NERD KERF

October 5, 2009

I spent the morning with Jing Project making Google videos. Who knew screencasting was free and easy!? Thanks so much to those who pointed this out. I’ve got a 5 Episode series on the way – and more ideas of other things I could do!

NERD KERF Episode I: Gmail

Including Themes, Labs and Multiple Inboxes (a little repetitive from yesterday). If you want to watch it bigger, here’s the URL: NERD KERF – Gmail I.

[Hope this embed works... If not. Click the link above. And if the video stops working, it means you guys crashed the bandwidth for Screencast.com. Sorry about that too if it happens!]

I’m feeling a little under the weather today. Kind of sneezy and headachy. Hope I’m not sick! I decided to take this opportunity to drink some Amazing GrassJenna swears by it as an immune and energy booster. I mixed the chocolate powder with about half a cup of skim milk and water.

For lunch I made a chicken + hummus sandwich. Sabra makes the BEST sandwich spread! On Dakota bread with ~2 tbsp sabra, shaved chicken breast, mustard and spinach -

IMG_4408 (640x427)

Plus a mangled pear

I had to eat quickly because I am on the way to Winthrop early to get a TB test for my Dietetic Internship

Then class.

Then gardening and some form of TBD workout.

See y’all for dinner.

I agree – Sabra’s hummus is the BEST. My fav is the supremely spicy variety. I just found a new way to love it: mix together some spicy Sabra’s, a laughing cow cheese wedge, warm brown rice & beans. Mmm…

I neeeed to try hummus. I can’t find it in stores so I’ve decided I’m going to make it at home. :)

Hope you aren’t catching anything! Either way, it’s always good to load up on the nutrients to support your immune system. Have a wonderful afternoon!

Jessica…can you try nonfat Greek yogurt? Or low fat sour cream might work too…good luck! I need mayo substitutes too since my BF detests it and swears he can taste even the tiniest amount in anything (which I think is BS but, whatever!)

I started feeling icky last week and did my favorite remedy: 1000mg Vitamin C every hour for 24 hours (when you’re awake). It has worked like a charm for me three straight years!

Jessica, here’s a vegan recipe for mayo.

1/2 cup of soy milk
1/4 teaspoon mustard
2 teaspoons of lemon juice
Dash of salt
1/4 teaspoon of paprika
6 teaspoons of vegetable oil

Combine the soy milk, mustard, lemon juice, salt, and paprika in a blender. Use a low setting and do not over mix. Slowly add the oil, one drop at a time. This will cause the mixture to thicken. Once all the ingredients have been added, mix until a smooth texture is achieved. As with regular mayonnaise, keep it refrigerated.
Makes about 3/4 cup.

I’m eating a mangled pear right now too. Weird.

Nice video. Much easier to see this time around, except that the fullscreen shot was really a close up of the top left quadrant of the screen. Not sure if that happened to everyone but it happened to me.

I look forward to your tasks video as well as the calendar because while I take full advantage of gmail and many of its labs, those two features are still quirky to me. I need help!

I used to be a HUGE fan of Sabra … I’m Israeli and mass-marketed hummus makes me happy in ways I can’t really explain, but then one day I made my own hummus and now I can never bring myself to buy a tub of the S-brand anymore. Ahhhhhh I love love LOVE hummus. You should try DIY just once! Honestly, hummus is the first thing I ever “cooked” living on my own.

Wow this comment is totally random.

Sheila,
GORG!

rhodeygirl,
I know :( I don’t know why it did that. Investigating!!

emmy,
Do you mean forwarding your other emails to your Gmail address? If so, you have to do that at the other emails settings. Or do you mean responding with multiple email addresses?

Courtney,
Just to make sure we don’t have it!?

Ilana,
I have made my own and it is not as creamy + delicious as Sabras!! If you have a perfect recipe, I’d love to make it.

haya,
I think it depends on your blog host and how the software manages comments :( I didn’t do anything special to have it do it this way (except be a Gmail user)

Allison,
Thanks for your comment!!

Chiming in…Here is our recipe for hummus and its always a hit!

http://livewell360.com/2009/07/roasted-red-pepper-hummus/

We’ve made all kinds of different versions: chipotle, jalapeno, plain… just swap out the ingredients, using lime instead of lemon for a more Mexican-y flavor, and various different spices.

And… we’ve made homemade, soft, WARM, whole wheat tortillas to go with it: http://livewell360.com/2009/07/whole-wheat-pita-bread/

It’s not forwarding or sending mail using a different address. It says you are supposed to have your mail from other addresses rerouted to gmail. And it works. But once that happened I couldn’t figure out how to make them go into my other inboxes.

emmy,
Send me an email. I’m still not sure what you’re talking about. “Have your mail rerouted to gmail” means forwarding it from that email to Gmail. You would do that in the settings of the email you want rerouted – not in gmail. You should be able to create a filter from that account to sort them, but Gmail might not be able to distinguish between the forwarded emails and your regular ones automatically.
