14 weeks tomorrow!

Hope you have an awesome morning!

Is saying “Rabbit” on March 1 good luck or a tradition? I’ve never heard of that… I must be out of the loop! Your breakfast looks delicious; I need to try making a smoothie using Greek yogurt.

I think so!

Fun! I just read the wiki link you posted below – I’m going to try to remember to do this; I kind of love quirky traditions/ superstitions like that :) I just whispered “rabbit rabbit” to myself in the library, haha.

4 Mom March 1, 2012 at 10:47 am

I think it has to be the first word you speak, which is why it’s hard to do (to remember when you first wake up). But keep saying it anyway. You never know. Rabbit! Rabbit!

5 Stephanie @ Legally Blinde March 1, 2012 at 11:57 am

Yeah, my library whispering probably didn’t count :) I wonder if setting a reminder on my phone would be cheating, haha.

We always said “rabbit rabbit” on the first of every month (not just March) and you had to say it before your feet touched the floor in the morning. Not sure where all that came from, but that’s what my family thought it was!

7 Sana March 1, 2012 at 9:47 am

Pretty soon you and Karen will be speaking in code :)

I’ve never heard of saying “Rabbit” for 1st day of March? What’s the story behind that?

Yup, it’s still freezing here in SoCal..rainy and cold :(

Yeah, here’s more about it! Apparently i was supposed to say it twice!?

Yes, we’ve always said Rabbit Rabbit…. and I have a friend who actually says it THREE times! :-) I’m excited to read that the effect is supposed to be stronger in one’s birthday month! (although I said it a few minutes after waking up and starting talking this morning… so maybe I blew it)

Happy almost 14 weeks Kath! And I’m so happy to hear that someone else says ‘rabbit’ at the beginning of the month too! I’m not superstitious but I used to have a teacher who said that you’re supposed to say “white rabbits” before anything else on the first day of each month for good luck. I definitely don’t remember to do it every month, but I think of it (usually after I’ve said about a billion other things… but apparently it doesn’t ‘work’ if it’s not the first word!) Nevertheless, happy March 1st!

I forgot about the “rabbit” thing at the beginning of a new month. Ha!

That’s crazy you can feel your stomach growing. My best friend said the weirdest thing was feeling the baby move in her – like a little alien. :)

I’ve never heard about saying “rabbit.” Does it count if you just said it and you’ve been awake for 5 hours?

Wait until your last trimester! You’ll think your belly can’t get any bigger but it does!!

I thought of you this morning when I was making my oats. I made whipped banana oatmeal on the stovetop and my husband said “these are the best oats I’ve ever had. I usually have trouble finishing them but not these”. I guess I need to be less lazy and stop using the microwave, they really arent hard on the stovetop!

Wow, almost 14 weeks! That’s crazy! But I know what you mean about time change being a pain… I can hardly adjust to Spring ahead/fall back let along coast to coast changes… blah – I guess that’s what I get for being such a creature of habit.

Rabbit…now that is something new! In a Winter Wonderland here in Southern Ontario. I ran in big fluffy snowflakes…the ground was so spongy soft to run on and the trees were all speckled white…just beautiful! I think I had my best run all year! Breakfast looks yummy…off to a great start as always! As March has came in like a ‘lion’ I am hoping it holds true that it will go out like a ‘lamb’!

Reply

51 KathEats March 1, 2012 at 2:17 pm

It’s so exciting to feel you body start changing. Just wait til you feel him/her moving around in there. Can’t even begin to try and explain it, most amazing thing ever and I miss it so much.

My sister taught me to say rabbit 3 times as the first thing out of your mouth on the first of each month. I never remember. It was easy when we lived together cause she would scream it at me across the house and I would mumble it back to her.

57 Ellie@Fit for the Soul March 1, 2012 at 1:11 pm

Whoaa I didn’t know a stomach with a baby could grow THAT fast overnight! That’s pretty cool In my opinion :) Hehe, when my sis was pregnant, my lil nephew would always “stretch” and try to do “exercises” because of the way he pushed out his feet one direction all the time. :P

Thank you so much Kath! Hope you have an amazing day as well :)

Reply

66 KathEats March 1, 2012 at 2:18 pm

I don’t have a recommendation per meal – I think that would get a bit tedious to count! Instead just make sure you’re having something that contains protein with each meal. Like for breakfast: milk, yogurt, eggs; Lunch: beans, eggs, deli meat, tofu, fish; Snacks: dairy, nuts; Dinners: meats, fish, tofu, beans

Oh my goodness! So excited to see the Rabbit on your site.
My boyfriend and I tend to set our alarms for the middle of the night to say Rabbit.
The rule I know for the say is that you can actually stay it on the 1st day of EVERY month before your “feet hit the floor” in the morning. And actually, we say “Rabbit Rabbit”…I’ve been doing it since childhood.
